In that case it almost makes more sense to move Trout to LF to keep him more durable with Moniak in CF.
-
Trade Moniak while value is high? Where does he have a spot on this roster to play everyday? Nowhere sadly.

This bullpen is getting taxed on a near nightly basis because starting pitching is a huge issue. Replace Canning/Silseth with a good starter that will pitch deeper into games. Only chance for this team to contend is by fixing the rotation.

With a runner on 3rd and less than 2 out, the hitter you would want to see the most at the plate in this lineup is Rendon IMO.

Slashing .378/.440/.756 good for second in MLB with a 1.196 OPS. It's early but the Angels may have given up a really good player here. It's another case of a young player struggling to reach any potential with the Angels but finding success after leaving. If they trade Adell I can see the same thing happening.

Trout, Ohtani, and... Machado?
VladdyforHOF replied to VladdyforHOF's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
The Pujols comparisons are so cringe. Pujols was already showing decline in his last season with the Cards before he signed here. To get a superstar FA it usually requires eating the backend of the contract as the standard now seems to be 10 year contracts for early 30's FAs. So many players now make $30M AAV compared to when Machado signed that deal with the Padres. Maybe he's looking for mostly higher AAV. $250M/7 years? -
Machado announced he will opt out of his contract with the Padres after the season. Imagine if the Angels sign him next offseason because we'll still need a SS because they didn't sign one this offseason. Or Rendon could shift to 2B/1B and Machado could play 3B. Perhaps Ohtani would be more likely to stay if they sign Machado? Does Arte, since he decided to retain ownership of the team, wanna make a real big splash or stay mediocre? If Ohtani leaves regardless then signing Machado would at least ease that pain. What do you guys think? Go all in for Manny Machado?

Which Angel player should have been better?

I'm actually surprised no one has said Justin Upton yet. Lol. Another guy huge contract guy that never had a big moment with this team. -

Jared Walsh. Where did rookie season September Walsh go? Anthony Rendon. Does anyone get excited that something big might happen when he steps into the box? He doesn't give me that MVP hitter scare at all. I'm thinking in regards to the current roster so there's still time for these guys. -
Jacob deGrom signs with the Rangers (5 years, $185 million)
VladdyforHOF replied to mmc's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Astros are going to be the Astros again. M's are young and scary. Jacob DeGrom is now in the AL West. Fuck. Time for the Angels to counter this. We NEED to sign a SS. -
Yeah agreed. I get that it's not an easy thing to trade your superstar. But 2023 is the last chance and that's an insane risk. Sometimes you see teams hold on to that highly coveted to-be FA in their contract year and they very well know that player might walk away. But they let it happen because they're going "all in" to win the chip. Sorry, this roster as currently constructed - even with the new additions that I am very fond of don't get me wrong - is not a contender. And I don't know why anyone else would feel it's a contender. So it doesn't make sense to go "all-in" with Ohtani and make it a "win for Ohtani" year. "

Yeah this. And yet I get the sense that most fans are in favor of not trading him so they can roll the dice and they think this team is going to come back completely different next year and just crush everyone. I don't understand wanting to take that risk. We're lucky we ever got our hands on Ohtani to begin with, now let's just be smart about this thing and get some value back. Houston just got Jose Abreu. We are still a long ways away.
