  1. The man knows the bible inside and out, credit where credit's due. He's keenly aware he couldn't enter the church for the photo op due to Deuteronomy 23:1. No man whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.
  2. Crazy that he wrote These Days while a student at Sunny Hills. I went in the 90's and there was an English teacher still around who had him as a student.
  3. Though I thought the Pujols deal was bad business, as a fan I was ecstatic. Same with Hamilton. I figured with those two guys, we just needed it to come together for a season or two and we would easily make a deep playoff run, we'd end up with two bad contracts later but might be worth it. Shit was I wrong. I thought the Greinke trade was absolutely stupid.
  4. R0 of 2 does mean on average, each infected person will infect 2 more. What you are missing is the timing. It takes several days for the virus to build up in the body to the point where you are infectious, then several days to transmit to these other people etc. It doesn't double every day, I think in California the doubling rate was around 4 days.
  5. I lived in NH 20-25 years ago and Catamount was the local go-to. Guess technically it was in Vermont, but close in White River Junction. Back when there weren't a ton of microbrews around, especially in the middle of nowhere New England. Surprised they went tits up because they were legit, still have nostalgia for their amber, perfect.
  6. The PPP was worded so poorly that really the only condition to apply was having less than 500 employees. From their perspective, at worst it is a business loan with an insanely low 1% rate, at a time when capital is hard to come by, and at best it is deemed legitimate payroll expenses and is "forgiven" by the government. I don't think they envisioned when they applied that they'd be stealing it from real small business owners and the PR ramifications of it, but the banks stepped up big time for their largest clients and made sure they got paid first. 'murica.
  7. Have always respected the Buss family but gotta say, fuck them: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29104444/lakers-got-money-loan-program-returned-it
  8. You need to read the article before making a snap judgement. It's definitely less egregious than the Astro's, though I do smell some bullshit here. Cora is the ring leader in Houston but has no knowledge in Boston, no way. Why was the sign-stealer's office moved near the dugout, that was just random? But basically the whole Red Sox organization threw this one analyst under the bus. I'd expect him to come out to the press if he felt others were involved, but the article says it as his job to steal the signs (legally, not in real time), and he took it upon himself to update his info with the live feed.
  9. I don't care for the guilt by association. I'm about as liberal you can be but I think CNN is a shit stain on America. I'd agree if it said they were "DNC Media."
  10. I don't know, I think any news that comes out of China like this is terrifying. Mistakes happen, sure. But this is a country where infant milk producers were poisoning babies for a year and the biggest concern of the Chinese government was to kill any negative publicity around the Olympics. Any info that leaks out is just the tip of the iceberg.
  11. Yeah, Sweden is sure showing up the rest of the world.
  12. Those "Italians" in NY/NJ immigrated many generations ago. There is such a big community there that they have kept their identity, but I doubt they are traveling to the "old country" very often like Michael Corleone. Probably just common tourist destination for Americans, Chinese, etc.
  13. Ridiculous to pin anything around coronavirus on Trump. I think he acted pretty much in line and in time with all the western heads of state. But he's an egomaniacal buffoon who can't hold his tongue and probably the least capable leader we could have in such a crisis, so he is an easy target. The whole federal government is absolutely broken. Federal oversight was supposed to proactively protect us from foreign terrorists (nope), financial collapse due to greedy and amoral banks (nope), and now global fucking pandemics (nope). At this rate you can bet that Skynet will become a reality and we'll be fighting AI and robots in 10 years.
  14. Sure this will end well: https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/06/asia/china-coronavirus-tourist-warning-intl-hnk/index.html
  15. It's a rolling 7 day average after the first day with at least 3 deaths -- probably shouldn't even be plotted for another week or so.
  16. I don't know why they even release the number of known cases, it's completely misleading to compare country to country or even state by state. No one knows how the aggregate number compares to the number of actual infected. Anyway, deaths are a pretty firm measurement, give or take, and scary that we don't look like we even close to a plateau yet:
  17. So I guess the "high floor" that Dipoto and Servais raved about was AA, amazing scouting.
  18. I definitely miss playing online poker. I got into the math and strategy etc and read up a lot and looked up a lot of stuff on two plus two, got decent but definitely a rookie. My bank roll was constantly grind away for a while, turn 100 into 1000 or whatever, then back down to 50 in a night drinking or on tilt. Rinse and repeat. Probably don't have the mentality for the grind, especially since I was playing far below what I could afford so the winnings were meaningless. The low stakes tables get boring after a while and I never wanted to invest more since I was just doing it for fun. Started out on sit-n-go's but the cash games were more fun. I pretty much just played PLO for the last year they were still running online and that was super fun but the variance can be brutal. I'll jump back on if/when it is legalized.
  19. Last week I felt like I had a very mild cold, eyes were burning a bit, slight sore throat, but what really stood out was for 3 or 4 days I often felt out of breath. Normally I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it but who knows.
  20. Seems measures are working in California, let's hope it continues: https://www.ft.com/coronavirus-latest
  21. Evidently the US was the global pandemic version of Baldoquin: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/03/how-will-coronavirus-end/608719/ Rudderless, blindsided, lethargic, and uncoordinated, America has mishandled the COVID-19 crisis to a substantially worse degree than what every health expert I’ve spoken with had feared. “Much worse,” said Ron Klain, who coordinated the U.S. response to the West African Ebola outbreak in 2014. “Beyond any expectations we had,” said Lauren Sauer, who works on disaster preparedness at Johns Hopkins Medicine. “As an American, I’m horrified,” said Seth Berkley, who heads Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. “The U.S. may end up with the worst outbreak in the industrialized world.”
