  1. Not Angels ST related but random ST venting post ahead. Tried to watch the Dodgers ST game working from home and just had to turn it off. ESPN is trying to make a record of how many times they say "Ohtani" as that appears to be all they care about with the Dodgers. He's not even playing and they've probably mentioned him hundreds of times through just the first 3 innings. The Dodgers will be absolutely unwatchable on any national broadcast this year. Not even the joy of the 1st ST game can make me overlook it, as I've been watching NCAA baseball since last Friday anyway.
  2. Small world! I'm off I-25 and 120th so a little ways away from Westminster High but that's where I reside. Yeah the Angels and Broncos to me are both eerie with how they are stuck in huge ruts with a playoff drought that's about equal in length for both teams. As bleak as things may seem for the Angels I wouldn't be surprised if they make the playoffs before the Broncos do. But yes I'm thankful the Avs give us something to look forward to the last 7 or 8 years. They aren't perfect this year by any means but they should hopefully make a nice playoff run.
  3. That's what I keep hearing but as you can probably tell by my screen name, I'm bitter and didn't watch
  4. I was born in 1986 so my catalog of memories isn't as extensive as the rest of you fine folks but I really enjoyed the early 2000's. The Angels championship team of course speaks for itself and that's when I really got into baseball. I have very fond memories of 2014 as well between the Angels division title, flying out to Anaheim and getting to witness the 19 inning marathon game against the Red Sox in person. And yes I stayed for the whole thing and I'll definitely never forget it. I actually redid the scorebook for that game last night as something to do. That was a really wild game. 2014 was also the last season before Manfred took over so that was a good year for me as a baseball fan in that regard too. Not like Selig was a saint but with Selig at least I felt like the game year by year was going to be the same on the field. I'm worried what changes are ahead the rest of Manfred's tenure.
  5. I mean good for them. But here's the exact quote right here. Of course he was classy but it sounds like it was heavy on the team at times. I myself wasn't making the comparison I was just repeating what he said. Hopefully it takes the weight off them this year if it indeed was on the team.
  6. I agree. I thought I saw somewhere today where Sandoval compared it to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if the players feel a little relieved and more relaxed with not being under the Ohtani microscope anymore. I for one am ready to get this going and see how they do.
  7. Good to see spring training optimism as always. Sounds like the players may be enjoying less media attention and the start of a new beginning. I didn't even think of how going back to the 5 man rotation could be a benefit for this team until Reid Detmers talked about it in an interview after Ohtani left. I'm not honestly expecting much this season in terms of wins and losses but am looking forward to the season. Guess we'll see how it goes.
  8. I'm a fan of this move. He was pretty reliable for the Angels until he was put on waivers after the deadline. Not bad.
  9. Same here man. I have friends that don't know shit about baseball but they know enough that they heard Ohtani and Trout have been wasted. I have one friend who is a great friend to me but is a casual fan to the core and is an Ohtani fanboy. He bought an Ohtani Japan jersey but he hates the Dodgers. I've told him a hundred times since Saturday Ohtani is gone from my life as an Angels fan and any texts about Ohtani going forward will be met with a brick wall of silence. I'm done. While I'm looking forward to no more "wasted" comments, something tells me on the other hand 2024 is going to be a long year for us fans that just want to move on. Thank goodness for this board this upcoming summer. May not be pretty.
  10. I enjoyed the podcast as well. I think you guys just did a great job of getting it out but also remaining pretty cool about it. It will undoubtedly suck seeing his highlights in Dodger blue but also it's probably in the best interests of the team to move on. Hopefully better days ahead.
  11. For a DH with 2 Tommy Johns under his belt lol. I wish him the best but glad the Angels are not part of that. I look forward to the Dodgers 1st round exit more than ever from here on out lol.
  12. I thought I was one of the few who thought this way going into the offseason honestly but I'm kind of relieved if this is what it looks like. The Angels can now use that money to spread around on other needs and we don't have to hear how Ohtani hit 2 homeruns, struck out 10 and stole a base and the Angels still lost from the national media anymore. Now we can just lose 11-0 and not hear about it haha jk (or am I). Personally as an Angels fan I'm ready to move on and start addressing other needs.
  13. I added Detmers in my post after. That's fair, I forgot about Marsh being his pick and not Dipoto's. Part of my post was seriously asking if there was anyone besides Canning, Thaiss and Detmers that has contributed to the major league club since his first draft.
  14. I'll add Reid Detmers to this list as his draft picks that have had a positive (but hopefully still improving) effect with the big league club. I forgot Detmers was his last 1st round pick for a minute.
  15. Just as long as he never comes near the Angels again. Why some Angels fans thought this guy was a good GM will always baffle me. Was it the move to acquire Danny Espinosa to be the starting 2B one year? Signing Luis Valbuena so Sosh could play him every day over a young David Fletcher? Having a bullpen fell of DFA waiver wires like in 2019 and 2020? We had Hansel Robles and David Hernandez pitching late in games. Besides bringing Ohtani here I can't think of one good thing that happened under his tenure. 7 years after his first draft in Anaheim, the only somewhat successful major leaguers I can think of from his drafts are Griffin Canning and Matt Thaiss. If I'm missing any someone can please enlighten me but just a reminder Adell, Kyren Paris and Jordyn Adams were all high draft picks of his. Kyren Paris and Adams look like total shit. This guy was and is a horrendous GM imo. Say what you want about Perry, he tried and failed at the deadline and that's a fair criticism. But at least I can say his draft picks like Schanuel, Sam Bachman (if he can stay healthy) and Neto look like they could have potential great careers. Plus trading for O'Hoppe he's set up some good young players in the system. I don't want this guy anywhere near Anaheim again sorry.
  16. Wow can't believe I'm saying this but wtg Angels! That has to be the biggest gut punch for the M's to lose to a bad team like that, loading the bases with no out in the 9th and then tying it up in the 10th. If the Angels sweep or take 2 of 3 to put the noose tighter around their necks that would work for me. Also must be awesome for them to know their stud pitcher doesn't want the ball past 90 pitches haha. Fuck Seattle. That is all and goodnight.
  17. I want this game/series only because it would be hilarious if the Angels put the Mariners behind the 8 ball after that 4 game series pretty much ended the Angels season in early August. Oh and does anyone know if George "90 pitches is my max" Kirby is pitching this series?
  18. I just turned it for the first time tonight to see Moniak tie the game and all I've got to say is it is a delight to see the outfield seats and a lot of seats behind home plate empty. Send a message fans!
  19. Obviously Perry was desperate to get Shohei to the playoffs and the players didn't respond-or responded in a distrastrious fashion- however you want to see it. Is this setting up for a rebuild going forward in 2024? Could Trout finally be traded while he has some value so we don't have the "Angels have Trout and Ohtani and can't win" albatross finally off our necks? I for one as a fan would not mind not having that weight anymore. Assuming Ohtani isn't an Angel in a few months, just sets up a lot of questions on where the Angels are heading.
  20. I gave Perry credit for going for it back in July and I stand by that. However, I'm not sure I've ever seen a team in history fall on their face after going for it like this team did. Just when I think every low has been achieved, they come back with another low. So who's everyone's NL/2nd favorite team?
  21. I know we're playing for very little at this point but I have to admit if they pound on the Mets- offseason champions 4 years in a row by the media, Billy Eppler's current team and the media's favorite landing spot for Ohtani- it would be incredibly satisfying.
