  1. To pretend there's a way to pitch someone just at home or just on the road is incredibly naive. Not just you QM, other people have mentioned it. As it is we pitch Salas too much. So now you're going to carry a sixth starter which shortens your pen by another arm. This going with our starters only giving us six innings.

Normally id say its a crazy idea but he actually is somewhat elite at home.  Would be an interesting strategy.

  2. Ok, what part of batting behind Trout in your mind makes it sound like he wouldn't bat directly behind Trout? It is a common baseball term, when you say so and so bats behind player A that means he bats directly after him in the line up. You have also in the past had a problem with Albert batting directly behind Trout in the line up. So I guess I assumed you meant Albert should be moved down and that because Sosh hasn't done just that he gets no credit for last year or ever.

Kole was batting 5th for pretty much an entire month of spring training plus pre season. Dont you think I was aware of that?

  3. Sorry for the late response but I assumed you meant directly behind him, because well when you say behind Trout it's pretty easy to come to that conclusion. You also have said Kole batting behind Trout in relation to Albert batting behind Trout. My argument was simple, you want your better hitters hitting in front of Trout so Trout can drive them in.

For the record I'm in favor of Trout batting 3rd and Kole batting 5th as long as the two guys hitting in front of Trout get on base.

I appreciate the response but its pretty obvious what I meant.  Heres my initial post in the thread I was talking about

I was very pessimistic about this team to start spring training, but ive started to come around on them. I think Calhoun batting behind Trout will pay dividends for this team offensively and be a difference maker. The 3-4-5 of this lineup will be among the best in baseball. Escobar looks to be a solid addition offensively, and could be the on base threat we need at the top. I think the rotation will be top 5 in the AL. Richards, Heaney, and Santiago will have solid seasons. Smith and Street will be their usual dominant selves. In conclusion, 1-5 of the lineup, 1-3 of the rotation, and SU/CL in the pen will all be elite this season. If the rest of the roster has any upside at all, this team will win the division. Im gonna say 96 wins.

I still will not give Scioscia any credit after the season. Mainly because batting Calhoun behind Trout is something ive been saying on this board for years, and hes finally doing it now. We would have easily made the playoffs last season if he had done it then, so you can thank Mike Scioscia for that.

I predicted this would be a 96 win team almost 2 weeks ago, well aware that Calhoun would be batting 5th behind Trout and Pujols.  Lou's attempt to spin it into making it look like I meant Calhoun should bat directly behind him was an attempt to make it look like he wasnt wrong.  Its all good though, I just thought it was pretty obvious what I meant, given this post I made above.  Calhoun does better with runners on base, its a simple concept to grasp.  Thats all I was getting at.

  4. btw, wrong again.

Kole has more ABs batting 6th than he does 5th

seriously, being wrong has to be getting old for you

Id say that has more to do with the fact that were playing lefties, where Cron takes 5th. As the season progresses, hel be 5th for the majority.

And the point was, Calhouns slugging is wasted being in front of Trout, because hes better with runners on base. As evident by the numbers i posted, which you ignored. Sorry Lou, doesnt feel so good to be the one being agreed with does it

  5. lmao

oh you meant anywhere from 4th to 9th?

nobody's buying it so you can bump it all you want. In fact, I'm hoping you do so we can all laugh at you about it all over again.

    Good times...

Haha no, I meant behind Trout, which means 4th or 5th, which hes been in for majority of the season. I think you know what I meant, you just cant accept that you were wrong. You dish out a lot of crap to people but get all tight when someone calls you out on your own blunders. How cute.

  6. Since I've been alerted about this post a few times, I guess I owe it a response.  Well, CF8....

    LOL!!!!!

"Trout batting 2nd last year with Calhoun 3rd and Pujols 4th would have made this lineup so much more dangerous, regardless of who you put in front of Trout. "

He's batting 6th today. So if he batted 9th all year you would gloat and say you were right?  He has yet to bat behind Trout.

That was pretty damn funny. Thanks

I didnt mean directly behind Trout, but hes been batting 5th behind Trout and Pujols for most of this year, and hes put up great numbers so far.

But nice try in trying to spin it to make it look like you werent wrong.  I still have the thread bookmarked and it will be bumped when the time is right.

  7. Strad and Lou, told ya guys that Calhoun belongs behind Trout.  This will be the first of many games it proves to be right.

Calhoun hits pretty well with runners on base and in scoring position.  Been saying it for years, the numbers suggest he should hit behind Trout.  This would be a perfect time for Mike Scioscia to start managing properly and pay attention to the numbers for once.

Yes but do the math Strad.  19 of Calhoun's 26 home runs last year were solo shots.  He had a .234 BA and a .702 OPS with the bases empty (401 at bats).  He hit .293 with a .778 OPS last year with runners on base (229 at bats).

Over the last 3 years, Calhouns splits are as follows

Bases Empty: .245 BA, .725 OPS

Runners on base:  .299 BA, .816 OPS

It is clear Calhoun is a much better hitter with runners on base, there is no denying this, it is a fact and the numbers prove it.  Now factor in Trout has a .400+ OBP routinely.  The numbers have shown that this switch should have been made a long, long time ago, only problem is Mike Scioscia doesnt pay attention to numbers and goes off his horrible instincts.  Trout batting 2nd last year with Calhoun 3rd and Pujols 4th would have made this lineup so much more dangerous, regardless of who you put in front of Trout.

Ive been posting these exact same numbers on here for over a year now, and now its finally coming full circle.  You will see, Calhoun batting behind Trout will be that much of a difference this season, and when its proven true ill go back and bump all my old posts about making the switch so I can take full credit for it.
