  1. Fowler is a better coach than the actual coaches? Fowler is a better mentor than Upton and Trout? Forgive my detailed questions, but I just want to get this meaningless fluff narrative right.
  2. Seeing #55 on his jersey seems like such an obvious indication that he should not be on the field. #5 is not a retired Dodger number. Fact: The 2021 version of Albert Pujols did not command enough respect for him to get #5 with the Dodgers. Either Seager laughed at him, or Pujols subconsciously knew not to even ask. Either way, what does this tell you Albert?
  3. In terms of having any relevance whatsoever to the Angels present and future, I would be more interested in Mark Prior hitting 83mph on the gun in a private workout than Fowler doing well with his knee. This guy will never see the field again in an Angel uniform.
  4. I loved the push bunt attempt. Pujols can’t move. Loved the idea.
  5. I am becoming a big believer in a huge upside for Sandoval. The ceiling for him is way higher than I ever previously gave him credit for.
  6. I am a freedom freak. I can’t think in any other way. For me, personal freedom is more important that everything else combined. With my personal viewpoints, I can think of few things worse than slavery. I would rather be murdered than enslaved, regardless of the living conditions.
  7. They are not forced and they, generally speaking, are paid plenty to not live below the poverty line since they banked a signing bonus.
  8. Is two guys competing with each other for the starting catching job a human caused adversity?
  9. I totally get this view. I have kids too. But the older I get, the more I know there is a whole lot of value in young adults learning how to adjust to lost opportunities, facing what feels unfair, and figuring out how to handle situations that are not equitable. They will need these skills and you don’t just have them out of thin air. Life is a whole lot more enjoyable when you have the skills to deal with adversity and you stop wasting time and energy feeling personally wronged by lost opportunities, things that seem unfair, and unequal outcomes.
  10. No. I did not say it was not as bad as people say. You just made that up out of thin air. It is irritating to explain clear thought to reactionaries (often because it doesn’t work). Slavery was as bad as everyone says it was because there is pretty much nothing worse than the idea of humans owning other humans. Don’t make shit up. It’s lame.
  11. You are splitting hairs, and yet I would still disagree. I would say it is pretty accurate to view them as both students and interns. They are training for a job they don’t have yet, one they don’t know if they will ever actually get. Not ever medical student becomes a doctor. Not every Google intern gets a real Google full time job. And not every minor leaguer becomes a major leaguer.
  12. You have to be insane to make this ridiculous comment. It is clear in plain English that my post cites slavery as being horrible as they had no freedom and aside from the lack of freedom (which is already abuse) many were abused in other ways. The horror of slavery was not centered on the quality of food. Look if you can’t agree that slavery was a stain on human history primarily because humans should not own other humans and abuse them under the guise of ownership, then we probably don’t have anywhere to go in the conversation.
  13. So you were spending a few years getting ready for your career. Minor leaguers are doing the same thing.
  14. Correct. That’s why the issue of slavery for clear thinking people is about lack of freedom and abuse, not that they lacked shelter and food. Remember this all began with the outrage that minor leaguers slept on twin mattresses, had roommates, and ate Taco Bell. Those are stupid complaints.
  15. They do. Remember when they got drafted and they negotiated how much they would accept to sign and become a minor leaguer?
  16. The delusion that these guys are victims and suffering continues. . . Minor league baseball players spend basically all day at the ballpark. This is exactly why they have no need for anything more than sharing an apartment with other minor leaguers. And again all the people upset over their income/living situation I guess are going to keep deliberately ignoring that lots of these guys got signing bonuses that they could choose to spend on better housing. Most choose to save that money and choose the roommate situation. That is their decision and my opinion is it is a good decision so they can save more for the future.
  17. I just think it is a little funny that baseball history is pretty full of examples of players basically defensively “retiring to 1B” but the idea of Justin Upton doing that late in his career is laughed at, as if this is some wild concept that has never happened before. Heck it’s not a terrible bet that Mike Trout ends up playing 1B.
  18. You don’t get the basic point. If Adell’s offense was worthy of being in a lineup and he was brutal in the outfield, a team would probably end up playing him at 1B. Upton isn’t a great OF, and the Angels had some young OF looking like they were getting closer to being mlb ready, so the discussion was maybe Upton should move to 1B. Nobody is saying anybody can play RF if they put in the work. Cecil Fielder could play a passable 1B, but not RF. An old Albert Pujols could get by at 1B, not RF. . . Upton could likely play 1B. (obviously the Angels have Walsh now so it makes little sense now to attempt to convert Upton to 1B now)
  19. The guys drafted in respectable spots get handsome signing bonuses making them “rich” compared to 99.9% of other people their age. And the ones drafted late who don’t get big bonuses are long shots to make it. They are not really good investments to give them more than they get. They choose to pursue it anyway, and it’s just kind of peculiar to think they are entitled to more than just having the shot to make it. This whole thing is a fake problem. Nobody is starving or freezing. It isn’t suffering. It is getting by like anybody trying to make their way. Fake problem.
