  2. I'm honestly still a bit confused as to exactly what the strategy is. I don't actively dislike any of the moves so far, but they've mostly been mid-value and/or "raising the floor"-type moves. Those are important, of course, but I'm not sure what, if anything, they tell us about what to expect from this point forward. The offer to Contreras doesn't neatly fit into any sort of "strategy box," either. If money is no object, then I'm all for going for Correa next, even though there's virtually no way that contract will be worth it in the long run.
  3. Yeah, he really holds all the cards, unfortunately. It's a worst-case scenario for the Tigers.
  4. Baez is tricky, though. He has an opt out after next year. So if he rebounds or even improves on his pre-2022 performance, he'll likely opt out. And if he has another bad year like last year, he obviously WON'T opt out and the Angels are stuck with 4 more years at almost $100M.
  5. Got into 26 games with the Pirates in '20-'21, did absolutely nothing in limited AB (.435 OPS). Steals a good number of bases.
  6. ...though about 90% will claim they knew about him and had been hoping the Angels signed him.
  7. Unless the Angels DFA someone or make a trade in the next 37 minutes, they can't select anyone. They're maxed out on the 40-man.
  8. https://www.mlb.com/news/possible-rule-5-draft-selections-each-mlb-club AMERICAN LEAGUE WEST Angels: Jeremiah Jackson, SS (No. 13) The Angels took a pair of toolsy high school players in the top two rounds of the 2018 Draft and now both outfielder Jordyn Adams and Jackson, the second-rounder taken after Adams, are available for the Rule 5. Jackson has had trouble being consistent in terms of his offensive production, selling out for power too much at times. But there’s serious pop there, he runs well and he can play three infield positions.
  9. Rendon is no longer the highest-paid position player! Victory!
  10. Yeah, I don't know why the worst would be 15th instead of 16th, unless I'm missing something.
  11. The lottery only determines the top 6 picks. After that, it's just reverse order of record. From the link you provided: "Any team in the lottery that doesn't land one of the top six picks will pick in reverse order of standings for picks 7-18. For example, if the Brewers don't get one of the lottery picks, they will pick 18th overall."
  12. If people on a message board think the Angels would be selling high on Ward, wouldn't other teams' front offices feel that way, too, and not be willing to give up too much for him?
  13. He wants a 4th year so he can make it to the 100-inning level over the course of the deal. Admirable.
  14. Yeah, something like that would be more palatable. Like I said, he just doesn't seem like the type of guy you severely weaken the upper ranks of your prospects for. Hoerner would definitely be a good addition at the right price. He finally developed a bit of pop this year and made some improvements in his batted ball profile. If those are sustainable, then he's interesting to me, since his defense will (presumably...) still be great moving forward.
  15. Not sure I'd bother with either of those, really. I know Hoerner put up a 4+ WAR season this year, but seems like Neto has a reasonable shot of being a better player overall. You'd get three years of control on Hoerner, though he's just entering arbitration, so his salary will start jumping. Suarez has become a very usable piece the last couple years. I don't know...Hoerner just doesn't strike me as a someone you'd trade multiple top 5 prospects or a top 5 prospect and a serviceable SP for.
  16. Yeah, that went away a few years back. If you remember the Will Wilson trade, that was in the same year he was drafted, for example.
