  1. This article fills in all the other absurd things you may not already know.
  2. Altuve is shy and doesn’t want his team tearing off his jersey at ALCS. Let’s take a look at the last two seasons... Edited: typos
  3. Posted that in its own thread last night with a short written run down of about half of it.
  4. For those who aren’t aware of all the events of this video here’s A summary of about 60% of them.
  5. Just watched a Yes Network interview with Jomboy and he describes an app made to decode pitcher’s signs in 5 pitches. So maybe a computer can be used to break sign sequences. It was tweeted out today.
  6. This but of humor is spot on and after a the week baseball has been having this is certainly worth the watch. As a side note it may clue you in to the things you’ve missed about the dumpster fire going on right now. Enjoy
  7. Again I thought the teams cheating were using the video room to decode just those type of signs given by catchers? I guess teams can go the route of the Nationals and change up signs multiple times a game and have endless complex signs but wouldn’t that even slow the game down more? Also wouldn’t that also cause more cross ups to happen and possible injuries or extra bases given? I get that is a human decoding those signs but with enough money teams will hire better code breakers and we have a new arms race, right?
  8. At this point all that is left is a video of a little boy walking up to Altuve saying, “Say it ain’t so Jose, say it ain’t so.”
  9. The tech to steal signs via real time video just wasn’t available back then. They could watch tape but only after the game, not during. This type of cheating requires access to real time video of the game you’re playing in. I’m betting this type didn’t occur until the 2000’s at the earliest and likely the 2010’s.
  10. A lot of teams were doing it so it is hard to determine how tainted it is. But this particular problem began when replay started. It is directly related to the increase in availability of real-time video footage to the team on the field. It has a likely start date of 2014. No need to hand wave this as having gone on forever.
  11. Isn’t that what they are using the replay room for, to decode those signs so that runners on second can relay it to the hitter? I thought that those complicated signs and changing signs was what was slowing the game down too? I read that The Nationals had a series of complicated signs they used in the WS versus Houston. Those signs may work but they can slow the game down. I guess I’m just confused by your suggesting with the state of the investigation already?
  12. Umm, a lot of the current slow down is complicated signs and changing signs so the signs aren’t stolen. So yeah.
  13. The problem with wireless earpieces is the catcher’s talking to the pitcher will be heard by the batter. They are just too close for the batter to not hear. I think replacing the major league rubber on the mound with one that has lights embedded in it is a possibility but there are other complications with that. I prefer the digital devices on the wrist the pitcher and catcher that the catcher can send messages to the pitcher on. That seems like a better silent solution.
  14. I have negotiated contracts but this isn’t an as hominem argument. When the value of a contract a with player opt outs is determined it always, always makes the contract less valuable. Simply think of the situation, if the player is playing poorly he will opt in to get more money. If the player is playing well he will opt out and get more money. The advantage is always to the player. If the player is doing well the team wants to keep him but now has to pay more. If he’s playing poorly they want to get rid of him or pay him less and they aren’t able to. Arguing that player opt outs are ever advantage to the team is just silly. It was reported he didn’t want it and they suggested it, it was a win/win for him so why not. The Rockies are not well run. I don’t follow them closely but the baseball analysts I follow constantly make fun of their decision making process. They just don’t make long term decisions well at all. This is a case in point.
  15. The athletic articles about this are pointing out that the camera feeds are available wirelessly on many devices. I’ll try to grab the link to the article but they said the feeds were available to anyone with password access in the stadium which is why the monitor in the relay room was insufficient.
  16. Smart? Nope. The opt out limits his trade value and the value of the contract to the opt out date. Since they are trading him less than one year later they seriously hamstrung themselves on the trade market. Player opt outs are usually only given if a player negotiated for it and only benefit the player, never the club. If your logic held up then more teams would be doing it to improve player performance. That is such a stretch.
  17. The funny thing about the opt out is it has been said Arenado didn’t want the opt out and that was something the Rockies front office suggested be put in. It was literally their front office’s own idea and they made this whole mess themselves. They are literally trying to beat out Baltimore for worst front office in baseball.
  18. So you assume all cameras of today are big enough to see and can’t be easily concealed. Not to mention other options, their replay guy already had access to the center field camera in place in Dodger stadium for replay reviews. Patching in a relay of that feed would even be an easier option. These guys were already deep into cheating why wouldn’t they go all in on game 7?
  19. Surreptitiously setting a WiFi enable camera in center field. Wouldn’t be that hard to do on the road. I don’t think they only cheated at home. If it was working do you think they just said, “well these half of the games we just give up. Oh and the single most important game of the year we just will leave to chance.” Doubt that.
  20. Hinch issues an apology and Luhnow distances himself and blames everyone else. A tale of two people for sure.
  21. Interesting perspective on the rot in Houston here. https://newrepublic.com/amp/article/155863/houston-astros-cheaters-2017-world-series-mckinsey-problem?__twitter_impression=true
  22. Ouch! This is one has to hurt, especially for Yu. Nobody could find how he was tipping last I heard. He has to be furious!
