  1. Going WAY back, reminds me of 1995. Around July they just started blowing out teams every night for weeks. (Cheating at Baseball Almanac I see a 15 game stretch where they scored 126 runs.)

Just before the roof caved in.

What was number-funny about this run is how it kept climbing, hit a peak, then barely tapered off. Run totals went 5, 7, 8, 14, then back the other way 12, 9, 8, 7. Then they ruined it by going back up to 11.

  2. It's been over 20 years but I'll do my obligatory Al Conin shout-out. Then Bob "Let me look that up" Starr.

Vic has grown on me, good action voice, good dry wit. Getting pretty pathetic that Terry Smith continues to close in on longest tenured Angel announcer totals (now standing at 13, needs three more years to eclipse Starr).

  3. Used the AOL board a little bit but mostly the Angel-run board. My first insight as to how nutbar the interweb could be was on that board with many a "eff you chili44 chilly (person misspelled it despite having written it correctly a second earlier) daves sucked and is a peace of sh!t and your a peice of sh!t!"

Later on attending the playoff get-togethers and trying not to laugh at the number of guys with "badass" something-or-other in their user names, only to see that they were five-foot nothing, 98 pound dweebs. And, of course, the incomparable Justin.

  4. Same recollections. The only OC attack out in tranquil Mission Viejo was about a half mile from our house and scared the double-shit out of our housing tract. All us kids kept thinking he was gonna come back and do it again. There was an abandoned house we used to dare each other to go into, saying, "The Night Stalker's in there!" And being a gullible kid -- and before The Night Stalker moniker stuck -- they were calling him The Intruder, The Invader, The Night Prowler, The Valley Slasher...

So I thought five different guys were running around slaying people.

  5. I know this thread is just some bullshit rant, but I had steadfastly maintained on the "old" board and many others, a demand for middle relief/closer. 47 blown saves in two years (32 of which were converted into losses) and they shoot their wad on a couple of wrong-side-of-30 sluggers? Spread those dead presidents over a relief core akin to the one in '09. You already had Kendrys, Trumbo, Trout and Segura on the way; dumping Napoli, etc. But this franchise is famous for high-priced mistakes (Reggie in his twilight, dumping Parker for Bichette, Langston had one good year, the great Moo experiment....).

    My jagoffedness lies elsewhere.

  6. Dodger Land is the worst for in-between pitch noise. Either CLAP CLAP CLAP your hands, Nancy Bea with "dun dun dun dun" CLAP CLAP, CLAP CLAP CLAP, or The Ramones "Hey, ho, let's go!" or CLAP...CLAP...CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP...CLAP CLAP....after every *** damn pitch.

So nice to enjoy the quiet when they were in the field.

  7. Even the Disney remodel is archaic. Their cartoonish design of oversized helmets and thunder mountain-ish themes was dumb, even at the time. An attempt at turning a ballpark into an amusement park.

What else can you do to the surrounding area that you haven't already? You've got the Grove; at least they kept The Catch local; and don't forget the key to the integrity, the Hooters. The stadium's nearly 50 years old, quit trying to dress up a relic. My personal favorite is the one everyone hated, the Rams/Angels hybrid, only because that's where I grew up watching baseball.

So I only have two requests:

    1. Go back to the California Angels.

    2. Bring back the red seats and dump those god-awful stupid green things. Would fit in the team color, anyway.

  8. AO, thanks for the inspiration.

Scioscia by way of mentor, Lasorda: "This f'n job, is not that f'n easy!" Or Bob Knight: "I forgotten more about this f'n game than you people combined are ever gonna know, and I'm tellin' you this is not a very good basketball  baseball team!"

    "Talkin' bout chicken sh--!"

"Bevacqua  Hamilton couldn't hit water if fell out of a f'n boat!"

I can hear Arte saying "Who goofed, I've got to know!"

Myron for Conger tonight: "Big play from the defense, huh!"

Angels on visiting Houston: "We didn't come to act monkeys for everybody!"

Geoff, nice bear. Reminds me of Garbage Pail Kids back in the day.
