In episode 27 Victor Rojas rejoins Chuck and Geoff to discuss Shohei Ohtani's departure, the front office's mistakes in terms of not trading the unicorn ahead of the trade deadline and not adding legit names to both the coaching staff and front office, and what moves make the most sense next. The guys shift gears and then share their Christmas traditions to wrap up #27.
But if Shohei didn't want to be traded, doesn't that send a message to the club that he wanted to stay long-term?

Thanks for listening/watching guys.
True story. Yesterday was freaking crazy.
First, the Shohei Ohtani news....
Then 30 minutes later, Geoff and I recorded a podcast. During the podcast I was getting tornado warnings on my phone.
As soon as the recording ended, the power went out here. i went outside to get the dog in and heard tornado sirens in the distance, the clouds turned green and a hole opened up in the sky. I got everyone in my basement and we were safe, but we heard that 16 different tornadoes touched down in my surrounding area destroying churches, homes, buildings and establishments.
I couldn't upload the podcast until the power came back on a few hours after. Just wild. Here's some pictures.
Glad all is well.

Thanks guys! I love the upbeat message. Players come and go but the team goes on.

Ohtani got the most money and the best opportunity to win. He would have been an idiot to turn that down.
fans get caught up in the emotional side of it all. That man, made the best decision he could for himself, his legacy and his future family. You can’t judge him for that. He gave it all he had as an Angel and it didn’t work out. That’s ok. Hope he wins another mvp and the dodgers get swept in the 1st round.
I disagree. I don't think he would be an idiot. It's a choice. I don't fault him for it but if he got less money for a more comfortable spot, I'd think that was okay too.

I am liking the possibilities now that Ohtani is gone. The team is more flexible at dh to rest guys, yet keep their bat in the lineup. The available payroll should be able to sign a couple of starters and a closer. Much needed. Trust me that agents will notice the available payroll surplus. Wash and Goins ability to tighten the defense. Shanuel will be project #1. Which is why i like the White deal. gives us a late inning defensive replacement at first. We will have that 2nd round compensation pick in July. We should still have ample payroll to add at the trade deadline if needed. Go gettum Perry.
I wanted him back but there are a lot of upsides to him leaving. Continue to build the team. Personally, I just think a bit of health and upgrade to pitching will get us to the playoffs.

I know a lot of us are pretty disappointed he signed with the last team we would have wanted. But I'm an Angel fan for life! Also fuck the dodgers!
Actually, I'm much happier with the Dodgers than if he would have signed within the division. If he had, I would think he was malicious.

The beginning of healing is just KNOWING that the Angels will not lose forever. No one can predict when the turnaround will happen, but it will happen. We're not the A's.

I'm sorry he's gone and congratulate the Dodgers for getting him. Time for plan B and get the guys who want to be here in the playoffs. You will be missed Shohei but I'm glad I don't have your jersey.

The Angels need many more good players. Blake Snell is a very good player - but will prevent the Angels from getting other good players.
I don't think he'll prevent us from getting other good players.

Spotrac has a $150M projection as the roster sits today. If you think the Angels get Snell for what Nola got or a bit more, that's $26M say, and Ohtani costs $45M That puts them at $221M. They wont have much left to upgrade other positions.
What other upgrades do you think we need and how much would they cost?

I get the feeling Arte is going to go all in this winter. Didn’t work out well the first time but this could be like the Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson winter meetings.
I agree. And also going all in gets Ohtani more interested in staying. Is it possible that Ohtani is waiting on what the Angels will do?
-
For all those who are saying Tim Anderson, don't we have enough infielders? Do you think he's needed?

My bets would be Dogs, Phillies and other (Astros). Wherever he goes, he wants to win. Dogs obviously. Phillies are close. Astros, no matter how much you say are going to be bad, have been in the playoffs as much as the Angels have been out. I was also going to add the Padres, but the ownership issues might prevent it.
I think he's coming back and if he leaves I can't see him going to an AL West rival. I don't think he'll do that to the Angels. That would be a slap in the face. We know he's getting paid wherever he goes but I don't see what Houston (pretty much just won), Texas (who just won) and Seattle (who has never won) has over us.

What is so taxing about playing CF? It's one thing to move Trout if he's not effective in CF, but again - what is taxing about playing CF? How many plays does he make a game on average?
It's not so much the plays but the running to the plays, even to those the other outfielders make.

It’s HOT STOVE SZN and the guys are back to talk about what’s going on with the Angels!
The team needs a new Manager. Who will they go with? A veteran candidate like Buck Showalter or Ron Washington, a blast from the Halo past like Torii Hunter, Darrin Erstad, Benji Gill or Gary Disarcina, or someone completely different?
Ohtani is officially a free agent … will the Angels be able to resign him? If they do (or if they don’t) what other players should the Angels look to go after to round out their roster?
Victor, Chuck and Geoff talk about this and a lot more on Episode 24 of the AngelsWin Podcast!Good show guys! Actually this is one of the funnier shows! I loved Geoff's Angels Win remark! I was crying!

when my wife and i were first married we tried to see a lot of the best picture nominees for the oscars. we rented The Accidental Tourist (late 80s) about a travel writer and his adventures. It had a ton of oscar buzz and was nominated in several categories. it was, hands down, the most boring movie we had ever seen. dry doesn't begin to cover it. uninteresting characters in uninteresting places doing uninteresting things. it sucked beyond normal sucking.
Ha! I liked Prada, Rachel Got Married and The Accidental Tourist. Figure, people.

I don't know if I've ever replied to this but there was a Prince I almost walked out on. I don't know if it was Under the Cherry Moon which was atrocious. I can't remember the title of the worst baseball movie possible. I think it was called Night Game. Roy Scheider was a detective and the serial killer was only killing people when the team was at home and at night.
-
I haven't gone through the entire thread but is there speculation who he may choose as his coaches? Older? Younger? A protege, perhaps, who can take over?
-
Why is this "his last chance?' Sounds a bit negative. I understand that he's been hyped but he may been called up too soon. I hope he figures things out.

This was a good show but it definitely had a "humbug Scrooge" feel. Unfortunately, this is the reality of the club.
