  4. This whole thing about how Houston is beating us because they are loose because they are not expected to win and we are not winning becasue are tight. Just a bunch of BS. There is no reason we should be losing to this team unless we are just as bad.
  5. I actually didnt take away the free tickets but I think that might have violated the Forum Rules because I checked 2 hours later and there were no replies and zero views. I reposted figuring I must have violated the forum terms on the first post. I would love to put a couple Angel tickets on the line for some of these questions if Chuck is cool with it but I don't want to cause any issues and turn this forum into something not intented.
  6. Well no interest. Sorry for posting. Anyway here is the answer. On the 3-1 count. Hitter #2 hits a high towering fly ball that barely carries over the fence for a home run. While hustling it out (since he is not sure it's a home run) he rounds first, steps awkardly and tears his achilles tendon. He falls to the ground and can't move but the ball is over the fence for an HR and is a "dead ball" in the umpires eyes. Here is how MLB rule handles that. 5.10( c )(1) The ball becomes dead when an umpire calls “Time.” The umpire-in-chief shall call “Time”— (a) When in his judgment weather, darkness or similar conditions make immediate further play impossible; (b When light failure makes it difficult or impossible for the umpires to follow the play; NOTE: A league may adopt its own regulations governing games interrupted by light failure. ( c ) When an accident incapacitates a player or an umpire; (1) If an accident to a runner is such as to prevent him from proceeding to a base to which he is entitled, as on a home run hit out of the playing field, or an award of one or more bases, a substitute runner shall be permitted to complete the play. From a statitics perspective, he is credited with the RBI but the run goes to the pinch runner. Here is an actual MLB play that used that rule.   7. It's not marketed that well. If you compare the number of buyers that know of StubHub versus Ticket Exchange, I'm going to guess it's around 5-1. The number of tickets listed on both Stubhub and Ticket Exchange for any given game is about the same. So the same supply but much less demand on TE due to lack of knowledge of it's existence. The interesting thing is that TicketExchange for the most part is a better deal than stubhub especially when it comes to high priority games. Tickets are instant and buyer and seller fee's are lower. Just not that many people know about it. I am selling all my tickets on StubHub still and 95% so far are selling on StubHub even though I list them on TicketExchange as well. Another reality is that StubHub is a business that is genuinely interested in making the experience as good as possible for buyer and seller. That is how they grow and make more $$. Thus you see a very good website and very good policies that protect fan's against fraud. TicketExchange on the other hand is simply an outsourced vendor by the Angels to help out Angel Season Ticket holders. They have no vested interest to make this a great experience for anyone. It's just a convenience offering and thus you won't see them ever develop the capability to compete with Stubhub for the $$$ making aspect of the business.
  8. I think the Angels are already doing things to Trout to alienate him a bit. My belief is that his heart is in another part of the country and if you want to keep him here you better win his heart here before it comes time for hime to decide his own fate for 7-10 years. Angels are not winning his heart up to this point .

Hitter # 1 has a 3-0 count. on a 3-0 count hitter #1 swings out of his shoes and misses for strike 1. He strained his oblique and cannot continue his at bat. Hitter #2 comes to the plate to finish the at bat. On the first pitch (3-1 count) hitter #2 hits a home run to win the game. Hitter #2 is only credited with an RBI but not a run. How is this possible? I will post answer after tonight's game.
  10. So I hope this one will be a little harder than the last question. Just to up the stakes I will give away 2 Angel tickets to the correct answer *(section 427 row B. Since we will probably have many winners also give me the box scores for both teams for tonight game. For example, Angels 4 runs 10 hits 2 errors, Astros 1 run 6 hits 0 errors. I will compare to the final box score and subtract the difference between your guess and the actual number of all 6 categories then add each resulting differences. To further clarify, Using my guesses above. If the final box score is Angels 9 runs 14 hits 2 errors and Astros 2 run 8 hits, 1 error. I get the following (9-4)+(14-10)+(2-2)+(2-1)+(8-6)+(1-0)=13. Remember, lowest scores wins. Whomever has the correct guess and lowest score wins. I will announce the winner at the end of the game tonight.   11. ANSWER OK so I think the answer was easy on this one as most got it right away. The left fielder dropped a ball in foul territory and was charged with an error. This is the only situation that does not nullify a perfect game. If he dropped the fly ball and threw the runner out at 2nd the perfect game would still be over because the batter had reached base safely before being thrown out.   14. Here is a scenario that I don't think has happened ever in a MLB game but let's see who knows the answer. I will post the answer after the Angel game tonight. Billy Bob of the Atlanta Beavers is throwing a perfect game into the 7th inning . With two outs in the 7th, a ball is hit to the left fielder and dropped for an error. Billy Bob retires the next next 7 batters in a row and is credited with a perfect game. The final box score looks like this 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 R H E Hens 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 Beavers 0 2 0 0 0 1 0 0 x 3 8 1 How is this possible that he gets credit for a perfect game?

