  1. If that's your hope, I think you're setting yourself up for even greater disappointment, unfortunately.
  2. I think you're bringing in emotion here or being overly subjective (it happens to all of us at times). If you take a step back and look at the situation from Moreno's standpoint, this is really the only sensible business decision.
  3. I just think that's completely unrealistic, given the situation. There's no reason for Moreno to give a young manager a three-year deal when he's dumping the team--and there's no reason for a young manager to take the opportunity.
  4. I'm genuinely surprised that anyone thought that this WOULDN'T be what happened. It makes zero sense from either the Angels' side or a potential new manager's perspective to bring in someone new until the ownership situation is resolved.
  5. There aren't many contracts that they can offload, though. No one is taking Rendon's contract and Trout obviously isn't going anywhere. The only other contracts that extend beyond 2023 are Stassi and Fletcher--and I can't imagine anyone really wanting Stassi for $14.5M over the next two years. Fletcher's contract is manageable, but again my guess is that his trade value is negligible right now. Loup is owed another $9.5M ($7.5M for '23 + a $2M buyout or $7.5M in '24) and Tepera is owed $7M for '23. MAYBE you could find takers for one/both of them, with someone gambling on both of them regaining form in '23--but at this point, given all the holes in the bullpen as it is, it probably makes more sense for the Angels to just keep both of them and pray for the best. If Loup and Tepera do get dumped for minimal returns, then I think that'll be a big signal that the Angels are going really lean on the payroll next year.
  6. And you'd have to get permission from the commissioner to give him an ownership stake in the first place.
  7. Nothing, because it was an 84-MPH changeup and Irvin clearly wasn't trying to hit him?
  8. I'll be very happy if I'm wrong, but I still find it highly unlikely that there will be a significant new signing at either SS or 2B.
  9. "You don't want to miss what's coming up next: Kurt Suzuki behind the plate!" Actually, I'm totally fine if I miss that.
  10. Well, it IS true that Marsh can't be handed 1B by the Angels next year...
  11. There's not really an incentive for Benintendi to sign a short-term deal. He's 28 and coming off a solid year, heading into his first go at free agency. My guess is that he's looking for 4+ years, minimum. Jansen: whoo-boy, I don't think I'd want to touch him, even on a short-term deal. He's been playing with fire all year and the Braves fans are up in arms about him still being the closer. He had the highest % of hard-hit balls in a season in his career and his fastball isn't what it used to be (his fastball runs above average was negative this year...).
  12. Ah, right. I actually forgot about dumping his salary. So if Moreno decides to keep the payroll at this year's level, there's actually more room than I said a few posts back. (That said, I still see no reason for him NOT to cut payroll if he still controls the team in 2023).
  13. I just realized that Loup has given up 13 unearned runs in under 60 innings. That's crazy. (And, no, I don't mean he has allowed 13 inherited runs to score. He has given up 38 runs this year and only 25 are earned).
  14. I have no idea if you have real connections that would have told you something like that, but if this is remotely true, it's kind of silly. He's getting old, his family has no interest in overseeing the team, and he's already announced he's exploring a sale. If he were to pull back at this point, it would just cause more chaos and instability.
