  1. When I think of Freese, I think of how the team played while he was injured and out of the line up.....we sucked. When he returned, we went on a little run. He brings those intangibles that do not show up in the box score. For a reasonable two year deal, I would bring back Freese. I'm all for youth, but not sure if we need to keep both Cowart and Kubitza.
  2. Angels in left field last year: Batting Average: .216 OBP: .275 OPS: .592 HR: 9 RBI: 51 Heyward: BA: .293 OBP: .359 OPS: .797 HR: 13 RBI: 60 OWar: 3.9 I could see him either batting leadoff, or more than likely in the three spot: Calhoun Trout Heyward Pujols Murphy (in my dream slot) Cron
  3. Ramos: LH Hitters: Avg - .274 OBP: .346 OPS: .662 RH Hitters Avg: .284 Obp: .324 OPS: .707 If lefty hitters are getting on base at a 35% clip, and you job is to get out LH hitters, you are not doing your job.
  4. I think you are all over valuing a LHRP, who struggled to get LH hitters out: Ramos splits last year: Right / Left AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 95 4 26 4 0 0 11 8 3 21 1 0 .274 .346 .316 .662 vs. Right 102 13 29 4 0 2 12 7 0 22 3 0 .284 .324 .382 .707
  5. Very good signing.... As far as the rest, I see us focusing on a LFer and a SP....I think we trade for a 2Bman and run with Cowart/Kubitza at 3rd. I see us giving a lower salary to the two players we sign for the 2016 year (I know it's an overage contract, but I just think that is how Arte's mind will work). Also, with Weaver and Wilson coming off the books next year and Crapilton soon after, I can see Arte exceeding the Luxury tax threshold this year.
  6. Santiago, Tropeano and Cowart In my opinion, we will regret trading Skaggs.
  7. On the MLB radio station (I missed a portion of it), but Alden Gonzalez thinks we will be in line for a front of the rotation guy...like Price I could see us signing one more position player, adding a FA pitcher and trading to fill the other hole. Something tells me we run with Cowart or Kubitza at 3B I don't know how good defensively he is, but...Davis can play the OF.
  8. So I was listening to MLB.com earlier today, and they suggested the Reds basically gut the team and start fresh. They were talking about moving Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, Phillips and Joey Votto. They already think Jay Bruce will be move to the Angels during the off-season, would this be something to pursue....Bruce and Frazier to the Halos for ????????
  9. I do not see us signing a starting pitcher.....relief pitcher yes... We will sign a LFer and either a 2Bman or 3Bman
  10. I'd be good with Kubitza at 3B, especially if that means we can upgrade at LF and 2B. Lets spend Arte's money wisely. Freese is not a wise spending of money.
  11. I like Randle and Clarkson....the Lakers FO screwed the pooch on the Russell draft pick. They should have drafted Okafor and looked to pick up a guy like TJ McConnell in the 2nd round. If anybody watched him with the UofA, TJ is a true point guard and team leader. Would have been great for the Lakers.
  12. I really like how we can easily offer to trade a pitcher coming off of arm surgery, and have no problems, but if we were to receive CJ coming off a surgery, we would want Eppler's head, Arte's head and Scioscia's ass fired. CJ may be moved, if he proves he is healthy in ST. More than likely, as I have been saying, we will move Hector and possibly Shoe or Trop. Our starters next year like it or not, will be: Richards, Heaney, Skaggs (I believe he will be back and ready to go)Wilson and Weaver.
  13. I like Zobrist, I don't a 34 year old signed for three years. I'd rather look for a young solid OFer, go with Cowart/Kubitza (or even Freese if the price is right) and find a lead off guy for 2B. We all know the Angels need to fill four holes: 2B, LF, 3B and C (you could throw in BP help too) The options at 3B are not great, leaving us to look for an impact bat in LF....I think we see that void filled by a FA signing and we trade for a 2B lead off guy. I think we go in house at 3B or C.
  14. If Avila can back up, I like that addition, not thanks to Fister. Heck, I'd even take Murphy at 2nd base. I don't think CJ gets moved in the offseason, we would have better luck at a trade involving Santiago and maybe Tropeano. I know Santiago sucked it in the 2nd half, but controllable pitchers are good assets. We need a lead off hitter, and a power bat......options to fill those spots in our line up is at 2nd, LF and 3B. I think we go after one FA and one trade and fill 3B with an in house option.
  15. Great trade ideas, but we are limited in the asset department. I would expect one trade, Santiago/Trop and I would expect one FA acquisition, maybe two. I expect the Angels to explore a Justin Upton or Jason Heyward for the OF... What I think we should explore: Alex Avila behind the dish Upton or Heyward for LF Zobrist for 2nd/Util I think we look to trade someone to fill one of those spots. I also think we re-sign Freese.
