  1. Yup, nearly identical other than BA. HR:15 ea/home and away, OPS .891 home and .869 away.
  2. 2016 and 2017 are gonna be painful at that salary!
  3. "Last year, he swung at 649 pitches that weren't in the strike zone -- over 100 more than anyone else. And he's chasing about the same percentage of non-strikes (37.5) that he has over the five seasons TruMedia has kept track (38.3)." Chasing pitches is nothing new, the success on said pitches is or lack thereof.
  4. Kudos to Robert for a thought provoking article...very similar to my thread a few days ago albeit to a different team (http://www.angelswin-forum.com/forums/topic/7050-should-the-angels-trade-scioscia-to-the-phils/). It's funny that Robert's was well received, yet mine was widely panned, at just the thought of trading our esteemed manager. I honestly like Robert's viewpoint, but just don't see it happening with cross town rivals.
  5. My idea in a trade would be to eat 4-5 million (basically knocks it down to 4 years for the team acquiring him), and get some low to mid level pitching prospect, or MLB ready bullpen arm. Not absurd trade value at all, IMO.
  6. I came up with no absurd trade value...those that did were obviously being sarcastic (i.e...Lee/utley). Again for the record: I do not want to see Scoscia go. Is a trade likely, NO, but not impossible either, it has happened before, and it usually involves high profile managers like Scoscia. AngelArcher is probably right here and it is more likely that they work out a settlement.
  7. Your making the assumption that the team is ready to move on in a different direction and that he is available...I don't think this is the case yet.
  8. I think some of you here underestimate just how valuable Scioscia is. He would be signed very quickly if allowed to leave. While I will admit that a trade is uncommon and unlikely, Scioscia is that rare manager that could be packaged in the right scenario. Despite some of the disdain and disgust with him from our fan base, he is highly regarded and respected within the game of baseball. A side note on Sandberg and his long term future with the Phils, from the press conference: "Amaro said Sandberg takes over on an interim basis and would be evaluated after the season. In his first game Friday night, the Phillies were shut out by the Dodgers, 4-0, dropping them to 53-68 overall and 5-20 since the All-Star break." Not exactly a ringing long term endorsement...
  9. Yes they do have Ryno, but there were no guarantees past this season for him to remain. He was announced as interim and this status has not changed. I think them along with many others would dump what they have to hire Scioscia. For the record I am not in favor of firing Scioscia, but would like to see something in return and not eat the remaining money if that is indeed the direction the club is headed. Scioscia is too much of a hot commodity to just release...
  10. Rumor has it the Phillies would be a good fit for Scioscia, so why not just trade him? If we release him we eat all that money, which he would likely get on the open market anyway...is it the years left that is the problem in a trade? Anyone care to elababorate on why a trade would or would not work???
  11. The Astros have scored as many runs as we have, I beg to differ.
  12. I was against the contract extension with Aybar, given that we had Segura coming up. Aybar has not shown enough consistency IMO to get that extension.
  13. I'd like to know who out there is available that would do a better job than MS?
  14. Yeah cause MLB knows the weather 6 months ahead of time. Ridiculous, cold weather should not exclude certain cities from hosting opening day. Let's just play ball!
  15. I think the vast majority on here felt a raise of 100K would not have broken anybody's bank, and would have been better received by all involved (fans, media, etc).
  16. Hard feelings and all that aside, the Halos could have given him 100-150K more and this would be a non-issue. It is an issue not b/c of fans, but because of previous precedents by other teams which the Angels chose not to follow. If you really think this does not sting Trout just a little, your wrong, IMO. Do I believe it will impact future negotiations? No. The Halos could have just given him the 15-20% raise above minimum and would have looked a lot better from a P.R. stanpoint. I think they dropped the ball here.
