  1. Are you suggesting that Ebel and Scioscia were communicating with one another during the game?
  2. The only real value for the City of Anaheim to retain the Angels is if the city name is in it's team name (Anaheim Angels). Losing money on the stadium lease is easier to swallow if they can justify that loss as an advertising expense. As it currently stands, there is limited exposure for the City of Anaheim to earn a profit from the Angels playing within city limits. The amount of city taxes made on restaurants, hotels and other amenities affected by the baseball team are limited, at best. Most people that attend the games come right in off the freeway (usually after the game starts) and get right back onto the same freeway (before the game is over) to leave. Head to a local bar near the stadium on game night and unless the players themselves are there, you might not even know the Angels were in town. The cash cow for the city of Anaheim is Disney, period. Which is why Disney was able to get such a sweetheart deal on the stadium lease (as Eric Notti said). The City of Anaheim was willing to give in to certain demands to Disney that would not make sense to a third party. Arte is that third party. These negotiations becoming contentious are almost a direct result of Arte's decision to change the team name, thus reducing the value of the team to the city of Anaheim and giving them less incentive to keep the team. The Angels just don't have the kind of leverage they once had. I guarantee you one thing, though. If Arte Moreno were to offer to return to the name "Anaheim Angels" exclusively, the Angels themselves could get almost everything they wanted in the stadium lease and be clear through 2057. But Arte's not going to do that, we all know that.
  3. Just checked in on the Turning Point, found this...
  4. The announcers need to hold on to as many fans as they can because the team is doing it's best to get everyone to turn the channel.
  5. It's catchup on the DVR night tonight.
  6. Charles Grodin hasn't done anything relevant since the 80's when he was already looking old, so what did you expect? Besides, the most shocking thing about last night was not Charles, it was the Tickling Donkey Punch. I mean, HOLY CRAP! Who saw that one coming!?!
  7. That's it, **** Frieri. I'm done. Closers are not paid to light a match to W's. Frieri seems to stack the wood, douse it in gasoline, dump a ton of road flairs and roman candles on the pile, then spark up a flame thrower on the W's. **** this guy. Every time he takes the mound in an Angels uniform, he's wiping his unshowered, stinky, sweaty, shit-ridden, cheese-laden, stained ass with the rest of the Angels team. I trust this guy to hold on to a lead (let alone in a tie game) less than I would trust the cast of The Sopranos to pass by a buffet and leave the table unmolested. I'd rather have that Make-A-Wish Foundation batkid from San Francisco take the mound in a closer role more than Frieri.
  8. Howie is a good #2/#7/#9 hitter, not so much #3-#6 though. It's a matter of placement in the lineup that's at issue here. He's much more effective with some power behind him to drive him in, or being the protection for the heart of the order, not the heart of the order itself. That's all.
  9. Yeah, RISP is a really silly stat, until the LOB total starts to look like a football score.
  10. You're correct. Only Hamilton, Iannetta, Conger and Cron are ahead of him, so, around 18% of the team is better than him with RISP. I stand corrected.
  11. The Angels are REALLY hoping that AP goes deep 4 times tonight, or K's, because otherwise why on earth would they be putting Howie into the highest probability for RISP spot in the lineup?
  12. The ESPN Highlight of last night's game was not biased at all in favor of the Yankees. First they pointed out that the pitch looked like it was low (without the pitch-trax, mind you), then they showed the BB that drove in the first run of the inning followed by, and I quote "The Angels win, 4 to 1" with no reference at all of the epicness of the Yankees bullpen meltdown, suggesting that the 4 to 1 final was a achieved by a normal hit to the outfield and not two more BB's. Nope, no homerism there at all. ETA: The addition of the link to the video mentioned above. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/10889636/new-york-yankees-manager-joe-girardi-ejected-arguing
  13. They are going to change the system completely. This video is probably the best, quick, explanation about Net Neutrality that I've seen. It leaves out a lot of technical jargon and skims over a lot of the nuance, but that's for brevity. Take the 5 minutes it takes to watch, and think about how AngelsWin.com might have to compete with the likes of MLB's official website, just for comparison.
  14. I've gone from "Do I REALLY need/want to go through firing up Photoshop? I mean is it worth the time and the hassle?" to "Oh, let me check on that" on a whim. The amount of time I'm saving throughout the day on stuff is ridiculous. Seriously, in less than a week, I've probably already saved 3 hours of wait time for my computer from booting up to loading programs to processing, this is clearly the best investment I've made to my computer in forever.
  15. So, is it retroactive to his date of suspension so that the Yankees can just avoid having to run him out there against the Angels line up? Is that what's going on?
  16. Every time I see this thread title, I keep thinking I'm going to open it to find this.
  17. Shakespearian Translation: Forsooth, Thou hast seen what mine eyes has, tis fill mine heart with joyfulness. When thou are in a state such as this, thy touch of a brother's skin, in such a way as to properly convey the ecstasy that dwelleth within me, leads onward upon the field of combat. Thy warrior, drunk with a rage of victory, reaches out to embrace mine limb. Thank thee, once again, for the dogs of war hath been been unleashed, and a moment such as this shall be remembered long after, handed down from father to son, throughout generations immemorial. Thus an epoch I hath wrought and rendered to thee, my brothers.
  18. Ha! I've never heard of You've Got Mail except for years ago when AOL used it as their tagline.
  19. Did Scioscia not learn ANYTHING from Willie Beaman's pre-game ritual?
  20. My reaction to hitting the Save button for the above gif.
  21. Was the bases loaded, nobody out shut-down by the Weav the turning point of the season? It remains to be seen, but early indicators say yes.
  22. A few months back I had to hit Fry's to pick up an emergency router. It was shrinkwrapped and it appeared the box was still factory sealed. When I got it home and opened it up, some of the bags were just stuffed back into the box empty and the router and the literature were simply placed back in the box. It had clearly been opened previously, but was sold as a "new" item. That was less than 3 months ago, not 3 years ago, so the "reputation" is still based on fact as recently as February.
