Ohtani is two players dude. Two elite playèrs! He's a mega draw and a cash cow. There is a reason Yankee stadium is called the house that Ruth built. Ohtani is on that level. Any franchise getting him in a trade is going to have International attention, a substantial increase in odds of winning a World Series, and a damn nice platform to negotiate an extension from. You think all that is only worth the two players you mentioned?

Idk man. I think some people around here have it wrong. Goldschmidt is the reigning MVP and is under contract for next year and won't come cheap. With that said, I think Ohtani is the more valuable commodity to a large market team during a playoff run. It's at least a comparable market IMO, because of the added dimensions Ohtani brings to a franchise and the chance of extending him or signing him long term.

Urshela was a useful player. This trade may have improved the bottom line by a notch for a minimal cost.

This is the absolute best scenario that I have seen. You trade one Ohtani, while still retaining the second Ohtani for a playoff run. Brilliant!

How is it that the Cards can get this haul for Goldshmidt, but the consensus is that we can't get much for Ohtani? Goldschmidt is under contract next year...he is also half the player,way older,and a whole bunch of other factors compared to Ohtani. Not advocating a SO trade.

It wouldn't be the worse route to take, but you usually sacrifice some talent when you go with a utility type over someone like Goldschmidt. Of course you're going to give up more talent to acquire a Goldschmidt type.

If Minasian is going to acquire a 1b, it should be for someone that solves 1b for next year as well. Unless he's counting on Walsh to rebound there is no one else in the pipeline. Some of the above mentioned names are not solutions for next year. Goldschmidt fits the bill, if Minasian is willing to pay the price. Thaiss could be a viable option as well with the return of O'hoppe next year and possibly sooner.

Seriously I don't think you can count on Rendon moving forward, even if he is healthy. How bout Nolan Arenado? Thaiss can play 1b correct? Thaiss and Drury platoon at 1b, Wallach ( has cooled a bit) but is primarily your everyday catcher with Thaiss resting him on certain days.