  16. 2016 Rotation: Richards, Weaver, Wilson, Heaney and Skaggs (pitch/inning count) Newcomb will be in Triple A, with the possibility of a 2nd half or September call up Santiago (I was mocked earlier about this), will be moved. Shoemaker and Tropeano will stay in Triple A Weaver and Wilson are both done after 2016 (Wilson can block a trade to 8 teams next year). I do not see us acquiring starting pitching, unless a David Price falls into our laps, but I think Richards, Skaggs, Heaney and Newcomb are the 2017 cornerstone starters.
  17. I went through this a while back...(some people didn't agree especially when I mentioned moving Santiago)...but lets look at the Angels as a whole: RF - Cole CF - MT LF - Murphy? - replacement 1B/DH - Cron and Pujols 2B - Repacement SS - Aybar 3B - Freese? Cowart? C - Perez and ? SP: Weaver, Wilson, Richards, Heaney, Skaggs, Santiago, Tropeano, Shoemaker, Newcomb (probably Triple A bound) Bullpen: Street, Gott, Smith Next year, I think our rotation will be: Richards, Heaney, Skaggs, Weaver (he is not going anywhere), Wilson (possibly a move back to the pen) and Shoemaker - I think Santiago and either Shoe or Tropeano are moved. I think by ASB we will probably see Newcomb in our rotation and Wilson or Weaver will be out of the rotation. I think we look to move Santiago for either a LF or 2B replacement, we need a guy who can lead off. With Hamilton, Wilson, Weaver and Pujols salary, I do not expect us to be heavy in FA, unless we can back load a contract. Someone make take a flier on Cron if we can sign a power 1B/DH option like Davis. The biggest thing, is we need a strong draft and a better scouting budget.
  18. You know what is not fair....all the times we faced Keuchel or when Sonny Gray went up against Shoemaker or when Trout struck out looking or when we sucked and had a huge losing streak or when (insert your whine here). Life is....facing Greinke or Kershaw four times will not make or break a season...for every ace you face, you face a #5 or a #6 pitcher.
  19. Tough to say....Next year our pitching staff will look much different. Even with the regression of Weaver, you still have Skaggs coming back, a healthy-ish Wilson. Is this the real Shoe or is it a Sophmore slump? Not to mention, we will not be returning the same time next year as this year. Crapanetta will not be back, LF will not be a black hole, We will see an upgrade along the way.
  20. First off, I must admit, I am not a David Freese fan. I would much rather have Grilchuk handling the OF, but it is what it is.... With that being said, when Freese returned to the club, something changed. While Freese was out our record: 11-26 Since Freese has returned: 7-4 ( I know sample size blah blah blah) Is Freese the quite clubhouse leader ....I don't know, but this club has played much differently over the last 11 or so games.
  21. Dipoto would not have traded our young controllable pitching to TUlo....Arte maybe, not Dipoto. He spent the time and energy to acquire that talent. With Aybar at SS, Tulo was not coming here.
  22. If we miss the playoffs, why not blame the 28-39 road record If we miss the playoffs, why not blame the piss poor offense: Runs - 560 - 23rd Batting Average - .244 - 29th On Base Percentage - .306 - 27th Slugging Percentage - .388 - 26th We don't deserve to make the playoffs.
  23. It still amazes how everyone thinks we have this great farm system and stoneman or whom ever can acquire anything and everything. Due signings of Wilson, Hamilton and Pujols we have missed out on several first round picks. Due to some poor drafts, we have missed out on quality players. The "talent" we acquired cost us nothing, and at least Murphy is performing decently. This club needed to stay on the rebuilding path....Dipoto, as much as everyone hates on him, started that movement. Younger, controllable solid pitching, moving Conger for Perez and Trop was a pretty decent move, moving Trumbo for Skaggs and Santiago was a genius move. Acquiring Kubtiza was not a bad move either....poor marks on the Joyce for Jepsen move, but again, Jerry had a plan, Mike and Arte screwed it up.
  24. Lets be logical....I scary thought for some of us.... Weaver and Wilson will not be traded (maybe at the deadline, but who in the hell wants them or will take them. Santiago and Shoe may have some trade value. Santiago if we push the first off of the season, and Shoe if we show them his rookie season and focus on the positive...maybe a move to Detriot Richards, Heaney and Skaggs will be our future guys, not going to move them. So...next years starting pitching: Weaver, Wilson, Richards, Skaggs and Heaney, with Trop and Newcomb in AAA So, what does that leave us with? Can you move Santiago or Shoe for a 2bman with lead off skills? Can you sign a guy to play LF (cespedes, Justin Upton?) What about a catcher, I doubt we get Wieters, but a guy like Avila wouldn't be too horrible. At some point we have to let the young guy play 3B...either Cowart or Kubitza. This team is not completely broke, it just looks that way. We have moveable pieces. I also think Arte needs to open his check book, he is responsible for this mess, let him spend his way out.
