No I’m questioning what budget Stradling thinks Arte approved. Signing Corbin would’ve ramped up the budget by $20M+ I seriously doubt that Arte was going to do that.

I call BS on that. Arte made Trout the priority and the Eppler had to stay within a budget to fill in gaps with what was left to spend. I do think that Eppler will focus on pitching but it won’t be about signing Cole. I think he’s going to try to fill two SP spots for the same amount of money that Cole will cost.

So if Arte didn’t want to outbid the Nats at 6/140M for Corbin (bargain) with the same budget what makes you think that Arte is going to shell out $200M for Cole.

We just need some minor tweaking.

With Pujols, Upton, Trout, Simmons and Cozart adding up to $115M in 2020 it’s going to be extremely difficult to sign Cole for $20M -$24M per and still field a team.

I agree with this. I’ve seen that guy get lit up like a christmas tree. He’s either really good or really bad.

The only way to get a frontline Ace is through free agency by spending $200M+ or gutting the farm. I don’t think they’ll do either with the hopes that Ohtani develops into that guy. They’ll be shopping for 2’s & 3’s.

DJ Lemahieu oops we already missed out on him. Probably the best free agent pick up this season. Plays three different infield positions, great leadoff hitter and is nails wRISP.

Ohtani is probably slated to be our Ace next season. I don’t think Arte will pony up for a $180M -$200M arm. Especially a Boras client. I just hope that Ohtani’s velocity doesn’t take a dive. I’m also concerned about his two way player workload management and how that affects the rest of the rotation. I wonder how the rest of the rotation handles their own preparation when Ohtani can kind of pick and choose his own pitching schedule and his days off. He’s a phenomenal talent but let’s see how all this plays out.

Economically.

Eppler needs to fill both the 2 & 3 spots in the rotation with the hopes that Ohtani is our Ace.
