  1. I've warmed to this like a camp fire in the freezing fucking cold
  2. Maybe we just drafted the best bat in the draft dudes? Just saying..
  3. There isn't a lot of college hitting in this year's Draft class, and the college catching crop is particularly thin. But Thaiss's ability with the bat, coming from a strong Virginia program, has him poised for early-round consideration. Thaiss has long impressed with the bat. His 10 home runs as a sophomore, while playing in a pitching-friendly home park, led the Cavaliers as they won the College World Series. He has an advanced approach at the plate and solid power, especially on the extra-base front, though he should have some over-the-fence pop at the next level. He's continued to be very consistent at the plate as a junior, though there are many questions about his ability to stay behind it as a pro. His catching skills are quite raw, with a fringy arm and rough receiving skills. Teams might want to send Thaiss out as a catcher; those that do might consider him in the opening round. But his bat alone -- and he has played first base at times -- should make him a day one selection.
  4. Is Rutherford that much better than Kirilloff?
  5. Going to be funny if Rutherford and Kirilloff are there and the Angels select a catcher most had on their board in the 5th round.
  6. Arte is? He has nothing to do with trading minor leaguers btw..That's on the GM. If anything, he only gets involved when signing a big $$$ FA, not trades.
  7. I wish we could move up and draft him. I'd trade a few Rondons.
  8. I would have to agree. I mean, unless the catcher can hit and catch/throw/frame like a rockstar, I'd rather use the 3rd rounder for a defensive wizard.
  9. Found this while looking through the old website archives. All of us old timers will remember this one. Also, does anyone recall our old homepage? If you remember this song used to load whenever you went to www.AngelsWin.com Feel free to download this song and save to your device. Would make a good ringtone! Go Angels angelsfightsong.mp3
  10. Latos has allowed 29 earned runs over his last 36 innings.
  11. Never look at ERA when evaluating pitchers in the AAA. Heaney, Skaggs, Shoemaker and many others got pounded there before their promotion.
  12. I remember you being against the Trumbo pick and him ever being a productive major leaguer, but Bane stood by his scouting that he'd be a power hitting major leaguer down the road.
  13. Oh no, I'm sure he will after the draft. I'm just asking the question.
  14. Yep. The thing is, Rick Wilson has a lot to prove. How many of his 1st rounders or even top 5 picks in each of his last drafts since taking over from Eddie Bane have been productive major leaguers?
  15. Well.... So do really know that no other team had Ward on their board around our pick @hangin n wangin? Also, if a team scouts thousands of players and their #1 pick on their board is like ranked 200th on Baseball America's board, who is right? Nerds behind computers or actual scouts that watch these kids play on multiple occasions?
  16. I wonder who made the call for this decision? I mean, I have ZERO problem with picking guys who the so-called experts have farther down in their rankings, the Seattle Seahawks have been doing this since Pete Carroll's reign up here and they've been successful. But, was this a decision made by 1. Scioscia (because he loves catchers) 2. Dipoto (because he wanted to fuck the Angels before quitting) or 3. Arte (because he wanted to sign someone cheap?) or 4. Ric Wilson and his scouts (because they either saw something in this kid they really liked or they do not know how to scout). Either way, it is WAY TOO EARLY to be calling Taylor Ward a bust. He's in his first full season in the minors and he looked really good on both sides of the game in his first taste in Low-A ball last year after being drafted.