OK here are the answers: From MLB rulebook section 2.0 under definition FOUL BALL: Rule 2.00 (Foul Ball) Comment: A batted ball not touched by a fielder, which hits the pitcher’s rubber and rebounds into foul territory, between home and first, or between home and third base is a foul ball. So question one answer is Foul ball Question two is not specifically addressed in the rule book but it has to be ruled as a ground ball in play. I had heard verbally from one source awhile back that it was an out (if caught in the air) but I looked everywhere and only found that it's a fair ball ruled as a grounder. The same baseball rule in section 2.0 definition FAIR BALL I believe covers this.. A FAIR BALL is a batted ball that settles on fair ground between home and first base, or between home and third base, or that is on or over fair territory when bounding to the outfield past first or third base, or that touches first, second or third base, or that first falls on fair territory on or beyond first base or third base, or..... Hitting the rubber would be considered fair ground. I don't think this has ever happened in a MLB game especially with the perfection in which mounds are maintained. The rubber is usually perfectly even with the mound dirt. However as a game progresses it's possible some of the rubber's edge can be exposed as pitchers manicure the mound to their liking. I did find several examples of where this has happened in little leagues and in men's leagues and were being described on Umpires forums for the proper ruling when this happens. In those cases it was in regard to question 1. In one game a ball grazed the pitcher, hit the rubber and roled back to the catcher who then threw out the runner going to first. A rare 1-2-3 putout.

  17. I don't think I would be comfortable with Iannetta at Lead-off. However, you bring up a great point about his OBP. I have seen him being knocked for is AVG and being compared to some of our bad offensive catchers such as Mathis. There is no comparison to be made as Mathis rarely walked. Iannetta has always had a history of walking (look at his OBP for Rockies) and this is one reason why he is extremely valuable. You can look at his OBP and that to me this is as valuable as AVG especially since he is getting on for the big boys coming up behind him. Also, he provides some decent pop and for some reason IMO seems to often hit homers when you the team need them (to either expand a lead in a close game or get us close in a game where we are 3-4 runs behind).

I'm in the process of writing a book centered around the bizarre/rare events and least known rules and possibilities in a MLB game. some of these have never happened and some have only happened once or twice in the games history. I will post some of these from now and then. Here is the first. Try not to look it up. Instead use your intuition or what you currently know about the game. I eventually had to look all these up but thinking about the possibilities before I did that was the fun part. A batted ball hits the mound rubber and ricochets into the dugout on the third base side, what's the ruling? What if the ball ricochets back to the catcher before hitting the ground and he catches it?
  19. I would not be surprised if the Angels left the Anaheim area. My neighbor is a lawyer for the City of Anaheim and for years has talked about the "war" between the city of Anaheim and Arte. Three years ago he was certain Arte would have no plans to keep the team in Anaheim once the lease was up. Talking to him recently he indicates that there hasnt really been any improvement in the relationship. His personal opinion is that he thinks the team is moving out of the LA area but he does not qualify why he thinks that but he seems pretty confident about it. I think it's a possibility but would be very surprized as I'm not sure what other market would draw as well as the OC.
  20. I love Gubi and loved Hudler. I would love to sit down and sip a brew with the Hud man and talk baseball. Not a fan of Rojas especially when he gets on those sarcasm runs. Sometimes he gets Gubi doing it. Also, ever since Rojas got here the Angels became much worse and the Rangers became much better. I think there is something to that and we should send him back to Texas Physioc still had the best Angels win line "Light up the Halo" I hope he said it today.
  21. So my son and I were at In N Out Burger last night (about a mile from the stadium) when a firetruck went screaming by. While in line we saw the helecoptor overhead. We couldnt figure out what had happened especially when we left and noticed all the lights were off at 9pm when 30 minutes earlier they were all on. It was so wierd and now we know what happened. Thanks for the post.
  22. This will be Arte's back up plan if he does not win the hearts of the LA region to his Angels. Our Angels will become the Vegas Angels.
  23. If you examine Arte's history especially in the area of marketing. He is very worried about it. It may be the wrong approach but he believes in that vision. I don't think it would ever happen for the Angels ( to be the dominant fan popular team in the LA metro area) unless they won titles consistently and the Dodgers didn't win. If that happened over a decade or two, the younger fan base in my opinion would become loyal more to the Angels as every fan wans to be associated with a winner. It takes a lot of time however and up until three years ago the Angels were making huge strides to win the battle of LA. The Dodgers still are not winning but if you give the choice to LA fans over both teams right now the majority will take the Dodgers. Arte is intent on turning this around.
  24. Obviously I can't guarantee and its just my opinion. However, with that said, the way I would back it up it the fact that he is still one of the best managers in the game, his track record proves that. He has won significantly more than he has lost. He is still relatively young and if he ends up wit he Dodgers I would expect it to be a long tenure and I would expect him to continue to win and go to the playoffs like he has in the last 10 years. Also, the Dodgers have a rich baseball history and record of going to the WS and winning in the last manyl decades. It's my opinion but if Scioscia went to the Dodgers. I would put a Vegas bet in every year for that team to win the WS and within 5-10 years I am certain it would happen based on his winning track record and the winning tradition of the Dodgers franchise.
