  1. I still dont know why they didn't just allow Richards to either sink or swim this season in the rotation rather than going with Blanton.  He is turning 25 in a few days... there's not going to be much longer to keep talking about his "potential" and there's nothing left to work on unless he works on it up here.

Sucks that a guy with his stuff can't even become an average mid-rotation type guy.

  2. Both. The fact that he made his reputation on prospect for MLB players deals against us, and since joining us hasn't done the type of deal once. Although I wouldn't trade a Gatorade cooler for most of the players not named weaver or trout.

We're a win-now team with a lot of undesirable contracts.  Some people are really dim on this board it seems.  It's like infantile whining children that complain about being bored without putting in effort to actually think of something to do.

How has Dipoto had a chance to deal good to elite, cost-controlled MLB players for top pitching prospects?  Give me even one scenario in his time here where this could have happened.  He made "MLB player for prospect deals" with the Dbacks because he was working for an entirely different organization and he had the luxury of being able to build for the future with little current expectations while giving up good MLB talent.  You even said yourself you "wouldn't trade a gatorade cooler" for any of our players, yet JD is supposed to find a way to get high upside starting pitching?  Get a grip.

This organization is going to need 5+ years to retool the farm and replenish our system, at least.

  3. They will catch fire enough to prevent selling off pieces in July and end up with 85 wins. We will then lose our 2014 1st round pick signing some 30+ starting pitcher.

Use. Rinse. Wash. Repeat no playoff and bad farm system cycle.

This is why I've thought for a while now that it would be better to just tank this season, since our playoff odds are about 3% at this point.  A protected pick in 2014 would definitely be a step in the right direction.  I don't really see us "catching fire" though with this pitching staff.  Our rotation right now is Wilson-Blanton-Vargas-Enright-Williams..... a winning streak of more than 2-3 games is pretty much impossible.

  4. Trout slumped to start the season and he's still putting up an .851 OPS and is top 5 in WAR. He's doing very good still.

Seriously.  The kid is 21 and people expect him to be the runaway MVP every year.  He has been a a top 5 AL player this season.  People are just spoiled because of his historic play in 2012.

Pitchers have made adjustments and are throwing him more junk, and he's coming around fine.  His May numbers are elite.  Yet all we ever see is "Trout is slow now, he's just lazy and comfortable.  He doesn't have the same passion as last season." Give it a rest already.

  5. Yeah that's all we need, another $25M a year guy in his mid thirties.  We're a lot further away than one good SP to make any worthwhile headway.  And why would the Phillies just give him away?  They're one of the most profitiable franchises in baseball and aren't exactly hurting for money.

  6. In a sick kind of way in the back of my mind, I almost hope that we have a season that's so bad it is legendary.  If we're not going to make the playoffs anyways, I wouldn't mind getting a top 5 draft pick for once.

  7. At least I have Ducks playoff games!

I still watch bits and pieces of pretty much every Angels game (mostly to watch Trout/Trumbo AB's), but its not something I really look forward to or get excited about anymore.  I envy the superfans that can continuously get beat in the head with shitty baseball and still maintain a high level of interest and excitement about it.  It's like getting amped about eating a dry turd sandwhich for lunch every day.  I can think of about a million better things to do than watch uninspired, lazy and fundamentally bad baseball for three hours a night.

The Angels will always be my team, but to me they're like family; I might be stuck with them, but that doesn't mean I have to like them all the time.
