Re: catcher…
If you can nab a vet backstop on the cheap, go for it. Keep Wallach, vet, and Thaiss for now. Thaiss kicks Stefanic or Escobar off the roster for now. Give him a breather, he’s never caught this volume before and has to be running on fumes, and his offense at least reflects that. He can get the occasional start behind plate, serve as a PH, and take some of Escobar’s playing time. Keep Wallach for now to maintain depth until O’Hoppe is activated.
When Logan returns, Wallach can be DFAed and maybe he slips through to AAA and resumes being the ‘first guy up’ if anyone gets hurt.
Vet experience behind the plate is big this time of year.
That is why I want to keep Wallach been with staff all year. You can get a catcher on minor league deal, I;m Okey with that.

Someone got their Rendon mention out of the way early. After his oatmeal he will find time to mention Stassi.
When Rendon drives in winning run to put halos in WS all will be forgotten.

Upgrade the pen and catcher.
You trade for a catcher you have to DFA Wallach then O'Hoppe comes back what do you do with Thaiss? Thaiss is out of options so I'm not Okey with that

If you trade for a catcher now, wouldn’t it be the same deal? You’d likely have to DFA someone, and that might be Wallach, unless you want to carry 3 catchers for all of August….
Good point

And any injury to a catcher now means we have to DFA someone to add Oaky “or whatever his name is) to catch. The Angels can get away with Rengifo in the outfield. If they had to call up Fletcher and put him in the outfield they could. Trout coming back and being productive is a MUCH better bet than O’Hoppe coming back and returning to form.
Very unlikely you find a catcher on the market that would be productive. O'Hoppe, Thaiss and Wallach would be solid. You would just have to DFA Wallach and hope he is unclaimed. He has in the past.

I do not understand upgrade at catcher with O'Hoppe coming back. My view is only having 3 OF and who knows when Trout is coming back. Rengifo is 4th OF now. If any injury to Renfroe, Moniak or Grichuk halos in trouble.

A valid concern, but we just have to bridge the gap until Trout comes back. I think with Drury's return likely imminent, that frees up Rengifo to move around more. Given how good he has been offensively of late, he could start to see some time in the OF. It ultimately comes down to how long Trout is expected to be out, though.
I think Minasian gets another BP piece I would like Bard or even Lorenzen if he would work out of BP. Canning gets put on IL.

Has to be a BP piece

This is roughly my sentiment as well. I do think if Perry can find a legit backend reliever though, he could pull off a trade. If he does, then that reliever can take the spot of either Silseth or Soriano. Given how Silseth looked in his last two starts here, I'd probably want to keep him stretched out as a SP in AAA, so that he can sub in whenever needed.
As you have rightly pointed out, it would be shocking to see everyone return to health, but assuming we somehow do, this is the roster we are looking at offensively:
C - O'Hoppe, Thaiss, Wallach
IF - Cron, Drury, Rengifo, Neto, Moose, Rendon, Escobar
OF - Moniak, Trout, Grichuk, Renfroe
DH - Ohtani
I left off guys who would be clearly optioned if players start returning (Velazquez, Stefanic, Adell).
We'd probably DFA Wallach to create roster space for O'Hoppe, which would be an easy fix.
The roster crunch would be in the infield, but all that said, I suspect Rendon is probably out for the year, so that somewhat alleviates that roster crunch. I doubt Trout until at least towards the end of August.
But anyway, all that said - I think, as you said, our roster is likely full, with the exception of a reliever.
My concern is OF. If Trout does not come back until end of August using Moniak, Grichuk and Renfroe. Rengifo becomes 4th OF. Many do not like him in OF. Nothing on condition of Adell and Moniak due for a slump.
-
Perry do not trade any of halos young starters. Get a RH OF and BP help. OF help because do not know when Trout will be back. Moniak due for a slump.

I doubt either is re-signed. Perry's moves are rather consistent and telling - he seems to focus mainly on players who will be free agents in a year, or at most commits to 2 years, with a few exceptions along the way.
I suspect Schanuel will start off in the minors but it will likely be a short stay. I expect him to basically follow Neto's timeline.
Both Cron and Moose would be FA again after 24.

They moved Schanuel from low A to AA after 4 days. It took him two games to adapt. We are definitely seeing him compete for the job in Spring Training.
I think he will be like Neto and start season in minors. I would hope Moose and Cron are resigned.

BP better when Loup can get lefties out.
- tomsred and Angel Oracle
- 2
-
Nevin back in running for MOY and Perry for GMOY.
-
Food tastes better, beer taste better, it does not seem as hot outside when you team in race in August.
- Swordsman78 and Duren, Duren

-
Need another OF, only have 3 until Trout comes back. Moniak due for a down turn. Some RH bat, Perry will get it done.
-
Perry just do not trade any of these young staters.

Win or lose been fun to be in the mix going into August

Will anybody be left to be traded tomorrow?

Cubs made a deal

Does it not seem like so many trades before actual trade deadline this year. Usually most deals happen on last day but this year started early thanks to Perry Minasian. Soon as halos announced they are keeping Ohtani trades just started happening and it's been not stop. I think Dodgers will have to make a big splash soon. Can see one big move from halos coming. Have I mentioned that already?
