  1. That's not what y'all were saying after that one game earlier this year where the umps gave Mariano Rivera a strikezone the size of Texas.
  2. The bigger problem is that now our GM has this philosophy about our pitching staff...
  3. Same reason he's the ~3rd worst defender (bWAR) in baseball:
  4. FWIW I think the A's will regress in the next couple years. but the Astros and Mariners will get much better. Angels will be in the cellar.
  5. Last year Trout was by far the leader in baseball reference dWAR. From what I understand a huge fraction -- possibly even most -- of that total was due to the fact that stat gives excessive amounts of credit to home run robberies. Last year he had 4 home run robberies. This year he actaully assisted two balls in going over the wall which would have otherwise remained in the park.
  6. Fangraphs has him at +0.06 ( ( Fielding + positional )/10 )
  7. I miss the days when on paper this team was going to make up for thin pitching with dominating offense and impeccable defense
  8. The sad thing is we have $50M/year worth of players who are more valuable to the team on the DL than they are in the roster
  9. The real idiots were the ones who added Hamilton to the team
  10. In Shuck's case a couple fans at least tried to cushion his fall. In wells situation most of the fans near the wall had their back to Wells watchin the ball sail over their heads only to turn around and see him on the ground with a puzzled "oh, look it's Vernon" expression
  11. He still has a long way to go to catch Greinke* though *I'm only referring to WAR as a result of batting...
  12. Does anyone here actually believe Walden would have delivered these numbers w/ Butcher as pitching coach?
  13. I still think Bourjos' catch in Baltimore was the best Angels defensive play this year
  14. After we missed out on Greinke I had little objection to Moreno/Dipoto doing almost nothing last offseason. Turns out that would have been a better result than the whole Hamilton situation (We might have had the financial flexibility to make a move for a positoin of need, like pitching)
  15. Agree. Even if they wanted to limit his pitch count for the year they should have spaced out his starts a bit more throughout the entire year with occasional bullpen games or spot starts, instead of using him at normal pace then shutting him down early. That way they might still have him around in the playoffs.
  16. Given our luck as Angels fans this year, it will be a Dodgers v Rangers world series
  17. of teams still in contention: AL: Indians or Orioles NL: Pirates
  18. Problem with taking away wins is IMO the history of the sport could end up turning into a joke like what is happening in Cycling. A huge fractions of the the wins in major races have been vacated.
  19. Under the current rules it would be in the Angels' financial best interest to "find" some PED's in Pujols' or Hamilton's locker...
  20. A stat which is informally taken into account by MVP voters MVP will be a two man race between Cabrera and Chris Davis.
