  1. You don't get it do you? Read the article. Read the Athletic article on the Mets pitching academy. The only thing this is about is competitive balance. Our competition is doing things to help develop their players that Arte won't do. Let's hope Minasian has the juice to change the losing culture Arte has created.
  2. Not league wide. The Angels are not competing with their competitors. "Cleveland redid their entire weight room, providing three meals a day. They were flying guys out," Lovegrove said. "They were giving a lot of players, not just their top prospects, the opportunity to seriously improve themselves under the eye of the organization, and in doing so, I think they produced significantly better players than they would have had their system operated like the Angels." "Teams across baseball are making changes to their minor league systems, including the Giants, Boston Red Sox and New York Mets. The Giants previously were not paying salaries to players in extended spring training before changing their tune in June, according to SFGATE. The Red Sox are now offering additional benefits to minor leaguers, including extended spring training back pay and housing stipends retroactive to early May. The Mets joined 12 other teams in baseball in paying extended spring training players." There is also the Mets pitching academy that someone posted earlier. The Angels are not competitive. Maybe Minasian has the juice to change the culture Arte has created. Maybe not.
  3. So let's take the whiners off the table. Now it's only about the Angels. Do you care if the Angels have an infrastructure that is as good or better than our competition? MiLB development, scouting, front office analytics, international signings, etc.
  4. I just posted this on another thread but it works here better: Why don't we go the Chuck Finley developmental path with certain players any longer? Is it injury concerns? Do other organizations do this? Finley was drafted at 22. Was a reliever with the Angels at 23/24. And became a full time starter at 25. I know this path would not work for many prospects but if we could fill a spot or two in the bull pen each year with a young guy who has had success as a starter in AA/AAA I think it would help. Why not have guys like Bachman spend a year as a reliever with the Angels rather than in AA/AAA. I know it has been mentioned but it could be a developmental path for pitchers every year. They were doing this with Rodriguez but Minasian sent him back down to get stretched out. Why not let him stay in the bull pen this year and revisit it next year?
  5. This is a bit off topic but ties back into the larger discussion. Why don't we go the Chuck Finley developmental path with certain players any longer? Is it injury concerns? 6. Agreed. He couldn't get a multi year deal this year and he has been horrible this year - .227/.294/.298/.592. Showing signs of decline defensively also.
  7. Mayfield is playing himself into sticking around when Rendon returns. I would send Rengifo to SLC instead of Mayfield.
  8. Some of you are burying the lead by talking about their tough job beginnings and Lovegrove's bonus. I have plenty of stories about the jobs I had when I was in college in the 80's and what I did right out of college to start my career but I'm not going to go there. You know why? Because this is not about me. Some of you are completely missing the point here. The point is Arte should be leading this organization in such a way as to make us competitive in all facets of the game. He is not. Hell, he won't even comment on it. "Moreno did not respond to ESPN after request for comment." This is really no different than the concerns many of us have with the lack of resources allocated to scouting and the international markets. We are not competing with our competition. That's on Arte. So is this. "Cleveland redid their entire weight room, providing three meals a day. They were flying guys out," Lovegrove said. "They were giving a lot of players, not just their top prospects, the opportunity to seriously improve themselves under the eye of the organization, and in doing so, I think they produced significantly better players than they would have had their system operated like the Angels." 9. If he did receive a $400 K signing bonus 9 years ago then taxes took about 40% so it was around $240.
  10. I'm rooting for him. I hope he does better than his last start - 3 1/3 IP, 5 Hits, 4 Runs, 2 Singles, 1 Double, 1 Triple, 1 Home Run. Fortunately he was was followed by other pitchers who gave no hits in 4 2/3 innings.
