  1. true, but . . . esh. not exactly awe-inspiring if the best they can do is upgrade one position to mediocre. Again, reserving judgment . . .
  2. "part of the solution" so the solution is to run a pu pu platter of mediocrity out there every day?
  3. yeah, if this is for anything other than a bench/4th OF role, it's pretty horrible. Reserving judgment to see what else the FO gets done this week. But one eyebrow partially raised . . .
  4. I agree that trading Wilson COULD be a big mistake. I don't like or trust the guy overall, but it's hard to argue that he's been a stable presence in a very young rotation, and I would agree our SP isn't quite as deep as people want to think it is. I don't think he'll necessarily be a vital part of the team's playoff run - I think he'll actually be more instrumental in making sure the Angels get to the playoffs.
  5. I'd be into this idea for anything less than Newcomb.
  6. No DL stints. In fact the most major thing was the nasty flu he caught in ST of what would become his rookie year. Apparently he lost like 10-15 pounds and it set him back a couple weeks. Other than that, last year he was out a handful of games with back issues, which was scary, but ended up being no big deal. Kid has been lucky, but also seems to have a knack for self-preservation, while still playing hard.
  7. I don't want any part of Puig and I hope the Angels' FO feels the same. He makes Jose Guillen seem like a level-headed guy.
  8. As long as Hamels and Price are still available, I can't imagine the Doyers are too excited about CJ. He's sort of a mid-rotation guy, and they have the prospects and money to go get a frontline starter. CJ would be kind of a consolation prize for them.
  9. Since it sounds like he'll basically cost us nothing, I don't think it's the worst idea in the world. However, I'd be a lot more excited by it if Utley was a 3B or LF. Gia has been pretty solidly mediocre all year, and I think it's a longshot that Utley is even that. I'd hate to see them take ABs away from Gia just to see if they can catch lightning in a bottle with Utley.
  10. "a season-long slump that saw him batting just .215 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs with a month remaining in the season." haha it speaks to how unbelievably awful Joyce has been that I see those numbers and think, 'hey that's not bad!'
  11. Yeah, I'm sure that's the logic they're using. And hey, if by some chance he is able to recapture even a sliver of his old self, that's a meaningful addition to the lineup and could be useful in the playoffs.
  12. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/24/the-angels-are-monitoring-chase-utley/ Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports that the Angels have “been monitoring the rehab” of Chase Utley. Utley has been trying to come back from inflammation in his right ankle and may be back soon. I said at the beginning of the season that Utley could be an interesting target later in the season, as he's a former UCLA guy and I'm sure would want to play for a contender. Then he went and had an awful first half of the season and got hurt yet again. Sure seems like he's toast. He was truly great once, and I guess there's always a chance he could recapture some of that, but at this point I don't think it's a safe bet that he could even duplicate the modest numbers Giavotella is putting up.
  13. oh wow, I didn't realize that! Would be nice to take all 6 then
  14. seconded. I don't love Cespedes long term, but I think he could be a useful rental for this year if the price is right. In fact, he's probably more appealing to me than Bruce, due to his familiarity with the AL West.
  15. Kind of cool that we effectively ended their season. They've been somewhat irrelevant all year though. What would REALLY be cool is if we can take all 4 from los doyers this year.
  16. wait, is this a serious post? did you just start off by pointing to a 12 at-bat sample size?
  17. I understand your point, but I think it's much different when you're talking about a SP as compared to a position player - a 2B at that.
  18. just curious - they have to wait until every single person clears out of the stadium after this game before they can let anybody in for the second game, right? I guess thankfully there's all of 37 people at this game right now.
  19. for anyone with some time on their hands, SOSH is pretty hilarious these days.
  20. man, pretty much an ideal scenario for the first game of a double dip. Clobber the other team early and get a chance to rest some of your regulars. If only Hector could have gone longer, but oh well.
  21. this time of year, any team with a glaring need is automatically "linked" to every name out there. agreed re: the BP arm. Will be interesting to see how Rasmus looks. He could be an important piece.
  22. I don't know why so many people are in such a hurry to get rid of Wilson. Dude has been pretty solid for us this season.
