  1. i don't know what your deal is against teachers, but i'm guessing either you had really bad experiences in school, you sucked as a student, or you're just simply trolling like a boss.

any time you want to sack up and come face a hundred 12/13 year olds, plan interesting lessons for them, and deal with all the crap they're able and willing to bring, plus their parents, give me a holler. i'll give you my classes for the day, but i doubt you'd be able to last until lunch.

what i do know is that you haven't got the first clue about what a teacher does or what a teacher has to go through. without a doubt in my mind, it would be best if just closed your ill-informed yapper about something you know so very little about.

Not knowing what a teacher goes through, I can't correctly assess what it would take to be a good or bad one. Whenever I envision myself as a Jr high or high school teacher, it always starts out wonderful (do what I want, give A's to the kids I like, D's for the rest) but quickly degrades and ends horribly with me being led off in handcuffs after having dealt my form of discipline with a chair to the back of little Jr's head, the little shit.

I can’t be a nurse dealing with rectal bleeds of an 80-year-old, or a fireman who has once again rolled up on a scene where children experience severe injuries or death from a senseless accident, or a cop constantly having to deal with the more unfriendly side of the human element daily, and possibly have to take a human life on my next eight-hour shift. For that alone, my opinion is that these certain vocations deserve at least an above average income for the services they give our society.  I could easily be a government employee (lazy bastards), with great benefits, good to great pay, every other ****ing day off, no real pressure to delivery on time. Yes, I’m jealous. I’d take that job in a minute if offered.

From the point of view of someone on the outside looking in, I'd say most teachers are paid a fair wage, a few not as near as much as they deserve (Jr high and high school), some well (elementary), and some way over paid (university professors). Admittedly, this from someone that doesn't have intimate knowledge of these professions, just an opinion on what I have experienced in my 56 years on the granite planet, and after having raised four children two now in the education system. Personally, I know a few of these folks, and I'd say they’re compensated reasonably well.

For those of you teachers who are committed to excellence and strive to differ, be different (and I believe that's most who take up the cause), my hats off to you, for you are going up against the worst, most influential teacher of them all, the TV. And now, too many of our children have unfettered access too many other media types with no boundaries. Hard to compete against an attention whore so powerful that has little or no regard for teaching what is in the best interest of our youth. Worst yet, IT has the complete attention of too many parents.

My whole hearted thanks go out to men and women like Tank, Recon Scout, and the many others on this site that do what they do to improve society, not just take from it with no appreciation.

  2. Interesting trade between the Dogs, CWS and Cinnci.

I really think the Dogs are just stockpiling for the next three years and will hit the reset button after 2018 when all their money is off the books and kershaw opts out. They wouldn't admit that publicly, but they are just hoarding as many resources as possible. I don't see them moving their chips for a player is club controlled for several years. I also don't think they will move Puig. That team could be a bit messy next year but they still have a solid group of talent.

The White Sox are one of those teams where it could all come together and they win 90 games or none of it does and they lose 90. Their offense was putrid last year. Garcia and LaRoche were just so awful. Garcia is almost as bad a Matt Joyce. So they could still use one more solid bat. Gordon would actually be a good fit for them. Their pitching staff is very good.

Time for the exodus to begin in Cinnci. I'd have thought they could get more for Frazier, but not a bad haul. They get some position players with some power and speed. If they were smart, they'd be on the horn with whatever teams are willing to sign Davis and do a salary dump. He'd actually be a nice fit in Baltimore or maybe even Houston. I can't imagine the cost of getting BP or Bruce would be all that high at this point. With the addition of Peraza, it's clear that a Phillips trade isn't far behind.

The White Sox are close to becoming my pick for the breakout team this year.
  3. Nava or Choi could get some DH at bats vs. RHers if Cron struggles.

i just want to remind everyone that of the players that weren't starting or on the team at the end of the year, the offensive production from said players was a collective of about 80 runs below the average major league baseball player. That's -80 runs accumulated over about 1550 (25% of the teams total PA) plate appearances from our bench by seasons end.

Granted, guys off the bench aren't likely to perform as an average major league player, but our collective group might now. Also, if everyone in the opening day lineup stays healthy and performs enough to keep them in there then the bench will get fewer at bats.

We essentially had two -1 WAR players playing in our lineup every single day. Imagine getting half of that back. That would be 4 wins. That's how bad our bench was last year.

That there is some awesome spin.
  4. I do not understand the Simmons trade if we were going to be ridiculously frugal in free agency.  Makes zero sense. Why not keep your top prospect if you're just assembling a team to compete for 3rd place at best.

I will be completely be on board with this statement if by March nothing else has changed. Until then, it's too soon to speculate on the state of the off season.

  5. I'm all over the whole add to the bullpen narrative but, I think a bigger case can be made for KC proving how important defense is..   Have you looked at the rates for the Angels and Royals bullpens last year.

    Team A: 8.36 K/9, 3.19 BB/9, 0.80 HR/9

    Team B: 8.42 K/9, 3.04 BB/9, 0.84 HR/9

Nearly identical right -- only the Royals allowed a Babip of .258 .vs the Angels .301.   The two team's FIPs and xFIPS are again nearly identical no more than 0.11 off...

There are a lot of different things that can be argued based on those rates -- but the one thing we do know about the Royals is they can play lights out defense.

Yes, I agree. Imo, the bullpen and a solid defense go hand in hand. Holding a lead from the seventh inning is largely a defensive move. It seems to me that a great defense goes vastly underrated by many. For me the Simmons trade overall is a net gain, only if however, we are to gain back at least what we lost in Gott, maybe more. If not, Eppler has made a half a sandwich, and the trade moves to meh.

  6. Now I'm wondering if GMs are leery of Clippard because he's had a big workload since 2010.

He's been consistently healthy, but also with some 450 innings pitched since then.

His numbers did drop some in 2015, even when going back to the NL in July.

But, can the Halos truly rely on Salas, Morin, and Bedrosian as their 3-4-5 in the pen????

    HUGE question mark

^^ Hell no, hmmm, and probably no way in hell.
