  1. Question is how could they not? Even if they weren’t cheating in 2019 bit now this is hanging over them and all the questions and firings. They are human still, even if crappy ones, and this has to have an effect.
  2. Punishment is historic but I wish it had gone further. Hinch seems like he was against it but not willing to report his own players. Tough spot to be in, but he didn’t have the strength of character to do much but be passive aggressive. I mean breaking two monitors instead of talking to Luhnow or MLB is weak. I think he will be hired by someone after the suspension or a year later at most. Luhnow is a jerk and deserves all he gets. The culture he created and supported was destined to create this. I think it’ll take him longer to get back. The caveat here is that his knowledge is gonna be highly prized by someone. Don’t think he ever makes GM again though. Cora is done. I think he gets lifetime suspension from baseball. He designed the system in Houston. He is most culpable. He will have culpability in Boston and that is gonna be all it takes to come down hard on him. Boston’s cheating happened after being caught, after a warning, and in 2018. Since Houston sounds like it was only proved in 2017 and they got this much Boston is gonna be hammered and Cora even more so for both situations. He gone!
  3. It was behaving linearly until 2016. Many teams were behaving in a way that wasn’t optimal. Statisticians knew that wasn’t right but teams were behaving as they always behaved. But now teams are catching on and the markets starting to reflect that.
  4. There are a lot of threads about players to trade for and what we could send to get whom. There have been a lot about players we could’ve signed that have been discussed ad naseum. Below is a recent post on fangraphs about the cost of a win and how teams are valuing players and I believe it adds a bit understanding to all these decisions being made across baseball. I think this piece helps to explain why teams would waive certain players nobody historically would expect to be waived. It also helps explain the value of players to be exchanged in trades. It is a short read. Basically, until 2016 the value of a player could be seen based on a dollar amount per the number of wins they were projected to add to a team, expressed in WAR. The value was static whether you provided a small boost or a large boost it was similar for average and above average players. 1 win got you $9 million and 3 got you $27 million in free agency. Over the past 3 years that is changing. If you provide 2+ wins per year you are still very very valuable, but if you provide less than 2 your value drops off. Teams seem to feel like getting an average guy to fill a spot in free agency isn’t that difficult and is frankly cheaper in the market now. They still value getting a legitimately above average guy to fill a spot but he better really be above average. Another note, above average relievers are valued on a bit different scale. Going forward it could help provide an idea how teams value our prospects and what they are looking for in a trade. For example, an above average player is worth more than just a bunch of average players that are equal in seeming value because of the value the single player adds to one roster spot, i.e. a 3 win player is worth a lot more than two 1.5 win players. Just interesting stuff here applicable to all the other threads about player trades and signings on the board. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/is-the-cost-of-a-win-in-free-agency-still-linear/
  5. Just can’t see how Manfred doesn’t take the Red Sox cheating personally and come down hard on them.
  6. I always thought that comes out after the season each year??
  7. Sometimes I just get tired of his act and figure someone needs to try to shut him up. His chicken little act is irritating. Is there a way to hide all posts from one person? @Chuckster70?
  8. Arrogant- having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities: hmm, what did I say that had anything to do with me or my abilities? I challenged someone who is talking, without knowledge or any info except his own pessimism, to look at facts. I challenged a person who is just spouting non-sense to look at what professionals and experts are saying about our team. The same experts that predicted we wouldn’t be good in the past and were right. These same experts are predicting different things about our offense now, nearly unanimously. Any one expert could be wrong but when they are all basically in agreement that is not likely to be wrong at all. I challenged someone, who has already responded with the fact he doesn’t care what any experts say he believes what he believes. “There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance - that principle is contempt prior to investigation.” This is what i see happening and so to break through that you demand he investigate. He didn’t and will never because he enjoys being a pessimist. He claims to be a realist but so do most pessimists. I am confident in the answers I suggested he look into. Maybe that’s what you’re calling arrogance. Confidence and truth are what I’m projecting, not sure what you’re seeing.
  9. Based on anyone who can really project next year’s stats we have a top 5 offense. I triple dog dare you to pull up any of the publicly available projection systems, even ZiPs which is notoriously conservative, and find one where your prediction is even close. I mean where we are even 9th in the league in offense. Seriously try that. When you fail, because you will, Come back and apologize for your stupidity. Then strive to be a more realistic person, which I know is a lot to ask of you.
  10. I’ll bite, green seems the obvious choice of these three. Now I assume you’re gonna tell me that green is either someone in our minor league system or someone nobody wants to trade for. After all that’s usually how this game works, right?
  11. If Price’s contract is paid down to around $20-$22 million per year then I think it is worth it. Not a lot different then signing Ryu would’ve been.
  12. So what’s the price for Price again?
  13. A friend of mine told me today. He has a couple of people in the front office he knows. Wasn’t sure how reliable they were. Guess they weren’t.
  14. Heard the mystery team is Texas. Also heard Dodgers are out and us and Texas are the only two still seriously in. Interesting if true.
  15. Heard an interesting rumor that Maldy had a 3 year offer from Eppler and they were surprised he went to the Astros for less money and years. Strange info. Kind of hard to believe but reports were he took less to go to Houston.
  16. Don’t forget it looks like Felix Pena is getting out back into the pen and that will strengthen it even more.
  17. Those upset with this signing, how many of you were excited about us getting Hansel Robles last year? .... nobody? ... that’s what I thought. it’s a low cost flier, could be good, could be a bust. Costs us almost nothing.
  18. Shohday is back! I love the idea that Sunday can be fun day with Ohtani!
  19. Isn’t there some predictive theory coming off of the statcast data? I feel like I’ve been reading about expected stats based off batted ball data. I haven’t been following it closely. I wonder if that info would help better predict someone like Tehran.
  20. Ah, I didn’t watch the presser and just assumed. I assumed the difference in look had to do with age.
  21. I thought I read that the Dodgers weren’t given a chance to counter offer the Yankees winning bid. Does anyone know if that’s true? I wonder if Cole considered the Angels and Dodgers but all things being equal in their offers he preferred the Yankees for reasons beyond the fact they had a better chance to win the WS? It just seems like keeping that sign is a little crazy if you really didn’t like the team a lot. It appears from the outside like he wanted a great contract and once the team he preferred offered it to him it didn’t really matter what the other teams offered that was gonna be good enough. Just my thoughts.
  22. The deal was already reported and confirmed by the time Jeff tweeted this out on Sunday. By the time Jeff’s tweet came out the entire deal was reported, even though it wasn’t yet official. That’s how this works in baseball twitter, deals are announced by reporters a few days before they are officially announced. I’m explaining that to you because you seem to not understand that. So, as you dig a deeper hole of foolishness for yourself, answer this question, why would Jeff make this report up after already knowing the information you are pointing to as proving his post wrong? Do you think he doesn’t know that they got major league ready talent and that we were offering minor leaguers? Do you think he doesn’t understand the trade market? Basically Do you think that Jeff doesn’t know the industry he is PAID to report on? Does that sound like a very smart post to you?
