The Angels can probably get Darvish without giving up much in return if they take on his entire salary, especially if the Cubs are really looking to cut payroll as reports suggest.
Maybe the Angels can get Contreras and Darvish in a trade centered around Marsh? They’d obviously need to add way more, but it could be a start.
My dream offseason would be Darvish, Gray and Contreras. Not sure if any of this is too feasible, though (they probably won’t give them away without the Angels trading a lot of good prospects, at least).
Kluber, Contreras and Gray sounds nice, too.
He’s making league minimum, is under club control for many years, can play multiple positions, and is at worst a league average player (with room for more). Those guys are very valuable.
I’d prefer certainty tbh. But yeah, if Kluber pitches anything resembling the 2018 Kluber then it’d be a coup.
I doubt that Kluber will be the only addition they make for the rotation, though. Hopefully Eppler will look for some near certainty just incase.
If they’re going to trade Fletcher, I would hope it’d be for someone like Jon Gray instead (and I still wouldn’t trade Fletcher). Kluber is too risky (though the reward can be huge, obviously).
Darvish, Gray and a catcher? I think Eppler should seriously look into trading for Gray (cheap, groundballs galore, good K/BB numbers, etc. and would probably be way better away from Coors)
Yea...he'd be much better than a lot of the other options being mentioned. Plus he doesn't cost much, which will allow the Angels more flexibility to keep improving.
I would LOVE for the Angels to trade for Gray. He's not making much, gets a lot of groundballs, and has good strikeout/walk numbers.
I wonder what it would take to get him, though?
