  1. The Reds have said they will hold onto Castillo since they believe they have a chance to win their division. I think that means we'd have to overpay to get Gray. Pass for me.
  2. Option 1 is the only answer. Given how history has repeated itself over the year (Cole, Corbin, Strasburg, etc) I don't think Arte will miss on a frontline guy again. They can't after they've told the public that they're trying to figure out what's wrong and are going to make serious changes. The change is to stop falling short on pitching. If they want their young guys to grow and mature then they need 1 guy. Bauer. They need an Ace. They have forced their fans to suffer with so many 1yr deals to guys on the far backend of their careers. (Teheran, Cahill, Harvey....) Time to put their money where their mouth is and get an Ace. Bauer is projected to go about 200 innings this year as well. Something the Angels have been in desperate need for.
  3. Pujols mentoring Puig actually might play very well.
  4. I think we can guarantee they are in on Bauer as they've likely been in on every free agent pitcher and ones on the trading block. I also wouldn't be surprised if they've given him an offer. Is it the most money? Probably not. But I don't think Arte would afraid to finally get a pitcher that we need. Arte knows the Angels haven't had had premium tradable assets in years which is why he's never looked away from spending on free agents.
  5. Yeah agree to an extent. I think Blue Jays will officially land Springer amidst this Mets news. With Bauer having a girl agent I get the feeling that negotiations between Porter and Luba/Bauer have died down a bit. It's between White Sox and Angels for Bauer. White Sox would have their highest payroll in history in they get Bauer, which after COVID-19, who knows how much they can financially handle They've got a pretty solid 3 in the rotation and they might be content. This is a rare opportunity where I think the Angels have a chance for singing Bauer to literally fall in their laps.
  6. If that's what netted Musgrove then I'd have to at least assume that the asking price for Gray or someone along those lines would be too much for the Angels to afford. I really think this opens a major door for the Angels to make a run for Bauer. I can't see this organization being so openly honest about serious changes being needed and then only singing someone like Odorizzi who has a BIG question mark. In my opinion, I just can't see Arte striking out on yet another chance to get a top pitching free agent. Just seems like certain scenarios are happening that is making the likelihood of Bauer to the Angels more of a reality then it's been with past pitchers.
  7. So what do we all think this means for their market now? Steve Cohen doesn't have much time to "follow up and review the facts". He's likely got (2) $100M+ offers to Bauer (maybe) and Springer. Their decisions might change based on this baggage. Especially if rumors are true that Springer might sign this week. If they don't want Springer going to the Blue Jays then Porter needs to be fired immediately. If not, then I'd expect the Blue Jays to sign Springer and Bauer be between the Angels and White Sox. Keep in mind that the White Sox have a much deeper rotation and their payroll has never exceeded $130M. Signing Bauer would put them around $145M-$150M. hmmmmmmm..... Angels.......
  8. Guys want a good laugh? Here's a Dodgers fan telling Bauer why he should become a Dodger
  9. On a second note, I wonder what this does for Free Agents specifically Springer. Even though he's full of Sh**, maybe Springer will avoid the Mets and will now be a favorite for the Blue Jays. Brings the Bauer sweepstakes down to Angels and White Sox.
  10. Yes, it's sickening and he should be fired. I'm glad this story came out, but geeze from 2016? Come one.
  11. Chatwood has been doing some bullpen work specially back in 2019. I don't think this counts them out of the Bauer race at all. However, the more we see the Jays and White Sox making more pitching moves then it will mean Bauer/Angels might be making progress.
  12. I think the Musgrove trade can be a BIG positive for the Angels. Yes, I thought they were done and likely were heavy after Musgrove, but I think this lights a little fire under Arte's ass again. Last year for example, we lost out on Cole and the Angels immediately flipped and went to Rendon. Was it a pitcher? No, but it was still a position we needed to fill. The Angels (by firing Eppler, having internal talks with Trout, etc, and saying payroll isn't going down) has given me thought that the Angels have publicly announced they need pitching help and know they need to win now. Arte doesn't want to show up empty handed. Let's say the Angels were in talks for Musgrove, Darvish and maybe even Snell. We've struck out on everything so far. One piece we haven't missed? Bauer. If it's a bidding war for a pitcher I doubt Arte will let it slide again. He's made it clear we need pitching, payroll won't go down and things need to change. Angels are in on Bauer. And now that Musgrove is gone, I don't think the Angels are going to let him get away. I went from thinking we're going to get a Quintana or Happ.... but now I firmly believe it will be Bauer to Anaheim, and I think it happens this week.
  13. This might also raise the price on Gray as well, thus taking the Angels out on any trade talks. Spend the money, sign Bauer, look to upgrade whatever is needed come trade deadline, roll into the postseason.
  14. Take Bauer off the Mets' list now. Bauer favorites now are Blue Jays, Angels, White Sox.
  15. Jon Heyman said on MLB Network that the Angels are likely favorites for Trevor Bauer. Bauer to Chicago confirmed is what it means
  16. Really hoping Blue Jays can get Springer. Mets already have a solid rotation so they might go after Brantley if they miss on Springer. Likely leaving Bauer between Angels and White Sox
  17. Yes he would, but I'd sign him after pitching is figured out.
  18. Yup, but we already have a very good offense. The Angels have proven to themselves that a strong offense won't win game when pitching gives up 5+/gm
  19. It could have, but aside from their small signings, it seems nothing has materialized for the Angels. Bigger things needs to happen for them this week. They're on the same (salary saving path) that they were on last year before making an offer to Cole to only then sign Rendon. Angels have gotten 2 good relievers and their catching option for scraps. They're making it seem like they're gearing up to offer Bauer some cash, but this week will tell with what happens. But wouldn't be surprised at all if it's a trade for Musgrove, sign Quintana and then someone like Pederson and they call it good. It's playoff caliber, but it'll be filled with interesting games...
  20. Definitely a deeper team for sure. I wouldn't say Gray is an Ace, but for the Angels he'd be considered one given how crappy our rotation is. I wonder what the actual plan will be financially. The Angels could either push hard with payroll to win it all this year, Or they do another big wave of 1yr deals so they can use cleared payroll in 2022 to sign a big name SS or someone. Do I want Bauer? Absolutely. Do I think Arte wants to dish that out? Not at all.
