They believe 6 of the 9 spots in the lineup aren't fit to start for most teams - including Rendon who Law believes is done.  No mention at all was made of the pitching.

On most days the 6/7 spots will be occupied by two of Drury/Walsh/Urshela. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Last two spots C & SS - Rengifo is terrific vs LHP, Fletcher can be as well. Will concede it’s a weakness vs RHP. Catcher is a wild card - O’Hoppe projects to be fantastic, Stassi has been good before his terrible 2022.
This over the top negativity feels like willful ignorance

I really don't think there's any chance whatsoever Ohtani signs a contract extension this offseason.  There's just no reason to.

Huh? If he could have the Halos guarantee him $50M+ over 8-12 years right now, it would eliminate the risk of a second TJS (or any major arm injury) hurting his FA market. Also, he could see value in ending all of the “where would he sign” controversy. Those are two obvious reasons to consider extending this offseason imo

    2) Pitching staff is important to improving the pitching and Ohtani sets the tone for work ethic
    3) Billy gets credit for bringing in several key pitchers
    4) Anderson is a professional and a competitor
    5) Pitching and Defense are the staples

Would be great to see Tyler Anderson’s strike throwing rub off on Sandoval

the Angels as currently constructed, appear to be an 85 win team. When the trade deadline comes, they'll be too good to sell off pieces, not good enough to emerge as a clear buyer. So I think they'll do little of consequence.

If this scenario transpires it’s possible, if not likely, that one of Neto/Soto/Jackson/Paris becomes clearly MLB ready by the deadline, which would enable trading either Rengifo (who could also improve his value with continued improvement) or Urshela to improve elsewhere. Also, if the pitching staff remains relatively healthy, we have a lot of talent in AA/AAA that could be moved to improve the club.

Being on track for 85 wins by July would be awesome imo

Only Shohei really knows, but, I think it's probably more likely he'll stay. Under Arte, the Angels have stood by Shohei through long term injuries and rehab, and allowed him to develop his two-way skills the way he wanted to, allowing him far more leeway than most players are afforded. They played a huge part in supporting him to become the superstar that he is today and with Arte being the hands-on guy that he seems to be I'm sure they must have developed a personal relationship. With Ohtani's character in mind, I can see him feeling a sense of loyalty to the Angels for all that, maybe a sense of unfinished business too, so, I think with a fair offer on the table (and maybe a break clause or two) Ohtani will stay long before free agency becomes a complete media frenzy distraction.

    Reasonably optimistic points

I'm thinking it gets done prior to he leaves Angels camp to play for team Japan in the WBC. I'm guessing he doesn't want that question to be the focus point and a distraction all through camp in Feb/March ahead of opening day.

Considering the humility Shohei exudes I agree that he would likely prefer to avoid being center of attention at camp (more so during WBC) due to his contract status. He already gets plenty of attention for being the unicorn out there

Lol, yes...  Again, you have as much say in determining payroll as she does.  She could personally be signing the checks and still not have any say in the final MLB payroll.

It says she’s in charge of planning & budgeting. Seems highly influential

This is a fun / alternative way to look at prospects, purely driven by 2022 results. Paints our guys in a much better light than the traditional rankings that lean more on scouting evaluations. That said, it looks like Quero outranked O’Hoppe due to his larger relative age gap, and a much better BABIP? (Not sure if all contributing stats are equally weighted.. if so seems strange to include BABIP). Also, neither is getting (extra) credit for their superb 2022 performances coming from the Catcher position.
For Paris, he gets no knocks here for his defensive concerns. Also, seems to get more credit for a big age gap than he probably deserves, since he played majority of the year at A+.

A lot of teams also play the "service time" game, and you certainly can't blame them based on the huge value swing if you don't.  For someone like O'Hoppe, who hasn't even played in AAA yet, you can certainly understand it if they kept him down there for at least a few months.

Keep in mind the new top 3 rookie of the year finish/draft pick incentive to have your top prospects start the year with the big club. I don’t think O’Hoppe will be headed to SLC

I think it is very foolish to assume Taylor Ward is going to hit like he did last year.

He certainly is the starter and he earned it.

But this looks and smells like a major letdown waiting to happen for the folks assuming he is going to be elite offensively.

Guys who suddenly mash at his age are extremely rare, and when it does happen it typically is short lived.

I am as hopeful as any fan of course, but I am not yet convinced he is the lock that many seem to believe he is.

I will enjoy watching Taylor Ward & Brandon Drury show us their late career breakout seasons were legit & sustainable similar to Josh Donaldson & Jose Bautista.. Perry referred to these guys in relation to the Drury signing.

Interesting that they could go to arbitration with the two guys they just traded for.  I imagine that would be a rough way to start off your tenure with a new team - have your new employer give all the reasons why you aren't as good as what you are financially asking for, lol.

With both Renfroe & Gio entering their contract years, getting “snubbed” in arbitration could put a big chip on their shoulders, working hard to prove their worth to secure big bags next year. I’d be more concerned with going thru arbitration with guys that have come up thru this org

I have no idea if Adell is pissed or not (nor do I care). As far as anyone knows, he took the Angel logo or whatever he did off his IG because he's not on the team tight now... as in he's a whatever our AAA team is called, not an Angel.

    That said...

Maybe 2 years ago I watched Adell his a big home run in the late innings. When he did so, he pimped it hard.

I commented on here that he needs to relax that shit. He needs to keep his head down and mouth shut until he's actually good. And a few people here rolled their eyes at me in the comments.

    And here we are...

Don't announce you've arrived if you're still on the freeway, so to speak...

He's a very talented athlete, and I hope for the teams sake (and his) that he figures it out and ends up being a star baseball player.

But he also needs to accept reality. That as of now all the talent in the world so far hasn't translated to success. I have no idea what needs to happen for him to make it, and I hope he and his people figure it out and he crushes.

But until then, don't pimp a home run when you suck, on both sides of the ball, 90 percent of the rest of the time.

This is the 10-8 post being referred to

Pretty sure what he is getting at is everyone year we think the team will be better than it is. That goes for the 2023 team too. I think they've improved sure but they have also proven they can't stay healthy year after year after year etc so this year is likely to be the same. The only outlier is that Arte will HOPEFULLY not be the owner come April so that just might change things right there. The staff he has hired clearly should not be employed by a major league club. That's my hope for 2023. A new owner would be amazing.

They’ve “proven” they can’t stay healthy.. Tell me, which Angels player has a chronic injury that you’re concerned is gonna recur?

some people just can’t see past the narrative
