  1. If they do hit rock-bottom, it'll mean a high draft pick.  They've been doing .500 regardless of the payroll for so long.  Finally have a chance at top talent in the Draft.

When your payroll and talent lags behind competitors, it leads to certain realities.  We know Rendon.  We know Trout.  If the others overachieve great, but the consensus is this is not a playoff-caliber team.  Ron Washington knows that.

It'll be a long season, but the realities of a rebuild with possible ownership change are looming.  Hopefully for the better.

  2. 70.  Ron Washington will manage the hell out of the team.

Wouldnt be surprised if pieces get traded or shutdown towards the end of the season.

Oakland in the division keeps Angels from being referenced as the last-place team.

String of .500 seasons has kept Angels from high draft picks.

This season may allow them to draft higher.

"There are so many potential crimes here, state and federal, and the big dangers with violating the anti-gambling laws is they're all written to go after organized crime, which means all the organized crime statutes can kick in, like RICO and money laundering," said Nelson, who has served as a government consultant to entities including the Arizona Department of Gaming, the Delaware State Lottery, the Illinois Gaming Board, the Michigan State Lottery and the New Mexico Gaming Control Board.

If Ohtani did knowingly wire the money to pay Mizuhara's debt, either to Mizuhara or directly to the bookie, he could be considered complicit in helping an illegal gambler collect, according to Nelson.

"In other words, he's helping the bookie collect the debt. It gets extraordinarily bad if he knew any of this was going on and agreed to it," Nelson said.

Odds of some plea deal to lesser crimes.  Cant imagine this goes to trial
