  1. Including DH, there are enough ABs to go around for Adell, Moniak and Hicks to all get enough ABs for them to show something. Maybe someone gets hurt. Maybe someone plays much better. Maybe someone plays much worse. it’ll work out. And they’re definitely not going to just toss away Suarez for nothing. He’s actually been decent in Arizona. (A scout I trust said he liked how he looked.) The guy is 26 years old and was good for 200+ innings in 21-22 and bad for about 30 in 23.
  2. As @BTH pointed out, I did just report this. Not directed at you, @jsnpritchett, but as a heads up for all of you, I am going to decrease the amount of this type of news that I report (for free) on Twitter. I want people to subscribe and read my stories. (Of course you guys get a free version of all of them here.)
  3. Teams almost never get insurance on contracts. It's too expensive and doesn't cover the stuff that happens mostly. But a player would need to submit to a physical if he wanted the contract.
  4. Or if he comes in with a 4-3 lead in the 6th and a runner at 3rd and no outs. He gets out all three hitters but the run scores on a fly ball. Blown save.
  5. It means they have a schedule of which situations/fundamentals they are going to focus on, and they handled some of them before the start of camp because everyone was there. For example, one day they do a whole thing on first and third bunt defenses, one day they do rundowns, etc.
  6. Yeah. There is a big difference between evaluating a player’s current value and evaluating his career. Once you put Buster Posey on there you’re pretty much saying you’re evaluating the career and not the current status, so having Trout 8th makes no sense.
  7. I did a ton of research on this last year and I don’t think there’s a difference between 4 and 5, but 6 starts to get problematic.
  8. I didn’t take this story to be a negative toward the Angels or Ohtani, but rather an acknowledgment that having Ohtani on your team leads to some distractions/complications/etc and now the Dodgers need to be prepared for that.
  9. He said they think Thaiss will be OK as the backup, but of course they’re always “open” to whatever presents itself.
  10. Fletcher has consistently said he doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with his hitting. Will be interesting to see if the Braves can convince him what the Angels couldn’t.
  11. The salary figures in the story were all for 2024. white is owed $8m in 25 and then buyouts of his options. Fletcher 6.5 in 24, 6.5 in 25 and then buyouts. Stassi 7.5 in 24
  12. I randomly picked some other players to look up.. Game-tying or go-ahead RBI, 7th inning or later, 2022-23 Freddie Freeman: 10 Mookie Betts: 16 Aaron Judge: 13 Ronald Acuna Jr: 9 Corey Seager: 12 Julio Rodriguez: 12 Manny Machado: 12 Paul Goldschmidt: 8 Yordan Alvarez: 11

  14. Obviously it's because they didn't think they would get him if they didn't. All of us can just guess whether they are right, but I tend to think they have more information on his market than we do.
  15. Just curious, but what is this opinion based on?
  16. I think in general an “offensive coordinator” deals with scouting reports from opposing pitchers and a hitting coach deals more with swing mechanics. But there is obviously some overlap.
  17. This is what I tell everyone. There are really 3 factors that determine where a FA plays: winning, comfort and money. I think everyone agrees that money is no 3 for Ohtani. If winning is No 1, it’s the Dodgers. If comfort is No 1, it’s the Angels. Difficult to see how another team could trump the Angels or Dodgers in those categories.
  18. Trout was actually a lot better in CF last season than in previous seasons. I was working on a story about it when he got hurt, so I never wrote it.
  19. Last I checked you can also get good odds on Mike Trout not being traded. When that nonsense began in September it was actually like +300 that he stays or something.
