I would argue that nothing needs to change. The market will adjust. Pitchers that get outs on weak contract and can go 7 innings will become the new fad and we’ll eventually see a resurgence of the Maddux type of pitcher. George Kirby comes to mind, though he has decent velocity readings. I don’t think anyone will be thriving at 90 mph, but eventually, 97 for 5 innings and surgery every other year will be replaced with 93-94 for six innings and a lengthy career.

I would bet against that. I thought for years that eventually we would see an end to the shift being prevalent because hitters would start to try to utilize that part of the field again.

Sample size is tiny but his average exit velocity has been way down.  it's actually gone up with every game but he's still sitting at 85.7.  I know he missed time in ST so maybe he's a bit behind but he's toast if he can't get it above 87 at minimum.  Aaron Hicks is at 84.3..  Only reason I'm bringing it up is the guy he's blocking (Adell), is sporting an average exit velocity of 96.5.

They really need to give Adell at bats while he's seeing the ball and making contact.  Plus it's become pretty clear he's become an asset on the bases.

Adell should be in the starting lineup at least 2 out of 3 games either in the OF or DH. This is pretty much the year to decide whether Adell is worth keeping or cutting bait on. The fact he's hitting the ball hard should be even more of a reason to find ways to keep him in the lineup.

I'm trying to find an avenue where both get playing time. I am a big fan of Adell and think he can break out this year but Washington has to have some roll in that taking place. Playing Hicks and Sano shuts the door on both of those guys and that is going to be costly for the Angels if they can't get them playing towards a future of Trout, Ward, Moniak and Adell and then after 2025 letting Ward walk and moving up someone like Rada in 2026 which can move Trout to left and DH.

I'm with you on this. I was fine with not signing someone like JD Martinez since keeping that DH spot allows Moniak and Adell to get consistent ABs. IMO getting a good long look at them this season benefits the team long term rather than giving them to Hicks who's gone at the end of the year anyway.
