Nice. Figured he wouldn't be a part of the deal, good to have confirmation though.
Maybe Stamets will be in the deal now...
-
Strike that Jose Rondon speculation on #Angels trade. Turns out he was promoted to double-A Arkansas. Good for him.
-
-
This too. Maybe they lock up Kendrick to another extension for 3 years or so.
Even if they don't, they still have him through next year, plus Yarbrough and Green. Lindsey (or Yarbrough, or Green...) is expendable.
-
What's funny about this is that I bet the Padre fans (assuming there are any?) will probably complain about not getting enough back for Street if it's just Lindsey.
-
To take the place of Lindsay
They don't play the same position, though.
-
I'd hope so
I'm not so sure. Street has a somewhat reasonable contract (team option of $7 million for next year), and I think we probably value Lindsey and Rondon more than their "real" value, simply because the system doesn't have any impact prospects.

Why couldn't these kids sign, I don't get why not drafting the first round pick effects them?
If you don't sign the first pick, you lose his slot money. For both of the other guys they didn't sign, they went over slot b/c they were counting on Aiken to sign for less than slot. When he didn't, their house of cards collapsed. I guess in theory, both of the others could have re-negotiated for a lot less...
-
At least we aren't Astros fans. Final minute. No news. The board would explode.
And it's for 3 draft picks too.
Yikes. They didn't get it done. Aiken wouldn't sign, so the other 2 couldn't, either. That's disastrous for them.

everybody is making a mountain out of a mole hill. his agent had a tactic to guarantee him the most money possible. he wasn't going back to school. once the angels had signed all their other picks, then he and his agent knew exactly how much they could get. the rest is just the contractual negotiations and reviews. end of story.
No, not making a mountain out of anything, as I said. It's not a big deal. Just could have been done sooner.

I thought we read early on that his arm was so good that there was a belief he could help get leftys out at the major league level as early as this year. Am I remembering this right? I think it led to people on here worrying that they signed him to be a reliever.
Harold Reynolds said that, and it got spread around. Ric Wilson and others shot it down.
Also, responding to a post eaterfan made, I actually was talking about Newcomb delaying, not the Angels. The Angels signed all of their other top 10 picks by more than 2 weeks ago. The money available to him (assuming the Angels didn't want to go over their allotment--which clearly they didn't) wasn't going to change between that time and now.
-
It's much ado about nothing. Because of his college work load he wasn't going to pitch this year anyways, or at least not much.
That's fine. Still don't see why he wouldn't have just signed earlier then. Why not secure things and get the money rolling in?
Is it a big deal? No. Just seems pointless.
-
#Angels have reached agreement with first-round pick Sean Newcomb, a LHP from Univ. of Hartford, on a signing bonus of $2,518,400.
Slot value was $2.475, so he got an extra $43,000. Congrats...
EDIT: MLB Trade Rumors notes, "That number was the maximum amount of money the Halos could allot to Newcomb without exceeding their bonus pool."
-
Heyman reporting that Angels and Newcomb have finalized deal pending physical for about $2.5M
Soooo, basically for slot (marginally over). Really don't get the point of delaying for that long.
-
If he ends up signing for slot, then I really don't understand the point of waiting.

Anyone ever win the All-star, League and Word Series MVP's in the same season?
Nope. Jeter won All-Star and WS MVP in 2000, but no one else has even done that part of what you're asking about.
-
And, IIRC, all of these guys but Medwick are in the Hall.
If Trout can do something like that, it's pretty exalted company.
Medwick is actually in the HOF, too!
-
Anyone think Mike can win the Triple crown along with leading in runs scored? Has anyone ever done that?
Yaz did it in '67, while also leading in hits, OBP, and SLG.
Frank Robinson did it in '66, while also leading in OBP and SLG.
Mantle did it in '56, while also leading in SLG.
Ted Williams did it in '42 and '47, while also leading in BB, OBP, and SLG both years.
Joe Medwick did it in '37, while also leading in hits, 2B, and SLG.
Rogers Hornsby did in in '22 and '25, while also leading in 2B, OBP, and SLG.
Cobb did it in '09, while also leading in SB, OBP, SLG, and hits.
Nap Lajoie did it in '01, while also leading in 2B, OBP, SLG, and hits.
So, yeah, it's been done before.

Yeah I heard that. Same guy also said trout would have a great hall of fame career if he spent 20 years in ny.
That's not what he said. He was making the point that it's easier to be the face of baseball, be the most popular, etc. when you have the big stage of NY.
I really wish people would stop playing the victim.
-
Not sure I would trade either. Theyre both young and could both turn into all star caliber players. I like Crons raw power, he can go deep on any pitcher.
Navarro is 28. He's not young, and he has no trade value.
-
Heard Indians might look at newly-acquired lefty Nick Maronde as a starter. Will be evaluated later this week in Goodyear, Ariz.
-
Cowgill busted his ass to make himself invaluable as either a 4th outfielder and even a starter and some asshat reliever that couldn't find the plate takes him out. West was a 3rd baseman that couldn't hit, converted to a pitcher that can't pitch and nearly hit Trout that same inning. Thanks a lot Washington, maybe we can send Grant Green out to the mound to plunk a few of your guys in the head.
You sound a little crazy.

Trade will be announced after #Padres game is complete. Pads still open to trading Benoit, but will raise bar for what they want in return.
