  1. I think he opts out after the 2nd year. But if indeed he has a similar 2021 (or close to it) as he did in 2020 and he's top 3-5 NL Cy Young....then you are probably right that he can go back into FA next year and get a 5+ year mega contract. It's a win-win situation for him really.
  2. He obviously wanted the Dodgers....he just had to wait them out....or maybe they waited him out. Either way, LAD+Bauer. Maybe the only reason to watch 2021 baseball is to see how much the Padres push the LAD.
  3. 100% -- bad roster management spending HUGE long-term dollars to a FA SS next year. It's not what we need. If anything, spend that money on SP/RP.
  4. Correct as usual Lou -- meant to say Upton. Ughhhh $28M in 2022.
  5. I love me some Detmer. But again, he hasn't even pitched in a real minor league game. Let's see how that goes before accepting he's ready to make 30+ starts next year and 150+ innings. The guy has pitched sparingly in simulated games + 22 college innings in 2020. He pitched 113, 28 & 56 innings in each of the prior three years at college. Hopefully he can get 100+ inning in this year to build up that arm strength. Let's say they have $60-70M available next year as you said. Signing 1-2 quality SPs + a top/young SS in FA + a closer + cheap C/bench/RPs. Good luck. We will sign 3-4 SPs like i said. Not all will be TOR guys. A couple will be Cobb (or less) like depth guys. But even they will cost $2-8M depending on the guy. Still we will need two VERY good guys like Bundy and another guy. Bundy alone is going to cost $20M+....unless he reverts to bad Bundy in which case you won't want him and need to find another guy.
  6. well if you suck at fishing...then you'll simply smell like worms. I guess that's the Angels this year hahaha. We came out of fishing FA smelling like worms -- not fish.
  7. This sounds like you are saying Heaney is our $4-6 guy next. But it's worded confusingly, so it's possible i misunderstood your point on Heaney. I guess you meant someone like Heaney (FA/trade acq).
  8. The problem is the team/organization was stuck between a rock & a hard place -- badly run organization for years (farm system, scouts, etc.) and having the best player in BB. They've tried to half way win and half way rebuild the past 4-5 years. Realistically, you can't do both. And that's exactly what's happened -- neither have succeeded. Best is the fully embrace the rebuild or go balls out (& hit bottom afterwards). Since we didn't do the latter, the farm rebuild is slooooow. At best we are hoping to get lucky with our few top guys & vets/youth and get on a playoff run one year. Otherwise, it's wait patiently for prospects to develop and be ready to make an impact. Likely not occurring in sufficient amount to make a serious impact until 2023+.
  9. Heaney is a FA after this year. Putting him down for #4-6 spot in 2022 is a little premature. Do you see the problem? We have one SP signed (Canning) and one huge SP question mark (Ohtani). People mention we will have more money to spend -- that's not as it appears. Sure lots of 2021 salary falls off. But even if you let all these guys go (Heaney included), and fill spots from within (3-4 SP spots, SS, C, RF, close, etc.)....2022 arbitration + Rendon/Trout raises eat into a lot of those savings. But really, just one good SP or SS 2022 FA acquisition will likely be it. Rest will be similar to the Cobbs/Fowlers.
  10. That's actually realistic and doable imo. It's likely their ceiling if everything goes well. I'd say 80-85 is their win range personally. As you said, as currently constructed because things can change with an important add or minus (injury).
  11. It's funny to me when fans know their team needs a certain FA and are all excited for them to pursue the guy to fill the spot. Then he signs elsewhere for a huge amount and they say" wow that's way too much and glad we passed; next year we can go after player X. This is what FA is. Elite players get ridiculous money. Even Trout, who wasn't even a FA, got crazy money. That's the downside of getting someone really good without trading prospects -- it cost a buttload of money and your likely to regret it at the back end. There is no get a top/elite FA on a team friendly contract movie happening. If you want to go fishing, you better be prepared to smell like fish afterwards.
  12. So you are ok having your #3-5 starting spots next year be Detmer (unproven), Sandoval & Barria/Suarez?!? I really like Detmer, but expecting him to be a #3 on a contending team without seeing any professional results and never having come close to pitch a full season is very optimistic. Your #4-5 for us (without BIG improvements from such guys) will put us in a bad spot. Title contending team needs to do better.
  13. It started off so good with the iglasias closer trade that was dang good. Some decent moves afterwards. Been really odd lately. Confused indeed
  14. I'm sure Chuck is a big boy and can take criticism and discussion. It's valid too. I run a business -- but people are encouraged to give their opinions and call me on things (ego stroking and butt kissing does nobody any good).
  15. He said if they were not in it. Why would you NOT try to trade your pending FAs at the deadline if you were out of the race?!? Lay off the guy. Read what he actually says rather than jump on his ars so quickly. I'm sure he wants to win too. But if we're toast at the deadline -- you sell the pieces that you are losing to FA (unless you can extend them or you don't get more than the comp pick for guys you plan to offer).
  16. I know you are likely somewhat joking here. But the Angels should be competitive with a shot to win the AL West due to A's/Astros coming down a bit. That's actually the truly disappointing thing -- the division is there for the taking. But it's same old thing of building the back end of rotation with guys who you hope will do better than the prior year horrible back end guys....and the rest of rotation stay healthy for once.....while waiting for farm to progress and be ML ready.
  17. i can't wait to "heart" the post that says: I'd rather have Cobb than Bauer at $$$/years
  18. Well it's been a long time coming for you Stradling -- but as they say...it's never to late. Takes a big man to admit his faults and i'm very proud you've done so. I truly look forward to seeing your improvements and reading such in your future replies/posts
  19. Me neither. But hey -- English comprehension is difficult for some.
  20. You need to take off your rose colored Angel fan glasses and come back to reality. It's ok if the Angels have question marks. You don't have to protect them like it's your little son/daughter. Just like our CF is the best in all of MLB while some other teams have question marks/issues. We are awesome at some positions (CF, 3B) and we have questions at others. That's why we have not had a winning record since 2015 (five years!). For SP -- it's an issue for us. Deal with it. Padres: i'm talking 2021. Clev/Lamet do not matter to them in 2021. If you think Snell/Darvish/Musgrove/Paddack/etc. is equivalent to the angels on any level than you are kidding yourself. They do not have question marks / injury concerns. LAD: who cares about Kershaw and the others. Those guys can all sit for 2021 and the LAD will have no problems SP wise. Again, you are comparing apples to Oranges. Also, putting May in there makes no sense. Sure he has yet to pitch 30+ start in the Majors, but that's not due to injuries or lack of talent.
  21. I think you meant to say "most" or "many". Teams like the Dodgers, Padres, Indians (just to name a few) might beg to disagree
  22. Counting on Heaney & Canning to be injury free and make 30+ starts each seems optimistic to me. Counting on 2021 Bundy to put up 2020 Bundy numbers also seems optimistic. His first 7 starts were great, but the next 4 dropped off quite a bit. Although, i am a believer in Bundy going forward. Not quite the Ace he was his first 7 starts inn 2020, but somewhere in-between that and his last 4 starts (a good #2).
  23. New LA Angels team motto: We're "decent" Pretty inspiring & exciting -- ready to re-up those season tix
