  1. Yeah, Santiago frustrates me. I'd rather see him in long/short relief, spot starter.
  2. That was a bullshit call on Pujols. MLB tracker showed it well inside and low. F'n ump.

  4. Matt LaChappa during his playing days. The San Diego Padres made a series of stunning offseason acquisitions, including trades for Matt Kemp, Craig Kimbrel, Wil Myers and Justin Upton and the free-agent signing of starter James Shields. But one under-the-radar minor-league contract might be the team’s best move of all. At the O.C. Register, Steve Bisheff shares the sad story of Matt LaChappa, a former Padres prospect from the Barona Indian Reservation, just east of San Diego. LaChappa suffered a heart attack while warming up in the bullpen for a start in Class A Rancho Cucumonga in 1996 and is now confined to a wheelchair, but the Padres have renewed his basic minor league contract every season, in part so he can have access to health insurance. 6. Shoemaker notched a quality start last night. I'll take that all day long.
  7. Lineups to be posted when they're available. Go Angels!
  8. Angels (1-1) vs. Mariners (1-1) Wednesday, 4/8/2015 Matt Shoemaker, RHP 0-0, -.-- ERA Shoemaker came out of nowhere to finish second in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2014, his age-27 season. Undrafted out of Eastern Michigan University, Shoemaker went 16-4 with a 3.04 ERA and a 5.17 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Hisashi Iwakuma, RHP 0-0, -.-- ERA The 2013 All-Star would be the No. 1 starter on some staffs (he's 37-19, 2.97 ERA in 77 career starts), but he'll open third for Seattle this year. The 33-year-old is 6-1, 2.75 ERA in 10 outings against the Angels.
  9. I can totally vouch for Safeco Field's choice of beer and amazing food. 1. Safeco FieldSeattle Mariners Cask-conditioned ales, Firkin Fridays... no, these aren’t the selling points for some new high-minded craft beer bar, it’s just how they roll at Safeco, where the dizzying array of seriously impressive eating and drinking options reflects the strengths and tastes of the local market as a whole as well as any stadium out there. Standout local chef (and big-time Mariners fan) Ethan Stowell is seriously involved in the food program (since 2010), which is why every year they’re rolling out fresh offerings like Dungeness crab sandwiches on sourdough with lemon aioli or Pacific seafood gumbo. You can get craft cocktails made with small-batch spirits from the folks at local mixology staple Rob Roy. There’s legit sushi (RIP Ichiroll) and sake. Grass-fed burgers come topped with Tillamook cheddar. Honestly it kind of feels like every buzzy food trend from recent years is somehow represented, but in a way that somehow manages to not feel completely out of place. There are probably some sticks in the mud that bristle at the notion of this kind of highfalutin fare at the ballpark, but these are the same types who likely once decried nachos as “ethnic food.” This is how progress is made.
  10. I love reading through these GDT's the next morning after a win. It was a great game to be at last night. I love close, pitching duels.
  11. Ha, good point. Definitely anyone serving in the military as well. I have nothing but respect for anyone who serves our country.
  12. Don't get hung up over lineups. I'm almost certain Cron will work his way up to #4 soon but Scioscia will always give the nod to a veteran in that spot initially. Freese hit the ball VERY well during spring and lose weight/gained muscle. He looks good. Give the dude a shot.
  13. To be fair, Calhoun and Trout are not leadoff/#2 hitters either. Bottom line is victories and we won with those two guys at top and Pujols at #3 with getting little to NOTHING at of #4 last season.
  14. Why? He had a good second half of 2014 and a great spring. I'm fine with it. Cron would be my choice, but Freese is more proven.
  15. Pretty expensive. Especially for opening week. My 3B field level tix tonight are 80 bucks a pop.
  16. Ha. He got excepted to a nice college and has been studying his ass off. He also started writing (initially, not sure if anymore) for another Blog. Wish him the best.
