  1. My first, and only, Angels home games were June 14 and 15, 1986 against the Royals. I loved that team. I remember Wally Joyner hit a home run in that Saturday game and Halos won 6-5. Looking up the box score on BR tells me Don Sutton pitched 6+ innings and Doug DeCinces also homered. The Angels lost the Sunday game 6-5 and all I remember from that game is Dan Quisenberry coming in to close the game for the Royals. I don't know how many hours I spent in the backyard imitating his funky sidearm delivery.  Great memories!

Springer doesn't seem as likely since he seems to be zeroing in on the Northeast since he's from CT, but Ozuna has the Braves/Minasian connection. Still, if the Blue Jays and Mets are starting to spend money elsewhere, I suppose Springer could come back into play.

The Mets seem like the strongest candidate for Springer, their new owner is intent on spending money.  They just fired their GM this morning though so things may be slower on that front.  Cohen reminds me of Arti though, seems like he'll get involved when he wants something!

  3. Honest question, when Canning was shut down last August for the season with elbow inflammation, wouldn't the team have evaluated it then throughout the offseason?  Maybe the issue worsened as Canning worked out over the last 3 months and it became a significant issue this week.  Maybe the two are unrelated but it doesn't seem the case.  Same thing happened with the Yankee's Paxton where they tried painkillers for 3 months before opting for back surgery.  I'm not sure how involved the team is with players between seasons, anyone have insight?

It's a fair question because that's a shit ton of money for a long time.

One thing I think we'll see is escalating AAVs for the high end players.  So in a couple of years, that AAV won't look too bad.

If there is one player truly worth that kind of money, it's Trout.  He's actually worth more than that in terms of on field value.

He's an 8-9 win player.  A couple of 4-5 win players stand to make 30+ mil per for that same amount of time.

No one knows what will happen 6 or 7 years from now, but Trout is a pretty good player to bet on because of his skill set.

Agreed, it's a fair question.  It's kind of like the situation the Cardinals were in with Pujols.  Do you break the bank for a home grown, once in a generation talent and limit payroll options for 10 years?  I'd be much more inclined to do it for Trout though as Pujols was 32 when he came to the Halos and Trout is only 27 now.  Much less of a chance of being stung by the back end of that deal!  To me, he's the one guy in MLB you do it for.

  6. I'd go with:

    Griffey (Lock)

    Piazza

    Bagwell

    Hoffman

Will be interesting to see if Griffey is the first unanimous choice.  Still on the fence about Bonds and Clemens but their talent would have gotten them into the Hall without the PEDs, especially Bonds....
