I've been a fan since I was old enough to have an interest, I'd say since 1980 or so when I was 8.  I can clearly remember the 82 playoffs and was lucky enough to go to one of the home games. There wasn't much to be excited about from 88-94, that was a rough period. At least the late 90's had some exciting talent coming out of the system. It was fun watching Salmon, GA, Edmonds, Disar, and that group play, even though they never won anything in that decade. What makes the current era the worst one (and by a lot IMO) isn't just the expectation of winning with the continuous let down of then losing.  It's that 2002-2009 was such a tease. It seemed like the organization had figured it out.  We were becoming a model organization that was a perennial winner with an owner who would spend and seemed to let the baseball people do the baseballing. The system provided continuous talent.  There seemed to be an organizational plan. Stability in the front office and the on field manager. Then we drafted Trout and the future looked that much brighter.  Was Stoneman retiring the catalyst for the unraveling? Was Arte always a meddling owner and those years of success were just the residual product of what Disney did before he bought the team? Having the two most talented Angels of all time during the worst period just compounds the frustration.  It feels like the only way out of the current situation is to burn it all to the ground and start from scratch.

WOW, it's like i wrote this!  Same time frame in my start at being a fan of this team.  Good stuff halodground!  I thought (after Dave Henderson broke our hearts in 1986) 1987-2001 was a dark period but we at least were building from within and it netted a WS title.  1995 hurt but being 1 strike away in '86 was way worse, IMO.  The 2000's brought us to a new era and winning was becoming normal, as were expectations.  One playoff appearance since 2009 hurts and now I can confidently say the 2010-2024 run is the darkest period because there actually is no sign of hope.  I think we've had every bad thing happen to us in that time frame and it just continues.  Scandals, deaths, bad drafts, bad scouting, failing 2 generational talents....something good has to be on the horizon, right?  RIGHT???!  ugh

Or sell and tank. They should be taking offers now, but don't really have much to sell - except for guys they'd want to keep. So right now the hope is that guys like Ward, Anderson and the relievers play well enough that they can be flipped for prospects in July. I mean, except for maybe 6-8ish guys in the entire org, everyone is expendable.

I’m down with that order of operations and agree on keeping the future core intact.  How many picks in the top 100 will we have?

  3. Thanks Chuck, I’m new to AW but love this forum.

It’s almost as if MLB media was completely pushing for this.  If Arte pulled off the “great deferral,” how many of these “journalists” would be calling for an investigation?

it hurts to be an Angels fan right now but my dignity means more and I’m not abandoning 40 years of fandom now for the new shiney toy.  Dodger fan who used to cry about what Yankees were doing, enjoy the ride if you can.

let’s sell and turn this organization into a baseball development machine already.
