  1. I was looking through Cot's baseball contracts for MLB service and remaining option years. As I was scrolling through I noticed Sosh can opt out of his contract after 2015. He gets paid $6M in 2016 and 2017. $5 in 2018. hmmm http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/al-west/los-angeles-angels-of-anaheim/
  2. Gut feeling tells me Howie goes to Chicago. They are looking for some veteran leadership and he is a know quantity to Maddon. Jokisch would fit the profile of what we ae looking for. Would need another piece coming back to complete the deal
  3. Angels win the number goes down by one (to 4) for the winner of Seattle / Oakland and that team is in second. The looser goes down two games (to 3) in their elimination number. Angels loose, the number holds (at 5) for the winner of SEA/OAK games and the looser drops one (to 4)
  4. I am right with you DiSar. Keep him in the organization He can fill the hole Omar Vizquel left.
  5. Players with retired numbers can grant permission or not as in the case of Griffey asking Tony Perez for permission to use 24. Perez siad no. I believe the Yanks have had numbers worn post retirement, Yogi Berra's 8 being one example. We can avoid the whole discussion and just do a ring of honor instead.
  6. I am grateful for Matt's efforts this year but all I can think of during this thread is Monty Python's Life of Brian...

  8. He wore 16 in Colorado and San Diego, 20 in Oakland. Both are taken by Conger and Cron respectively. I would not be surprised if Cron picks a new number. Edit. Yahoo!'s roster has Street sporting 15. That better not happen.
  9. Will be interesting to see what the bonus is. I believe Newcomb will sign. It will be between slot and ~$2.8M (per the MLBTR article reference of Baseball America) which is the most the Angels can go without loosing next year's pick. It is a test of wills to see which end of the spectrum it ends up. Newcomb has more to loose.
  10. Newcomb (1/15) is still negotiating per Alden...http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140625&content_id=81620028&notebook_id=81649638&vkey=notebook_ana&c_id=ana Chris Ellis is leaning toward going pro but has not decided per Clarion-Ledgers Michael Bonner's Twitter post from 6/22 @MikeBBonner Bormann (19/569) is returning to UTSA for his senior season but the Angels sign his teammate Ryan Talley as an undrafted free agent. http://www.goutsa.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13100&ATCLID=209530745 Jordan Kipper (9/269) has signed and is in Orem. CJ Cron's brother and teammate of Kipper signed with the Diamondbacks. http://www.ahwatukee.com/sports/article_d3c93e4c-fbc4-11e3-9bfe-0019bb2963f4.html Kholeton Sanchez will be transfering to Texas Tech per his Twitter post from 6/26. @Kholeton Sanchez
  11. I hope Jerry told Raul, "When you are ready to hang them up, give us a call. We will have a place for you in the organization."
  12. And the 40 man roster dips to 36
  13. Basically wonder why he was putting Bedrosian in a high pressure situation and then expect Frieri to put out the fire. He expected Joe Smith to start the 10th and Morin to be the next out of the pen and stick with the relievers who were succeeding.
  14. RIP Tony. It was a joy to see you hit
  15. And exactly 30 draft picksper year from the top ten rounds have found that excitement since the slot and tax system has come into play
  16. College Seniors have no leverage. It is basically a take it or leave it offer. I am not sure about the dates but he would basically miss the rookie league season waiting to become a free agent
  17. I was missing Alex Abbott who signed $130K over. Here are the bonuses, the slot values, and differences I have so far Gatto $1,200,000 / $1,050,600 / + $149,400 Rhoades $400,000 / $436,000 / - $36,000 Jewell $250,000 / $326,000 / - $76,800 Abbot $375,000 / $244,000 / + $130,300 Way $20,000 / $183,000 / - $163,400 Yacinich $150,000 / $158,400 / - $8,400 Adams $137,900 / $137,900 / 0.00 The Angels total draft allotment is $5,774,400 Bonuses to date $2,532,900 Alotment remaining $3,241,500 For the bonuses committed compared to the slots for those picks, the Angels are $5,400 under budget. Chris Ellis and Jordan Kipper are in the College World Series.
  18. Rd #8 Jake Yacinich signed for $150,000, slot at $158,000 With the announced bonuses so far, the Angels are $135,700 below their alotment. As a reminder, the bonuses from first ten rounds and any bonus for players drafted in rounds 11-40 that is over $100,000 counts against the alotment.
  19. Bo Way, this year's bonus cap cushion. Since the new slot/tax system has come into play there is at least one college senior who is drafted in the first ten and signed well below slot. So far, calculating only the announced bonuses compared to the slot assigned for that pick, the Angels are $276K under budget.
  20. Give it back. Shake his hand. Call it a day. Anything else is gravey.
  21. Keep interleague. Realign into 3 leagues of 10 (National in the east, American in the central, and Pacific for the west) with the teams being arranged geographically. 6 home and 6 away against the other nine teams within your league for 108 games. 3 home or away games against the teams in the other leagues for an additional 60 games. 168 game season. Alternate the home and away games against the other leagues so that fans can see every team within a two year span. Eliminate the All Star Game but have a two day break in the middle of the season. League champs and best five teams go to the playoffs which is seeded into an 8 team bracket. The realignment reduces travel which causes wear and tear on the players. It also increases games in the teams time zone (except for Texas and Houston which would stay wit the west coast teams.) which is good for revenue. Natural local rivalries have some teeth. If the Angels and Dodgers don't like sharing SoCal now, what happens when they play 12 games against each other a season and a spot in the playoffs is on the line?
