  1. I'm actually pleased with how he is keeping the ball down. Most of his misses are splitters too low.
  2. I dont like this umps strike zone..........for either team. He's inconsistent.
  3. Orioles go to 7-0. 9-5, over the chowds. JJ Hardy hit two HRs that probably traveled a total of 610 feet TOTAL. He hit two just inside the Pesky Pole into the first row. Actually, the first one landed on the top of the wall and bounced into the stands.
  4. I am LIKING what I see in Trop! Never mind the five hits. Of course, this IS OAK....................
  5. We have NOTHING to trade. No farm and a collection of replacement level players. OAK has RLPers, too. That's generally their bread and butter, plus good drafting and player development. We are an ill fit in trades with OAK.
  6. Last year the Twins were out of the gate, 1-7, and finished second in the AL Cent with an 83-79 record.
  7. I'd agree with you but this is the reigning NL Cy Young winner. He looks great. Just got to move on, from this game.
  8. Excellent! Only thing better would be if he misplayed the throw home and it hit Doug Eddings in the kisser!
  9. Mariners blow a 2-0 lead with a nightmarish 5th inning where they booted two EASY grounders (one was a tailor-made DP that would have ended the inning). King Felix walked three in the inning. The Rangers got their only hit of the game in that inning; a bloop single to left. 3-2 Ranger win. Iannetta was 2-2, with a walk and two singles.
  10. I dont understand that move. He hits, he fields; two things that TB needs. They never score enough and they have pitchers that generate ground balls.
  11. I'm feeling somewhat "wait and see". Will the Angels again stumble out of the starting blocks in April? It seems a pattern with them, though they were "only" 11-11 in April last year. To me, it just feels like too many guys have to have the best season of their career, thus far, for us to contend. Heaney, Trop, Santiago, Gentry/Nava, Soto/Perez, Cron. And KC has to improve his hitting from last year. We also need more from an Aging Albert. Who knows about the bullpen? Tough to get a read. 83-79. Third place.
  12. ESPN reporting Weaver will start the season on the DL. Alden Gonzalez says no. Oh, never mind. I shouldnt read before coffee.
  13. Was it was his slash line of .200/.307/.277. I guess we are destined to carry Rule V baggage again this year.
  14. Pennington is definitely NOT a bubble guy. If Simmons, Gia or Escobar go down, Cliffy is the guy. Especially at SS. Beyond that, he could be a very solid defensive replacement for Escobar or Gia, late in games.
  15. Or has it already been done? I am curious about this Ortega kid. Has the club already announced his fate?
  16. Well, it certainly cuts down on travel time for the players. Very strange. I didnt realize that Sunday game was an exhibition till this post.
  17. Heaney not really fooling people, so far. Many hard hit balls. Two hits in the first two innings and two hard hit balls in the third.
  18. A good confidence builder for Gia, and all his hard defensive work, ends the first frame.
  19. I remember him, and K Rod, too. The Rolaids Twins if there ever was one. But they threw HARD and had nasty stuff. You can accept a lack of control, with pitchers like that. CJ Wilson has neither of those traits, really.
  20. I've often considered this, but he just doesn't throw strikes enough to use him in an BP situation except mop up or maybe 6th inning in a close game. Too much chances of a dangerous walk or two in the 7th-9th.
  21. Does having a good team affect your enjoyment of the game? I cant support Arte's incompetence. Of course, it is much easier to avoid support from several hundred miles away and in a different country. But if I still lived in CA, I would go to see this very interesting Cubs team. For the Angels to succeed this year will take the collapse of two of these three teams; Houston, Texas and Seattle.
  22. Actually, in looking at the Wikipedia entry on Chickie Baby, they have a very good list of Chickisms, too. Maybe better. The one that I dont see mentioned (that I first heard from Chick) was the alley-oop shot. I was certain that was one of his making, but maybe not. Nowadays, announcers use alley-oop to describe the pass at rim height that is slam-dunked. Chick also used it to describe a shot that is usually lofted by a smaller player over a larger player. Similar, but not the same, as his "leapin' Lena" shot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick_Hearn Really, Chick was so good, that he was perfect for the "simulcast"; where an announcer's voice is used for radio and TV. You felt like you were watching the game on radio, when Chick was calling it. His diction, at the speed he spoke, was just incredible. He also started "losing it" a bit in the last 5 or so years. Well, he was 80. All of us will wish we could communicate like him, at that age. Final note; I have never seen it written, but I DID hear Chick put a game in the refrigerator that the Lakers lost. He was partnered with Stu Lantz at the time, and I couldnt belive that Stu didnt call him on it, during the post game show. Stu sometimes seemed to be "rooting" for the Lakers to lose a game that was "in the refrigerator", just to be able to call Chick out on it. Then, it happened, and he said nothing. I've often imagined that during the commercial break between the end of the game and the post game show, Chick turned to Stu and said, "dont you bring it up, you mo-fo". Chick had a big ego and was a strong personality. He was the face of the organization in many ways. You did what Chick said.
  23. Vinny's voice now has a certain "warble" to it, and he isn't quite as sharp. But he still announces rings around most other baseball announcers. If you have the MLB package or the Sirius/XM package, you can hear ALL the visiting teams announcers. Vinny is still top five, IMO. My favorite current baseball announcer is the Indians Tom Hamilton. We have been very fortunate, those of us who grew up in SoCal in the 60s-70s-80s. We were able to listen to the two finest announcers in ANY sport in Scully and Chick Hearn. As much as I love to hear Scully call games over the years. I dont think there has been a more influential announcer in ANY sport than Chick Hearn. So many of his Chickisms have become standards in describing basketball. And his interchange with his broadcasting partners (Hundley, Keith Erickson, Stu Lantz, Lynn Shakleford, even Pat Riley was his partner for a stint) was always entertaining, even if you sometimes felt Chicky Baby could be a bit of a dick. I sometimes thought to myself, "poor Marge" (his wife that he often referred to). Sorry for the bit of a hijack, but here is one of the most thorough list of Chickisms I have found, including their interpretations, Taken off an old "text only" board from way back. http://forums.lakersground.net/togo/thread.php?topic_id=53868
  24. Remember when he got beaned by that throw to second? I couldnt believe how long he was out, even wearing a helmet. That was Kotch, wasn't it, or am I having a Senile Moment.
