  1. That's some kind of lottery ticket. From making plans for 4 weeks from now, to playing for the team which is going to have Home Field advantage for as long as they're in the Playoffs.
  2. Those are some mighty impressive words of inspiration right there. I mean, engrave them on a plaque and place it right above the locker room doors.
  3. Trout will be on the team next year. Count on it. All this speculation is pointless. There's gonna be enough fallout to last several years when Ohtani walks for nothing. The idea that the Angels will compound that by even giving the slightest indication that their only other marketable player is going away, especially with the Angels likely having to eat a large chunk of his contract to do it, is ridiculous. They may not even have to reduce the price of any remaining Ohtani merch. There will probably be enough demand to sell what they need to before he makes his departure official.
  4. The current owner is not going to trade Mr. Trout. Certainly not on the heels of losing Ohtani for nothing. There's simply no way he'll eat a sizable portion of his contract, which is at the very least, what it would take for other teams to be interested. Now if ownership were to change, all bets are off. A new owner, already having paid 2.5+ Billion to purchase the franchise, would not think twice about tossing away the amount of money necessary to move Mr. Trout. Especially if they decided to tear things down and start from scratch. But it seems extremely unlikely, that when Trout becomes the face of the franchise again, with Shohei gone, that the Angels are going to want him gone as well.
  5. Actually, thanks to the Angels, no longer the worst team. Today's win puts them ahead of Kansas City.
  6. The A's fans paying to attend games deserve this. You want to look at a fan base that is being traumatized, it's theirs.
  7. This team really needs to change it's name. I don't think they're necessarily as bad as their record this year or any other year the past decade. But they damn well have some incredibly awful luck, and it's not a halo over their heads, it's a dark, dark rain cloud.
  8. Well, they're in good company. According to tv announcers, only other team swept by Oakland were the Orioles.
  9. With no more Shohei, Mike is going to be the only really marketable player on the team that has the capability of drawing in the fans. He'll be good for 2-3 bobblehead and 3 or 4 t-shirt/jersey nights per season alone. There's no chance he gets traded, and what team is going to take on his contract given his recent difficulty in playing anything close to a full season.
  10. Sensible, but as several have already stated, this scenario is highly unlikely given the current owner.
  11. So the Angels pay a 20% tax for going over this season, and if they exceed the threshold for a second straight year in 2024, they pay a 30% tax. The tax becomes 50% for the third consecutive season over the threshold. Also, when the Angels lose Shohei Ohtani, having already made him a qualifying offer, they now will receive a compensation pick after the fourth round rather than the second round, which would have been the case if they had been under the threshold. Brilliant!
  12. He's a wealthy POS, and he couldn't care less. He's a Narcissist, just like the guy he openly supports. At some point, he'll parachute out with a Huge profit on his investment. That's really all that matters to him. Unlike the former mayor of Anaheim, who just plead guilty in court, he has enough money and power to make himself immune from criminal prosecution. But I'm guessing he was involved up to his eyeballs in the criminal activity which went on.
  13. What Ohtani does in the off season? Ohtani is going to another team. I honestly don't think his injury changes that one bit. Winning is still what's important to him, nothing has changed in the past week. Winning is not something that is realistic if he stays in Anaheim. The only question at this point is, whether someone is going to offer him a mind blowing long-term deal, or he'll have to wait a little longer, and sign for perhaps 2 years, and wait out his recovery from TJ surgery. If he's going to DH for the next 1-2 seasons, why would he want to do that for a Below .500 team like the Angels, when almost certainly, better options will present themselves.
  14. Assuming that he wants anything to do with this organization.
  15. I still don't entertain any offer from the Angels, if I'm Ohtani. I take the salary hit, and go to a contender. A team that has actually made the Playoffs more than once in the last decade. If it's all about Winning for him, I get out of Dodge as quickly as I can, because that ain't happening here. His term with the Angels basically ended with an injury that possibly crippled his career.
  16. Trout & Judge are both 2-way players, and contribute in other ways. They're not simply designated hitters.
