I've wondered why he's been passed over this year. Seems as though he was doing fine when he was briefly up last month, and had good defense.

I actually wish they'd refrain from dumping out the water cooler, just because of the drought. The contents of the Body Armour cooler certainly soak the player enough. But it's their game and their celebration, let them have fun the way they want.

If that's true, that's so ****ing idiotic. I would think any player would know that throwing a full water bottle at your teammate could a) hurt him and b ) be seen as a sign of hostility. Obviously someone in that dugout didn't get that, which is bad enough. And if DiSarcina was behind it? A coach?! That's beyond stupidity.

As someone else mentioned Heaney was supposed to be MLB ready, but he's struggling in AAA. Plus, as another person mentioned, they were supposedly counting on Hamilton to keep the lineup strong without Kendrick. IMHO it was silly to assume that given Hamilton's lack of production, but still. LAA lost that trade.

This isn't one entity's doing; everyone has a hand in it. Dipoto has made some horrible trades --Kendrick for Heaney is a debacle thus far, and given Hamilton's production in 2013 and 2014, I'm not sure why anyone would have counted on him. However Dipoto has also made some really good ones, such as trading Frieri for Grilli and bringing Giovatella, Perez and Tropeano on board. Santiago is finding his stride, And as for Skaggs? Well, the TJ gods can hit anyone and there's no crystal ball with that. Dipoto didn't bring on an injured player; it was just bad luck. And by all accounts, Skaggs is extremely motivated to get back to work, so hopefully he will be a great addition to the starting rotation in 2016. And it seems that Dipoto was trying to perhaps trying to insure against starting pitcher problems (Weaver's decline, Wilson potentially having ongoing issues, etc.) and develop the next generation by bringing in people like Tropeano, Newcomb and Heaney. Could some money have better been spent on an established starter? Hindsight's 20/20. And the players? Who the hell knows. I'm not seeing a lack of motivation; I'm seeing something that's not quite clicking and implosions of players who were good last year. Overall, I'd pin more of the problems on Scioscia, though. Scioscia continues to make bad decisions about lineups; keeps pitchers in when they should get the hook; and hangs on with poorly performing players way too long. Last year he kept playing Frieri and Ibanez; this year it's Joyce.

The last out in the game was Colin Cowgill getting caught stealing...when the tying run for the game was at the plate and the Mariners' pitcher was struggling. Jury's out on whether Cowgill took off on his own (doubtful), whether he had the green light (why) or whether Scioscia just threw him under the bus (my vote).

Red Sox actually have four uniforms right now...Yanks only have two but who wants to be like the Yankees? I like the idea of incorporating the navy into a red jersey with accents.

Not next to what other catchers are hitting thus far this season. And when you've got another catcher who seems as though they might be capable of hitting much higher than that, and the offense is struggling, it makes sense to switch.

I agree that Ianetta's struggles have everything to do with this - the other options would have been to put Ianetta on the DL (and I'm actually a little surprised they didn't) or DFA Ianetta (and they probably were not going to do that to a team veteran a month into the season). However, Butera's got a .190 ERA right now and hasn't really been a defensive wizard, AND he's the newbie so he didn't have proven past success with the Angels to look at, as Ianetta does...so he really hasn't been doing much to cement his spot on the team. Even if Ianetta had been batting .300, with Perez doing so well in SLC, it might have just been a matter of time before this happened.

My original comment was LOL, well under the Devils (Devil Rays at the time!) he was suspended two years, the Angels didn't do that...Charlie should get his teams straight. Since I obviously have to break this joke down, since I said "The Angels didn't do that" I clearly knew he was referencing the Angels with the "Devils" remark. My comment implied that the Angels didn't treat him the way the real "Devils" had, and that perhaps Charlie should watch what he was saying when he tried to be clever with his comments and giving teams different names, since Hammy actually had played for a team called the Devils, under whom he was actually suspended. I can't believe I'm having to explain a stupid one line comment here or that you think *I'm* the one who missed something. Seriously, people. This thread *has* gone full-throttle stupid. I'm out.

I don't mind the current designs, but your mockups are nice. Good work. They've actually used the white lettering on other colors, from what I've seen in the team store. I just wish they'd get a fourth jersey. Seems as though a lot of teams now have four jerseys, and the Angels just have three. Fourth color would have to be blue, I guess.

There's no agenda. But any organization needs positive, gritty veterans who can teach the newbies and be strong leaders, and Weaver fits that description. The only reality here is that he can't stay in the rotation longterm with his current output and everyone seems to agree there.

I think this is a likely scenario, minus the detour to the D-backs or Padres. Something tells me with Weaver that when he's done, he's done; he's not going to try to eke out a little more time with another team. I can totally see the Angels FO immediately trying to grab him for some sort of coaching or supportive role and working out a way for him to finish out his contract -- and keep going -- in that capacity. On the sunny optimistic side of the coin...any chance he could learn to throw a knuckleball? That's kept other pitchers going, and he might be good at it.

ITA with this and what Stradling said - he seems as though he's the sort of pitcher who is acutely aware of what he's doing out there, and has a lot of pride. It's a lot easier for me to imagine him retiring and returning to the Angels in a support or coaching role than it is to imagine that he will be content to struggle along for the remainder of his contract when he knows he's not getting the job done. Having said that, it's hard to watch him out there right now. I'd like to think he might be able to sort things out but it's not necessarily going to happen.
