  1. I agree the return's not great but is Bandy really a solid player or more of a good career backup catcher?
  2. I think I'd be okay with rolling into the season with Perez and Maldonado splitting time. But this team needs to add offense in some sort of way. 3rd base and left field are obvious spots that can be upgraded but it would have to be through a trade at this point
  3. 1. Trade Bedrosian for Joe Panik and a pitching prospect 2. Sign Greg Holland and Drew Storen 3. Trade for one of the Diamondbacks starters (Ray, Miller, Corbin)
  4. Thats why to offset Ahmed we'd also need to sign Turner or add offense in some other way. The D-Backs are actually loaded with talented controllable starters now that they've traded for Taijuan Walker so while Ray would be the most desirable and therefor cost the most theres also other bounce back candidates who would benefit from leaving that park and defense (Corbin, Shelby Miller). I think the Diamondbacks would be dumb to sell so low on those guys but who knows
  5. This got me thinking in regards to Nolasco's turn around. Eppler has worked on building a solid defensive team and it showed as we ranked second in UZR last year. The Twins were one of the worst teams in terms of UZR last year and I have a feeling that was a major part of the reason for Nolasco's turn around. Just looking at some of the league's worst UZR from last year and one team that could match up is the Diamondbacks who were even worse than the Twins last year. I'd love to be able to get Robbie Ray and Nick Ahmed in a deal. I think Robbie Ray has some real breakout potential if he could leave the Diamondbacks homerun friendly park and pitch in front of a solid defense including Nick Ahmed at second who is basically Simmons-lite. He doesn't hit much but is a defensive wizard. I have no clue what it would take to get those guys, but if we could then sign Turner and trade Escobar that would be about as good of a fielding infield as a team could have.
  6. Could Ian Desmond be the three year offer? He's finalizing a deal with the ol mystery team today. He would be a nice piece in that he would be our starting 2b and could also spell Maybin in the outfield with Pennington starting at 2nd on those days. I also assume he'll be much cheaper than Turner given that he has a pick attached
  7. He's always been a good hitting catcher but if his future is mostly DHing then I don't see it being much of a steal.
  8. I think with consistent playing he's already ready to put up some numbers. He's still only 24 too. I wonder how Bedrosian's value compares to Davis.Far less proven but much more controllable. If only we could get Soler then sign Turner that would be a very nice looking lineup.
  9. ? Right off the top of my head you could say that the team trading Greinke won both trades. Royals won the World Series with Escobar and Cain being integral members and Segura has turned into a very good player while the Angels didn't do shit with Greinke on the team
  10. Yes if Arte decides to spend there are far more options. I'm just saying you get a lot more bang for you buck spending 7 million on a reliever than a 2b.
  11. In my opinion there's three options that impact this team. 1) we trade Bedrosian, fill holes with the trade and sign a reliever to fill his spot. Bedrosian ends up being the real deal and we lose 5 years of control of a very good reliever, but also gain at least 2 years control of a solid 2b and whatever prospects are in the deal. 2) We hold onto Bedrosian and he becomes the real deal with us and we sign someone like Drew or Utley 3) We hold onto Bedrosian and he turns back into the Bedrosian of old or in some way loses trade value and we sign someone like Drew or Utley. I think if our goal is to fully compete in 2018, whereas 2017 is more of a we'll see what happens year, we would getting all the value we can from Bedrosian while his value is at a fairly high place. I know if he puts another solid year together it will be even higher, but I'd say there's almost an equal risk that his value decreases and given the fact that there are more serviceable relief arms on the market than there are position players, it would be easier to make up for losing Bedrosian than it is find a 2b replacement for the same money. Imo, there is a good a chance of a high potential buy low FA like Holland, Romo, or Storen putting up as good of numbers as Bedrosian does next season.
  12. I'd like the idea of bringing in Crisp as the 4th outfielder but please no on Bud Norris. I'm actually really disappointed we didn't just sign Cashner for the money he got from the Rangers(1 year 10 million i think).
