Cowart looked like a different player in boston. He had a different swagger and poise. He looked like a vet. He is ready now. He needs to play for this team everyday.
-
Re-sign maybin. Dude is a beast. We havent had a LFer since anderson.
-
This team sucks. We wont win more than 73 games.
-
Solid move. Richards and shoe can step up later.
-
Would love to be him...be filthy rich, played in 2 WS, married a model, own businesses outside of baseball, and now gonna race cars for living. Dude won in life

Incredible series. Its crazy how good these rosters are and how young the players are.
these were the 2 best teams ive seen in the last 10 years aside from the 07 blowsox.
-
Cubs will win it all
-
No way doyers will let us sign jansen, esp after they lost grienke.
-
Your right. How about 1 new starter and 2 pen arms.
-
This is way too optimistic. The angels need 3 new starters to field even a respectable staff. The team needs at least one new elite bullpen arm. In addition, it still needs at least a 2B, if not also a LF if Marte cant fill that up. I would begin with the 3 starters and go from there.

I hope we can draft the next hudson mulder and zito and then we wont have to talk about whether we should have paid slightly above average players nearly 200m. Please baseball gods, we just need 3 more pitchers like that.
-
Heyward is garbage. Glad the franchise didnt waste on that. We need pitching. Lots of it.

Trout will be an old man by the time this franchise is in any position for the playoffs again
-
You guys seem to be happy with watching a great player even if the team doesnt end up winning rings.
Alot of those old guys didnt play in an era where free agency worked like it does now. Teams can spend and build up in so many ways, from FA to drafting to international scouting in asia latin america shit even australia. Thats why, if Trout doesnt win anything, alot of it has to be on the franchise. There are multiple ways to improve - this org has failed in all of them.

Ruined his career? I'd like to put this up for worst post of the year.
Yeah man. After this season, the angels will avg about 83 wins per season since he came up. Barely average.
Couple that with the fact the next 2 seasons look incredibly bleak...you are talking probably 7 seasons in with one mvp award and probably just the one playoff appearance.
I will gladly accept the post of the year award though. Wait till I give my acceptance speech.
-
If trout were on a competent organization, he would be in line for probably his 3rd mvp. He would pretty much be on a Jordan trajectory. Instead, he will still just have the 1. The angels ruined his career.

Simple. The core of the 2009 team left (Lackey, Fishing, Vladdy). Add the disaster of Brandon Wood and Morales breaking his leg. Bobby Abreau was a disappointment in year. It is funny I remember a thread debating who should the Angels offer a contract Vladdy or Abreau and most picked Abreau. Vladdy only had an All Star year the following year. His replacement Matsui only hit well after the Angels were eliminated.
Now add the fact that they relied on Morales to only be out for one year (why else would they trade Napoli who played a lot of 1b in 2010) and it took him two years.
By the time the offensive weaknesses were solved the pitching collapsed in second half in 2011 I believe.
Oh one more component. Our bull pen stunk every year but one.
Like I said....simple
That doesn't sound that simple to me. Sounds like a lot of stuff happening at once, from core members leaving, to freak injuries, to some of the most idiotic FO moves ever made (Napoli trade for Wells, getting Matsui instead of extending Vlad), to a continually crap bullpen (outside of 2014). Like I said...only a franchise as inept as the angels could have peaked in the same year they drafted the best player of the next generation, and then nosedived so badly and for so long.
But this has happened before in other sports. I think back to the Pistons winning the ring back in 04, and having a solid core going forward, and having the opportunity to draft Carmelo Anthony and instead picking Darko Milicic. But in their case, they didn't pick Melo, so they deserved what they eventually got (being supplanted by Cleveland). In our case, we actually peaked, got the best player, and still F'd it all up. Damn.
-
Reading your words makes this downfall even more ludicrous. You just posed that the team's peak in 09, and then drafted the best player of this next generation right after, and THEN entered their downfall.
What other org could reach their peak, draft the best player and then enter a terrible phase? Only a franchise as dumb as the angels.
-
Imagine how many MVPs he would have if he were actually on a good franchise
-
I picked them to go to the WS. still think it happens.

nice game for Trout today.
But I still feel something spoiled what could have been a much cooler Trout. I want the Trout from the first 2 full seasons - the 30/30 guy who was also the fastest player in the game, and an insane on-base machine. A reincarnation of Ricky Henderson with more power.
Now we just have a really good slugger, who is also prone to a lot of strikeouts and an on-base thats lower than the first 2 seasons. While he's amazing now, he doesn't transcend the game like he used to.

This team is gonna suck bad this year and the lack of young talent will finally screw them bad

Gia was a lug head last year. About half the time MS was giving us his classic look of WTF, it was because of Gia.
I wanted us to upgrade at 2b because I didn't think there was any chance of him becoming a capable defender.
The early returns are that I am wrong.
One thing is for sure though. The kid can hit. I still think there is more bat there than we have seen. He had limited at bats as a 23 and 24yo because of his defense and that pretty much sank him. He then got almost no at bats in the majors for 2013 and 2014.
The guy was legit in the minors with the bat. From he time he was in AA, he's killed it. He's gonna hit .290 this year with more walks than k's and I think he's gonna end up in the leadoff spot or two hole.
I agree. I think he can be a poor mans dustin pedroia.
