  1. Deal! The Dodgers will do anything to increase their rings to money spent ratio.
  2. Yeah, it kinda hurt to type "award the 2017 WS to the Dodgers." How about just vacating the 2017 championship? That would be fair because Houston cheated and the Dodgers just suck.
  3. I think awarding the 2017 World Series to the Dodgers and making the Houston tanker/cheaters destroy their rings would help make things right.
  4. I'm interested to see how Maddon/Eppler/Moreno deal with the 1B situation.
  5. I can see the value of adding Moose. I think that move would most likely be a significant upgrade.. But, after taking into account how poorly we did in other areas last season (SP, C, and 1B), I think we'd be better off addressing those areas with FA's and hoping/praying/wishing that at least one guy from our current roster can step up at 3B.
  6. I dunno. But it reminds me of my all time favorite. I nearly gave myself a heart attack laughing...
  7. (face palm) I see now, the Fangraphs was just for AL. So being ranked 12th is not doing so well. I think I'll stop while I'm behind. Anyway, when you look at how poorly we did at SP, 1B and C last season, I am now in agreement with you that we should give the in-house guys a chance and spend our FA efforts on positions more in need.
  8. I'm not sure at all how the difference between the two sites could be so large....Angels being ranked 21st on baseball-reference and 12th on Fangraphs. I'm sure someone will enlighten us. BTW, after looking at all the positions, I'm starting to agree with you that 3B is not nearly as much as a need as SP, C, and 1B.
  9. Our total WAR from the 3B postion was 1.9 last season (21st in MLB).... Moustakas had a WAR of 3.2 by himself.
  10. Ok, since I posted a bad stat earlier, I am seeking to atone for my sin by posting our WAR and MLB rank for each position: Staring pitching: 0.8 (30th) Catcher: -.07 (28th) 1B: -0.1 (27th) 2B: 2.8 (11th) 3B: 1.9 (21st) SS: 2.8 (15th) LF: 0.9 (22nd) CF: 7.9 (Numero uno) RF: 2.5 (13th) (edit) I better post my source in case I screw something up again. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/team_compare.cgi?request=1&year=2019&lg=MLB&stat=WAR
  11. You're right. My bad. I need to be more careful. My point though is still valid. Moose (if we can get him) would be a nice improvement and give us room to also improve in other positions.
  12. I used: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/team_compare.cgi
  13. You could be right. I'm just trying to think of some path that gets us a chance to contend over the next few seasons w/o totally screwing up the team's future. What I don't want to see is taking huge risks and/or depleting the farm out of a crisis mindset. And who knows? Maybe we can get help in four or five areas and the resulting more balanced team could set the table for the Supernatural's contributions to translate to wins more often.
  14. We had a -0.3 WAR outa the third base position last season. Why not sign Moose to a 2-3 year deal that gives us a decent chance to take that up to +2 or +3 in the short term w/o losing a pick? Then keep going in filling other voids. We need some balance.
  15. I'd like to think we can sign four or five high to mid-level FA's to shorter terms contracts (3-4 year, instead of the 7-8 year Cole is expected to get). If they don't require giving up draft picks, then so much the better. Who knows, with a little luck, maybe guys like Adell and Ohtani have monster years and and we can make a run and still keep most of our young guys for the team's future.
  16. Before I saw your response, I had edited to say we should not trade away youth for older players. Obviously, all teams trade youth for youth at times for various reasons. I just don't want to see us stay stuck in a the rut we are in with a lack of cost controlled youth and too many bad contracts on the books that force us to dumpster dive for FA in a vain attempt to fill holes.
  17. IMHO, the Angels need to STOP trading away young talent for older players. The silver lining of being sub .500 four years in a row is a chance to address our lack of price controlled, home-grown players. In this era, that is the only way for any team to compete. Does that make it harder to compete in 2020? Maybe. But the team has so many needs right now it's going to be hard to compete in 2020 anyway no matter what we do. We need to break the cycle of being both financially hamstrung and low on young help.
  18. Seems odd....but he's seen a lot of success and has an amazing amount of baseball experience/knowledge. Can't hurt to get his two cents on things. Like others, I can't help but think that his relationship with AP is why he wants to be here.
  19. My bad. The article I was looking at talked about him being out of baseball at age 27. He did not play for a year, but he did come back after the article was written and even had a couple of pretty good seasons before ending it at age 32. Honest mistake.
  20. For every Verlander and Scherzer, there are a lot more players like Scott Kasmir (Who started out great and was out of baseball by age 27). https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/2/25/5437902/pitching-aging-curves
  21. Ok, I can see that the huge $$$ would be hard for the Astros to handle. I concede that this could be the biggest reason they didn't make any serious effort to extend him. But, it would still bug me to see us send another draft pick to those tanking sob's.
