  1. Given that he signed, probably not. Ha. I'm just saying that it's an unusual occurrence for a guy in his situation. Maybe there's a simple answer. Hopefully, we'll learn more about him soon.
  2. You say "go to school" as if he's a HS player who'll be venturing out into the college experience for the first time. He's not. He's played 3 years of college ball at two different schools.
  3. Even if he waived his no-trade clause, I have a hard time seeing any realistic scenario in which Rendon could be traded. The Angels would probably have to agree to pay 75%+ of his remaining contract and deal a couple of top prospects to get back even a marginally useful player. Think of it this way: if Rendon was on, say, the Tigers and they made it clear he was available in a trade, is there any scenario in which you'd want the Angels to get him?
  4. Again, I think people are missing the point I'm trying to make (which probably means I was too vague to begin with). I'm not at all surprised that he signed with the Angels. I'm surprised that he wasn't drafted at all, and I'm just wondering if there's some non-obvious reason he wasn't.
  5. My point is that if he was ranked as high as the low 200s by some folks, it's odd that he wasn't drafted at all. It's not like he was a HS guy who fell due to signability concerns.
  6. Interesting. I wonder if there's more to the story here?
  7. Burns is a 5th-year senior catcher. Looks like he barely played until this year. Took a ton of walks (he's probably just org filler, but interesting that even those guys seem to be falling into the on-base skills category). McGillis is another 5th-year guy. He'll be 25 in January. Strange stats this year: 31 hits, of which 14 were HR. Walks a good amount.
  8. Well, for 12 years, I went to a school called Greater Atlanta Christian School that was affiliated with the CoC, so I can't ever remember a time when I DIDN'T hear about Lipscomb.
  9. Yep, Harding was another school where several folks from my school always ended up going to every year.
  10. Yeah, I understand how the process works. Again, just surprised it's with these two guys.
  11. Admittedly, I don't know much about either one, but Wimmer wasn't ranked on pre-draft boards that I saw, and Kent was ranked as the equivalent to something around the 4th round. That's kinda what I don't really get: it's not like these two guys had major heat on them to begin with, so why go out of your way to go over slot on them?
  12. Cool. I just made it up and picked random dates.
  13. Good OBP and a nice number of steals, too. Seems like the Angels valued speed in this class. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=wallac001lan
  14. He didn't hit in AAA last year, which is why he's back at AA this year. He'll also be 26 before the start of next season. He's just a guy.
  15. I can't remember who, but someone on here recently said they "hated" Freddie Freeman. I don't know how someone could hate him. Seems like a great guy and seems personable, to genuinely enjoy playing and interacting with other players, etc. I wish there were more guys like him around.
  16. *ChristophersEn Turns 24 next month. Another huge K, high BB guy: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=christ004wil
  17. Interesting on Wimmer. Wonder what they're seeing that others apparently don't?
  18. Looks like organizational filler, based on his stats: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=pendle000cal
  19. He's been playing in indie ball (the Billings Mustangs are in the Pioneer League). Putting up big K numbers. Gives up a lot of hits, too, which is unusual for a high-K guy. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=tullar000cam
