In my opinion, this team has overachieved just to get to 1 game under .500 (Now 3 but the point remains). We have/had 2 starters who's ERA is north of 7.00 and one who is now gone. One of the teams main bats and an important piece of the puzzle is on the IL and may be for the rest of the season, who knows. Kole Calhoun, for the first 2 months of the season couldn't hit his ass with both hands, nor could Cozart, and for the most part our aging 1st baseman/DH also. It was without Ohtani until last month, who is still finding his swing.
With all that being said, this team found guys like Fletcher, LaStella, Goodwin, Buttrey, and some lucky breaks here and there to put them in position to be, at least, in the discussion for a 2nd Wild Card spot.
I don't wear rose colored glasses, and I'm the same fan as all of you. I'm frustrated by the lack of consistency and some of the horrific FA signing's. What could have been if these guys produced at near 50% of their intended capability? BUT......they haven't, and yet there may be a chance. I'm not optimistic that Upton is going to be the savior that some think he might but he has the potential to be an upgrade offensively. I'm hoping some of the pitching that returns to the team performs to their past history, which will free up management to make some moves. These are all hypothetical scenario's but who knows?
I'm still praying we get to .500
