  1. Yet reports stating that we had found WMDs from OUR media during the Iraq war were credible? We're going to keep going in circles here. As for the first question, you do realize that this is Al Qaeda we are talking about? Al Qaeda sacrifices their own. I thought that was common knowledge. Edit: Damnit, Jim.
  2. OK, then we launch rockets with "precise accuracy" that kill innocent civilians. It's lose, lose. And sending troops really wasn't my point. Why don't we send cruisers and destroyers to Africa, then?
  3. So Scott, we should send troops to any countries (say Africa) or other parts of the world where genocide is occurring? Sounds like we're gonna need more troops.
  4. Love the show. I watch every new season. They've said multiple times that it's their last season ( the UK show), which would bum me out.
  5. There was an article about the most hated players by their peers for each sport about four or five years ago. Phil was the most hated in golf. They listed reasons from how much different he is on camera compared to off camera to him wing horribly cocky/ a d*ck to many of the players.
  6. His name is Bi O (on the leader boards they spell it Bio) Kim. I played a lot of junior golf with him a while back. He's always been a phenom. Two years ago he made it to the tour through Q-School and was the youngest player on tour, but has struggled since then. As for Merion he said it was the hardest golf course he's ever played. TV doesn't do it any justice, which is usually the case because you can't really see the elevation changes when watching through the tube. My other friend was caddying for him and couldn't believe how nice Stevie Williams was for the last two days. It has definitely made me rethink my preconceived notions towards him. Overall, Bi O said it was a great learning experience and looks forward to more majors in his future, he's only 23. I told him that he better make the 2019 US Open (it's at Pebble that year). It was a cool story and I hope this is a building block for him.
  7. I hate to keep posting about my friend, but he played with Bubba and Adam Scott today. He said both guys were extremely nice. He also said that Stevie was very nice to him all day. That was a surprise to me because I thought Stevie was a total a hole from everything that I've heard. He's actually playing with Scott again tomorrow. As for the tournament I'm definitely pulling for Stricker. He seems like the nicest guy and every time he wins he shows it. It would be a great story.
  8. Ugh. My friend just totally choked and is in danger of missing the cut. He got some TV time, which was cool, though.
  9. I stayed out of this thread for a couple of days because it hits close to home, but I had a cousin who had two very bad head injuries. He took medicine to subdue the seizures and finally went under the knife to get them under control. The procedure worked well for a couple years, but eventually the seizures came back. I truly hope that Brandon doesn't have to go through that.
  10. Good ole title IX. It effected me. I think it's ridiculous that they only give men's golf 4.5 scholarships. Also, you are right about it being competitive. Some of the parents were horribly overbearing to their kids when I played with them. That's why you see so many junior standouts that explode in college. They lose that parent always over their left shoulder. Overall, the talent at such young ages now is just crazy. I played a few times with some of the younger tour player when I was a junior (Fowler, Kyle Stanley, and a few others) and they were just ridiculous. Now there are kids going even lower at younger ages. It's insane. Girls definitely have an easier time getting rides (no pun intended, especially for your sake) to college. I remember a lot of the walk ons and older teammates of mine were a bit resentful because of the imbalance. Happy to hear about you spending quality time with your kids playing golf. When I get a bit older I definitely want to do the same.
  11. Tyler: I bummed that the Pub Links is going away! That's another tourney I always tried to qualify for as well. I know there's a min handicap for entry to that as well, but I can't remember it. Honestly, the Pub Links was just another form of the US Am, though. Only the best amateurs would win. If your son wants to play competitively I would highly recommend that he starts playing in tournaments as early as possible. The earlier he gets in the more normal he will feel under pressure. The other tip would be to get him to practice the right fundamentals. Golf is always about perfect practice, not just practice. People may have different backswings and follow throughs, but at impact almost every touring pro is at a very similar position. Adam- do it! Once I get my career established I will be jumping head first back into competitive golf. Hopefully I'll be able to join a CC somewhere in the area. Do you have any courses in mind? PS I hope I'm not coming off as a golf snob, especially to you Tyler. I just really like to see young golfers develop, but see a lot of them practicing the wrong things. If I was their age, I wish I had someone tell me what I know now. Things may have been different. Signed, Uncle Rico.
  12. The USGA/SCGA really like holding qualifiers at Big Canyon and Newport Beach CC. I've played in a few US Am qualifiers at Big, and let me tell you 36 holes of tournament golf in one day is such a grind. I never made it to medal play for the Am, but one year at Big I finished double, triple to miss the Am by three. I was exhausted and just fell apart. Do you guys ever play in any tournaments, club championships, or anything similar?
  13. Yeah, I'm right around scratch. When I played in college I was around a +2. I definitely miss competitive golf when I see friends/people I know doing well. How about you, Adam?
  14. Has anyone played Big or Newport Beach CC? Big Canyon is really difficult, but a great golf course. Newps is meh for me.
  15. What's even better is that in his interviews he throws one of my close friends who caddied for him under the bus! Haha. Hilarious! http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dwyre-20130604,0,5255251.column I guess my friend gets the last laugh, though, because he's going to Merion to caddy for him.
  16. I think it's a 1.2 handicap. What I meant is that it is open to the public to try to qualify. Obviously there are some restrictions, but I like the fact that there are amateurs in the field of a major like the Open.
  17. That was my mistake. Long day. My fault.
  18. Anyone watch the coverage on the Golf Channel? My buddy made it through the Newport Beach qualifier. Actually won it! Pretty happy about that! Anyone else know people that tried to qualify? One of the really cool parts about the Open; anyone can qualify.
  19. Couldn't have said it any better, Eric.
  20. Obscure rule, but he should have known that. Anyone who plays tournament golf knows that you can't use an aid during play. I didn't read the article until this morning and laughed that he thought what he did was in accordance with the rules. I agree, golf has a lot of rules that should be changed/abolished, but this one is on Overton.
  21. I have a friend on tour who says Overton is one of the most disliked guys by all of the pros. He told me that Overton is a total hot head and has the reputation for being a cheater.
  22. I laughed at that as well, Tank. Dude was arguably the best goalie, ever. He stole so many games for the Habs and the Avs.
  23. My parents are out visiting family in San Antonio. They said the entire first floor of the hotel flooded. 10 feet of water! Of course, all of the all of the electricity is out so my poor grandma (91) had to walk up and down five flights of stairs. Luckily the hotel moved them into their nicer sister hotel and comped the room for the night plus an abundant amount of complimentary drinks. Crazy!
  24. Anyone going to the game? I have tickets and am chomping at the bit to get to the Ponda.
  25. I know we did this on the old board. I've had a pretty rough couple of weeks and want to hear about the good things people have going for them.
