  1. i love the jayhawks and ttgg also. but there is something about "sound of lies" as it just gets better every time i play it. Gary Louris's voice works for me. i don't know how old you are but you never know, you may get the bug to just get out and play once life settles (in other words, when you get old, like me) Bakersfield has a real nice scene of 45-65 yr old guys/gals playing cover gigs and supporting each other's bands. kinda fun, no real competition, no illusions of grandeur. just hobby bands, i suppose.
  2. $4k is a bit much for me as well. kids in high school..... nice guitar, though. there is just something about the real wood martins that sing to me... i bought a recording king as an alternative to the 000-18 (about $1500.00 less ) and its a fun guitar, but not even close....
  3. i love the sound Gary Louris gets from his SG.. do you play out?
  4. I bought mine online at Elderly's. I have no regrets on that purchase. the J45 i have just got a little big as a couch guitar, so i wanted something smaller. i know that it's a fingerpicker, but i strum it with a pic. all my friends that play it want to own it...
  5. i remember when you posted that your husband was going to work for someone, gave some clues. i was the first to guess Stills....
  6. we both have 00-15's they are awesome little guitars. what's custom on yours? mine is just a plain jane version, but it is a gem.
  7. i played in an alt-country band for a long time, finally had enough in 2003. I took some time off and sold everything except a 1965 Gibson J45 that Johnny Cash had signed for me. I started dabbling again a few years ago when I was asked to open shows for Ryan Bingham, Jack Ingram, and about a year later, Willie Nelson. I started a cover band on the advise of the booker of the nicest venue in town, and we play there about 3 times a month. i have two Fender Telecaster Acoustasonics w/ aura systems built in so they sound like acoustic guitars, but play like electrics, for that gig. and i also have a 2007-ish Martin 00-15 that i use as a couch guitar. oh and a recording king ro-310 as a beater / campfire guitar. i hate practice too..... and i wish i had a Martin 000-18.
  8. Guitar acquisition syndrome - it's a guitar forum term meaning what guitar you dying to acquire.
  9. as suggested by sully151 so... what do you own, what do you play, where do you play it, and what are you gassing for? and what was the one guitar that you wish you had back?
  10. looks like he's coming to Bakersfield; think i'm having my nails done that day.......
  11. that was really well done...
  12. i saw Dawes at the Troubadour in December at the Mike Campbell merry minstrel show. they also backed up Jackson Browne, who was the highlight of the night. cool band.
  13. i agree with Jay. the record (yes, i'm old) Sheer Heart Attack is one long song to me. i'll only listen to it when i have the time to listen front to back. Ive always found it funny that they sell a "Brian May" guitar. who would in their right mind play that crazy sounding guitar unless you were in a Queen tribute band... i've listened to "Sheer Heart Attack" more times than any other record I've ever own. and yet, i play americana / country music. go figure.
  14. Well, we'll go to the kitchen and see if we've got one already froze
  15. just Blanton speculation, i suppose.....
  16. used to play this song in a band. had to quit playing it.... made me sad........
  17. fresno, denver, tucson. just another okie, i suppose........
  18. Lyle Lovett... all most folks know is that he was married to that spider monkey looking gal for a bit... very talented man.
