Better.
We have a good platoon DH situation. We have a deeper starting pitching staff and our bullpen is locked and loaded going into the start of the regular season.
What don't you get?
Grant Green has a .309/.357/.473 slash line in the minors, has Howie Kendrick type pop, will club a lot of doubles.
Hit over .270 in both of his cups of coffeew with the Angels in 2013 & 2014.
He's athletic and while he's not Kendrick defensively, he's not that bad. Looked good on a few double plays I've seen and going to his right to snatch a ball up the middle, planted and threw a bullet to first base ala HK. Seen him make a few diving plays in the infield as well.
Seriously, I don't understand what's not to like. He's going to get his first real chance to be a fulltiime starter. Let's see how he does, but he's definitely earned the job.
I agree with Adam. Cron doubles his at bats from 2014 in '15, becomes the primary designated hitter in 2016, part time 1B.
In my talks with Dipoto, they really like Cron's bat and his ability to drive in runs.
In a straight platoon, Jeff is correct.
Joyce will not face many if any lefties in 2015. His lifetime slash line against lefties is Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggly.
Loving our bullpen even more after this move.
Jepsen drove me nuts.
Street, Smith, Pestano, Morin, Rasmus, (LHP) Ramos, Bedrosian, Gott, Salas, McBryde & Reynolds/Snodgress.
We have no backup as it is to Freese, Lucho was let go. We have no depth at 3B. I seriously doubt we will even pick up the phone for calls about Freese now.
Garrett Richards, Jered Weaver, Matt Shoemaker, Andrew Heaney, Tyler Skaggs with Sean Newcomb, Hector Santiago & Sum Yung Gui also vying for a spot out of ST.
With Weaver possibly gone after 2016, Matt Shoemaker would be the oldest on our staff.
Excited to see Newcomb, Heaney and Skaggs all in the rotation at the same time in '17.
