I think this is them trying to be transparent.
They were one of the few teams to have their trainer speak to the media, but it blew up in their face when Frostad mentioned Trout having the back condition.
This allows them to be more open about the injury statuses of players while having more control about when they put it out and what is being said.

The logical part of my brain says it made no sense to give up a pick for a guy who may opt out in a year.
But 3/$80M is so much lower than his original projections that I feel like the Angels could’ve worked something out that got them more than 1 year of Bellinger without long-term risk.

I really don’t know if it happens, mainly because Arte is unpredictable.
Maybe he wants a shorter deal, maybe he doesn’t, or maybe he doesn’t want them at all.
In order for the Angels to get one, Snell/Monty are gonna have to want a deal that Arte’s comfortable with AND the Angels will have to have the best offer among other teams (perhaps by a decent margin).
