JcHc3in1 reacted to Vegas Halo Fan in Angels, city start lease negotiations
The problem is finding a city willing to build one, or pony up a significant portion of the cash to do it. I doubt that Moreno would pay for a new stadium himself, and with city budgets being what they are, getting anywhere to pony up is going to be hard. The Athletics have run into all kind of roadblocks trying to get one built, and the Oakland Coliseum is in far worse shape than the Angels park.
The group in Las Vegas is going to have a tough enough time raising the revenue they need to replace the park for the 51s, and we're talking about less than ten percent of what it would cost to build a state-of-the-art MLB stadium.

It's odd that you put better food accomodations. Then follow it up with wanting Panda.

The seats were orange. I bought 8 of them when they did the re-model.

Marlins park was $515m and the proposed park for San Jose is $500m. But those only hold 37K seats. So a new park would run closer to $700m for 45K fans. Then add to any costs for upgrading the surrounding area. I don't see that happening being in Anaheim (even if Arte agrees to rename the team Anaheim Angels).

And the cost of close to $1B...

I think Angels stadium is suffering from the same handicaps that Dodger Stadium faced. For instance, the outfield area. It's a lot of dead space, because when they renovated it, they partially demolished and built on top of the old area. So the only usable area is pretty much on top. Nothing underneath, or inside. If you completely gut to the foundation the outfield, that's a lot of space that suddenly becomes available. From instance storage space for the groundscrew. To how about a built in restaurant in the RF wall? You go out a few hundred feet, and create a better kids zone. And how about having a bunch of food trucks in that outfield area behing LF and CF. There won't be much of a change to the looks on top, which is good. It's everything underneath and beyond that would change.
Take the same approach the Doggies did for the field level. Dig down and expand.
Expand the courtyard, so that it's multi level of space on each level as another phase in the rebuild. Then really, the last phase would be the redoing of the upper levels. Probably adding another level of box seats in the process.
a multi year plan done in sections. With the end result a stadium that has the same looks, but way more modernized.

A new stadium is not going to put more butts in the seats beyond perhaps an initial flush.

I was there during the renovations at Dodger Stadium this last off season and believe me.... It can be done.

Yes I have been to new modern stadiums. The design of Angels Stadium isn't archaic. It's the oldest stadiums, so what? The bottom line is, it's still a very good venue, there isn't likely going to be a major municipal participation in a new stadium deal, especially if the current revenue arrangements are maintained, and at a price tag of well over $500M, I doubt Arte wants to foot the bill for a new stadium.

The lease is up in 2016 so time is actually getting tight. Arte and Kuhl met with the AEG president a year ago. But only they know what was said in that meeting.

I doubt there are any realistic options to move even if he wanted to, and I doubt he does.

LOL that's not what renovations would be limited to. The team doesn't need a new stadium. A major renovation along the lines of the size that Disney did would work out just fine. It's not like there are major problems with the stadium.

It took 10 years to approve the NFL stadium, and that was with $0 public money. Angels will be in the same position. No public money will be given by LA. And if that's the case, it only makes sense for the Angels to stay where they are, and cut a deal with the city so that they could use the 155 acres of prime property for free.

There is nothing wrong with Angels Stadium that targeted renovation couldn't remedy. I doubt there will be money for a completely new stadium from any sources at any location.

Better chance of dropping "of Anaheim" than LA out of the name. Well unless the COA coughs up all the money for the renovation (fat chance) -

By all outward appearances, the Angels run an exceptional organization. However, there is no way to stop something like this from happening again, humans being humans and all.
A training program, if not already in place would go a long way in steering clear of such incidences in the future.