  13. I agree with this. I also don't think it would be a wise investment to go after Jansen or Chapman. I think our best bet would be to target the secondary guys with high upside (Greg Holland, Neftali Feliz, Drew Storen, Sergio Romo) and hope they can regain the form. The pen is really a crapshoot outside of the elite relievers, so it's not out of the question that any of those guys regain form, just like it's not out of the question that they continue their downward trends.
  14. Lost in the hubbub of the Sale deal was that the Red Sox traded for Tyler Thornburg from the Brewers, a guy who I think has a value pretty similar to that of Bedrosian. The Brewers received a young, controllable 3b in Travis Shaw and the Red Sox 7th and 22nd ranked prospects (just from the article on mlbTR). If we could get a package similar for Bedrosian(you could even argue Bedrosian would be worth more,as he had a more dominant season last year, but with less of a track record of success) would you do it? Ex.1 Giants need relief help badly after leading the league in blown saves last year. Bedrosian for Panik, Joan Gregorio(7th ranked prospect in their system), and Austin Slater(22nd ranked). Ex. 2 The Marlins are trying to reshape their pitching staff and are considering Jansen to follow the Indians model of a superpen with AJ Ramos, but are obviously cash strapped. Bedrosian for Dietrich in addition to 2 prospects that are ranked highly within the organization (their farm isn't the greatest) Ex. 3 Yankees are looking for relief help. Bedrosian for Starlin Castro(i'm not sure how much of that salary the Yankees are actually paying), Miguel Andujar(7th ranked), and Chad Green(22nd ranked)
  15. Thoughts on going after Chase Headley and moving Escobar to 2b? He's signed just through 2018 and is still and above average defender at third and comes with a decent bat from the left side(switch hitter). Yankees are trying to shed payroll so maybe he wouldn't cost too much prospect wise.
  16. I'd like to see us pick up Aaron Barrett as a free agent. He should come cheap, has a live arm, and has put up some really good numbers in the minors and had decent success in the majors as well. I think a lot of the guys like JC Ramirez, Deolis Guerra, Morin and even Alvarez are alright to have around and fill out a pen, but shouldn't be guys we bring into close games late. While they put up decent results last year, I think its a bad idea to go into 2016 with any more than 2 of those guys in the pen. I'd also like to see us bring in a guy who can actually get lefties out (Boone Logan please). Jose Alvarez has put up some alright numbers, but he seemed to be one of the least reliable members of the pen in close games last year.
  17. Marte can easily step into Cron's role and provide 20hr power while playing first and DH
  18. True but hopefully it'd be a package closer to what we received for Trumbo. With the Phillies I'd look at Ben Lively, Zach Eflin, Jared Eickhoff, Mark Appel
  19. Cron for pitching in Trumbo trade part II. The Phillies have a lot of good young pitching and absolutely no 1b so they could make sense
  20. Just got released by the Yankees. He might be worth picking up potentially on a minor league deal as a backup outfielder to spell Maybin against tough right handers and compete for the 2b job.
  21. I'm not troll glaus for what its worth i'm just a fairly new poster who doesn't post much
  22. Now sign another righty along the lines of Barrett, Tazawa, Walden and a lefty like Boone Logan or Travis Wood and this bullpen will be much improved from last year.
  23. What I would do: 1) Trade for Derek Dietrich to hold down second base as a left handed power bat who could turn into a very solid player with consistent playing time. 2) Re-sign Bailey and sign 1 more solid right handed reliever and a lefty. (Aaron Barrett and Boone Logan for example). 3) Sign a fifth starter with high risk high reward. I think in order for this season to pan out we need to catch lightning in a bottle from at least one of our starters. (Cashner, Medlen, Derek Holland). Basically bank on a starter with past success and decent stuff and hope for a bounce back season Nagy somehow worked some magic on Nolasco so maybe he could fix one of these guys. Plus our defense should be solid enough next year to help out our starters. 4) Trade Cron in a deal for pitching prospects (which may be needed to trade for Dietrich) and let Marte take over his role as 1b/DH.
  24. I wonder if we still make a free agent signing to platoon in left like Alejandro De Aza or Michael Saunders which would solidify left field and provide us with a 4th outfielder. Would definitely be better than Nava and Gentry.
