If they don’t give him $50 mil a year, will they be competitive?
I understand the concern with committing $50M on top of the Angels current commitments, but they’d then need to figure out how to replace an 8-9 WAR player.

I may be wrong but the sites I've looked at make it seem I am correct. The Angels can resign Ohtani right now to 50m a year and the top 26, the roster, wouldn't pass the 232m cap much less go over 200m.
He should be made the offer immediately IMO.

Richbert88 reacted to Blarg in 2023 26-Man Roster (Updated 2/16)
So many people give Barria so little credit for having the worst of the bullpen jobs. Yes, he is the guy that you bring in with one out in the fourth because Syndergaard or Lorenzon shit the bed and used up 80 pitches and got the other team into a hitting frenzy. He has to try and kill that momentum for multiple innings while everyone else in the pen maybe pitches one inning per outing.
Barria's are kind of a rare breed in baseball right now, like he was plucked out of the 80's and told to eat innings and make it 3 or more. His ERA will be higher than other relievers because he gets exposed to a dozen batters per outing instead of 3 to 5. But he guts it out instead of looking towards the bullpen to see who is going to bail him out after the 3rd batter.
You probably should move Barria to the probable because if he is exposed to waivers he's gone. Every team can use that guy.

As far as the non-tenders go, there's absolutely some value on the market. Where that value exists, shifts depending on who you talk to.
I believe there's some value in David Dahl. Signing him and bringing him to Spring Training to compete for the starting RF spot with Taylor Ward, Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh seems like it would be an excellent idea to me. I really like what I saw from Ward at the end of the season, but last year notwithstanding, I REALLY like what I've seen from Dahl when he's healthy. He can also play the other two OF spots making him a decent fit as a 4th OF if Dahl doesn't get the starting nod. He has the upside to develop into a perennial all-star, and gives the Angels the benefit of time to allow Adell and Marsh to develop in AAA. He may even make one of them expendable which could be crucial in acquiring an arm.
The second is Carlos Rodon. At his best, he was a lefty with clean mechanics, solid command with three "plus" pitches. Unfortunately for Rodon, seven going back to college, he's struggled with consistency and now you factor in injury with inconsistency and it's a headache. However, there's not reason to think he won't be healthy early on in 2020, and he could be stashed in the bullpen while Callaway works some of his magic to get him back to being a starting pitcher. I think it's possible, Rodon may have a car arc similar to CJ Wilson. Wilson struggled with injury and consistency until age 28, found success in the bullpen, returned to a starting role and took off from there. Angel fans were frustrated by him, but if the 5 year deal he signed with the Angels, he gave them three years as a legitimate #3 starter. It's entirely possible Rodon works out of the pen until everything clicks into place and then becomes an all-star.
Obviously, they were non-tendered for a reason though. That's far from the likeliest outcome. But worth a shot.

No. That's such a gross over pay you are talking Miggy Cabrera trade value from ten years ago. Snell is not a true top tier player, he is second tier and your package is for more of a league MVP.
Canning isn't a prospect, he is a MLB starter. That would be the lead in the trade, then a second tier prospect. Nothing more, Tampa has to trade or put up with Snell not wanting to be there. That is the leverage point.

Then you know, its interesting and a fun distraction. And it's not a window. Its a 2nd grader level finger painting. Not really relevant to the right mix of resources.

Strat doesn't work that way. The mere existence of the possible tribute nono is why projected stats for Strat cards is even more random in these results.
In the Strat world, it is possible for a pitcher with a real 2.00 ERA over 200 innings 20 HRs can (and by experience sometimes does) end a replay season with 3.50 over 200 and 40+ HRs allowed.
Simulation is kewl, but I wouldn't read any future REAL results as likely based on it. Probably not even probable.
